  • "Amazing Northwest architecture, beautiful interior design. Can't beat the location for city views and fabulous boat/people watching. Great food, location, price and atmosphere. Can't go wrong at Ivar's!!!"

  • "What is better than wild-caught salmon cooked over a wood fire and enjoyed on the shores of Lake Union in a beautifully recreated Native American longhouse with a group of friends that date back 50++ years? For me, not much. After drinks on the dock, which I recommend (weather permitting,) we moved indoors. Throughout the evening, we laughed and savored beautifully prepared and served cuisine while gaping at incredible views of the Space Needle, the Tuesday evening Duck Doge sailboat race, and all sorts of marine traffic scooting back and forth over the sparkling summer water."

  • "The food here is the best in Seattle!!! The kitchen was backed up because the restaurant was so busy, but the staff made the wait extremely pleasurable. The food was definitely worth the wait. Not to mention the view was outstanding as well! I would recommend this restaurant to anyone either visiting Seattle or living there. Would even be a great place to hold a reception or other special event."

  • "Food and atmosphere was good. But the server might need to write down after order request. Lemon never brought to table after request. Salmon piece served was a little small."

  • "My 85-year old father was in town and wanted to eat great seafood with a view. We got a reservation at Ivar's and were given a great table in a lively spot with a view that was also quiet enough for Dad to hear our conversation - incredible that Ivar's can meet all goals! Great food, excellent waiter. Totally fun."

  • "I like the restaurant. but it's hard for me to afford it."
    Dined on 7/26/2014
  • "I came with a party of 10 (including 1 child) and it was easy to get a reservation, even on a weekend. Also, the food is fantastic and the service is very good, despite the restaurant being busy. The views are outstanding on a nice day. Highly recommended."

  • "My husband and I chose Ivars because we hadn't been there in years and wanted fish. SO noisy! Staff was nice but I couldn't figure out where outdoor dining was - what was the bar, if we could sit in outdoor dinning or what. We both ordered fish and chips - cod and halibut. Pretty good but overcooked and french fries weren't even very hot. I won't go back there for another 15 years."

  • "We have gone to Ivar's for many years and, although we weren't totally displeased, this was not or best experience. Our change in reservation was made smoothly, the hostess was very nice, our table location was wonderful and the view was exciting. Our server reached across the table to serve food, didn't keep the water glasses filled and brought us the bill without asking if we wanted dessert. We were celebrating our mother's 88th birthday and had mentioned it when making the reservation. Nothing was mentioned and when he brought the dessert menus he tossed them on the table and left. This didn't match the quality of service we have received in the past. The food was good but not exceptional. Seaplane taking off.....WOW!"

  • "Ivar's was recommended by a golfing buddy here in Fort Worth. We took him up on the recommendation, and we were pleasantly surprised. The salmon was grilled to perfection, our waiter (Martin) was super friendly and knowledgeable, the wine was great, and to top it off, we had a great view of the bay from our table...When we get back to Seattle, we will definitely head back to Ivar's."

  • "Our meal was fabulous, the décor very Northwestern, and the view was gorgeous. Delicious ahi tuna, crab cakes, and steak coupled with a gorgeous view of downtown Seattle made for a wonderful anniversary celebration. Our waiter was right on top of things and even gave us a burnt cream dessert "on the house." We would definitely dine at Ivar's Salmon House again."

  • "We sat at a table with a wonderful view. Our waiter was excellent. He patiently answered all questions about the menu. The food arrived quickly and was more than excellent. I had the king salmon special of the night. It was some of the best salmon I've had. They offer a reasonable kids menu. My 3 grandkids each ordered something different and they all liked what they ordered."

  • "Food is ok. Wish the hot food are a little more warm. Overall a little overpriced. I like the view and services are good. I might recommend to my friends."

  • "What a Last Memory to leave a Amazing City. Been a loyal customer for many years and I love bringing my OUT OF FRIENDS here. So they can have AMAZING Food and Lasting Memory. WE will back very soon."

  • "Perfect located - very good salmon! Worth to go to this Place!"

  • "My relatives from Atlanta really enjoyed it and I was pleasantly surprised by how good it was. My cousin said the salmon sampler needed more seasoning and perhaps some sauces. My alderwood smoked salmon with corn patties was very good and my drink was also tasty. Our cobbler dessert was yummy. The service was great and very attentive. I would go again even if I was not entertaining relatives from out of town."

