Diner Reviews
  • "Ivy at the Shore was recommended by our hotel concierge when we requesteed suggestions for fine dining. IT IS NOT FINE DINING. The food was incredibly over-priced & over-cooked. It was just slopped on the plate. We brought guests and I was embarrassed. The only thing nice about the restaurant was the decor and the location, but what is that without good food?"

  • "Wonderful as usual...was just a little bit noisey!"

  • "We had a lovely brunch here at the Shore. I received a glass of champagne as I had made the Open Table reservation. They graciously brought me a small pitcher of orange juice to add to the glass. Food was very good as was the service."

  • "we went for brunch. i asked for an inside table for 7 and we were pushed together at a table for 6 w/a chair in the already crowded aisle. i was told the inside tables were reserved but i asked for an inside table when someone called to confirm the reservation. the food is always ok but never fabulous. fried chicken is dry. the view was great."

  • "First off, the person who confirmed with me over the phone told me (twice) my party would be greeted with champagne when we arrived. When we arrived, there wasn't a host or hostess in sight so a waiter approached us and asked if we had a reservation. No champagne. They proceeded to walk us outside on a very cold night and I halted on the way out the door and told him I spoke with the person on the phone and requested a table indoors and which she replied, "no problem." The waiter was so polite and understanding, he even made a couple of suggestions of restaurants for us in the area. The restaurant also needs to use SOME lighting. We (and everyone else) were trying to read our menus with the lit candles on the table. We left without eating."

  • "I had the brie cheeseburger with truffle fries. The fries were okay, but the burger did not have much flavor. I ate about 1/4 of the burger before I realized they never brought out the mayonnaise that was supposed to accompany it. Once I tried it with the mayonnaise it was a bit better, but I had to use a lot to get any flavor at all. The service was great aside from not getting the mayonnaise right away. The wicker chairs are not very comfortable either."

  • "4 for dinner on Saturday night @7:00. Seated promptly, great server, swordfish was delicious, shrimp tacos tasty, tuna starter fresh ,,spicy corn chowder had pow and lots of corn, but a bit runny. Tatrte tatin was out of this world. It starts to get crazy noisy by 8:15... But a great mix of people, not just young ones. My only issue..the bartender had no idea how to make a Mai tai. First try, no dark rum, both try's, no org eat syrup..and grapefruit jiuce should never be used!"

  • "Perfect for celebrating a special friends birthday. Love the vibe."

  • "The service was very good. She aimed to please us. Both crab cake appetizers, which are usually very good, contained shell fragments. So obviously the crab meat needs to be cleaned more thoroughly while in the kitchen. The scallops in an entree were not cooked to order. The kitchen crew needs to be more attentive in their duties. The dessert which was "The Ivy Sundae" was excellent."

  • "4 of us had brunch on Sunday. Love the outdoor room, the lobster tacos had just the right amount of fire, guacamole was great as were the crab cakes, and of course the red velvet cake is the best ever....however, a tiny ,bland Bloody Mary, for $15.95, is just wrong..."

  • "I used to live in LA in the 80s - 90s. This was our go-to place in Santa Monica. It is still as wonderful as ever. Superb cuisine and warm, delightful atmosphere. The food is a combination of "perfected" high end staples, sans anything snooty. Large portions, awesome cocktails, crisp and attentive waiters, sinful desserts. And right on the ocean with a $30 million dollar view! Thankfully, some things never change. Ahhhhhhhh."

  • "From it's once stellar reputation this place has sunk to new lows apparently only catering to out of town tourists with amazingly low service and food standards. This is one place our beautiful Santa Monica to avoid. The service started by wordlessly being escorted to a table on the patio, not even being asked patio or inside. The appetizer plate being offered as shared did not come with plates to share and was again just wordlessly plopped down. The entrees were appallingly tasteless, accompanied by a plate full of evenly tasteless vegetables . Service to order another glass of wine etc was not offered. The level of service being offered is way below the standard of the drink and menu prices being provided. Would not recommend."

  • "The Ivy is a lovely place to connect with friends (ours had just flown in from NYC and headed directly to lunch with us). The food is expensive and pretty average, but it was about the fellowship more so than the food in our case."

  • "The food is always very high quality. Really enjoyed the lobster Cobb and my friend had a delicious cod in a coconut light curry sauce. Desserts and capachinos delicious. Only complaint is that the service is too fast, seen this before too. Makes me nervous."

  • "The food, drinks & ambiance was great. Staff friendly & attentive. I tried a margarita that didn't meet my fancy & without a hesitation the waiter took it back for a different flavor. Deco is old & charming!"

  • "The Ivy at the Shore is a great spot. You'll always get a good meal, nice service and nice location. Not over the top, not overpriced and not overdone. It's just right. And as a native Southerner the fried chicken gets an A!"

  • "Diverse menu with California fusion vibe; servers are eperienced both in the business and at the restaurant, and they seem happy to be there; dining room has lots of natural light from the setting sun, often open air breeze; the high ceilings add to an open and spring-like dining experience. Wine list diverse, with notable gems."

  • "Had a few friends from out of town come in to LA and were staying in Santa Monica. I was always a fan of the Robertson location but wanted to try this one in Santa Monica. Food and service was beyond exceptional. I will be coming back to this location."

  • "Our party ordered a variety of dishes, including shrimp tacos, baked Branzino, crab filled lobster, fresh oysters, cocktails, dessert, and every dish was outstanding. Best menu in town. Every dish I have ever tasted has been a home run. Service efficient and a big shout out to the hostess at the door. A real sweetheart."

  • "Two years ago we spent Valentine's night here and it was wonderful. The food was delicious and service was great (the decor/location/ambience are always terrific). Last year, none of us (a party of five) liked our food; if I recall, I think one plate was incorrect, some were too spicy -- I don't think they were even advertised as such, and others were too bland. We tried again this year and, frankly, the food was mediocre even at half the price. The dishes were uninspired and pretty indistinguishable from other restaurants' fare. Plus they added tables so it was too crowded. It might be coincidence based on only annual visits, but we now consider this restaurant extremely over priced. For their sake, I hope we're alone in this regard."

  • "No problem getting a reservation on a busy Sunday night, I see why. Brutal indifferent waiter. Disappeared on us more than once, another waiter took over. Crab Cakes for an appie, 3 deep fried balls of mush, except for the piece of shell in mine. Slop of sauce on the side. I had the ribs, if I wanted a pound of fries I would have went to McDonalds, the ribs were completely overdressed with more sauce and some mystery vegetable on the side. My husband had the crab stuffed lobster ($52), same mush as in the crab cakes, the one piece of lobster he found was so rubbery it was inedible. We left most of our meals on the plate.. The wine list is nice and the room is very pretty. It was an unforgettable experience for all the wrong reasons."

  • "They were jamming people into the restaurant, it was very uncomfortable to sit so close to another table. We were on the pario a d instead of having 2 tables of 4 with an aisle in between, they pulled the tables apart to make tables of 2 with very little room in between tables. Waiters trying to squeeze through was very disturbing while we were eating, and sitting so close to the people next to us ruined our experience. We were seated first, and three times when they tried to seat people at these tables next to us, they complained that it was too crowded and wanted to sit elsewhere, but eventually people did sit at these tables because the restaurant was full. Ive gone to this restaurant many times but wouldn't go back because of this."