  • "Horrible service. Waiter "dropped" dishes on table when he served. Filled water glasses, spilled the water/overfilled and saw it, and left water on table. He never came back to check on how food was or if we needed anything. Clearly poorly trained/not at level he should be for a mid-range restaurant at dinner time. Might not be his fault. I don't consider this a low end restaurant. I expected better for $150 tab for 4. Also, they did not seat me when I checked in & arrived on time for my table reservation. They/made me stand and wait almost 20 minutes while they seated everybody in line BEHIND me? Very weird."

  • "Service was not great but everything else was. Maitre'd was rude, I couldn't figure out why. We didn't get a waitress for 15 mins (which is a long time for lunch time), I asked the bus boy/water person to get us the waitress."

  • "Excellent food, wonderful views. Lovely creme brule for my mothers birthday. Thank you!"

  • "There are several good brunch places in Seattle. This gets my "favorite" vote because of the ambiance, the food selection (a huge variety of things I like to eat), the view, and the cheerful and helpful wait staff. Compared to Salty's on Alki, it is less "fancy" -- fewer flower arrangements and the decor is more rustic and reflective of native American traditions. Salty's might have more dessert options, but Ivar's Salmon House has more variety in fish, including (on my recent visit) fillets of salmon and cod, a couple of casserole-style offerings, a mixed shellfish dish, sushi rolls and even their own brilliant fish 'n chips. I also enjoyed a delicious custom-made crepes, right next to the custom omelette station."

  • "The brunch was excellent and vast in choices. We enjoyed being outside on a beautiful day!"

  • "Sunday brunch on the deck watching the boats go by. We always come in on our boat. Ivars has a new dock and it is top notch. But the brunch variety is what really makes the day. Super good standard brunch fare + their hallmark seafood specialties. You haven't had salmon until you have it salmon house."

  • "The view is outstanding and a good reason to visit this restaurant. Their Chinook King salmon is incredibly fresh. We also ordered Taste of the Northwest which is a sampling of fish that includes very tasty crab cakes. I was impressed by the great service in such a crowded restaurant; hostess, wait staff, and kitchen. The only drawback was the throngs of people coming and going at this popular restaurant. A window seat helps you forget you're dining with so many others. If you can get it, I recommend the corner window because you feel like you're sitting on the bow of a ship with an unobstructed view of the water."

  • "I took two Seattleites to Ivars for lunch as they had never visited there before. We all had excellent food and service. Waiter Chris was informed about the history of the white king salmon ( very interesting story) and was a great server. Both friends enjoyed the great outdoor dining and will return. The only suggestion would be to increase the size of the umbrellas or have them be adjustable to protect al of the guests at the table."

  • "Parking is an issue, allow time to find parking before your reservation. With free valet I would go more often"

  • "We are long time Seattle residents and have enjoyed the various Ivar's for more than 40 years. We celebrated my sisters birthday at the Salmon House on Tuesday. The food, ambiance and view were great as always. however, the service was mediocre at best. We had to ask our server (young man) for our first serving of bread to accompany our appetizer and sweetener for iced tea twice. He was not THAT busy, but the order was delivered by another waiter and we did not see him again until a lukewarm inquiry about dessert. He did ask about a second round of drinks for some and did bring the bill promptly. We decided to have our family photo taken by another guest at an adjoining table since he was not to be found!"

  • "A wonderful Seattle staple. Don't bother with the various walk ups, take the time for the sit down experience and enjoy the view across Lake Union. However, avoid the fish and chips, which were bland. Management was gracious enough to remove it from our bill...."

  • "We took out of state family here for lunch. Lynn was our server and she is the most amazing wait staff I've ever experienced. She knew it was a special occasion and she went all out!! The scenery is fantastic with boats, paddle boarders, kayaks and float planes coming and going. The genuine Native carvings and art are lovely as well. It's so nice that a "tourist" spot is also high quality food, service and respectful to the culture it celebrates."

  • "The building is spectacular and very true to Native American roots. Service was attentive and knowledgeable. The view...killer! The salmon was the star, perfectly cooked and so fresh. Everything was great."

  • "We were able to be seated at the corner table to enjoy the view and activity of the boating world. Waitress was most accommodating and we enjoyed our visit."

  • "We were told to get a table at the window. We had a table near the door with a view on the umbrellas on the Terrasse. The server forgot our food which was not any more hot when it arrived late at our table."

  • "This is a fabulous place to take out-of-town-guests. The view of Seattle's skyline simply cannot be beat. And watching the sail and power boats heading toward the Montlake Cut is very pleasant. I took my cousin who was visiting from Illinois here and her first comment was, ""Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore!" She was thrilled. The service was also wonderful and very accommodating. And our fish salads were great."

  • "If you can get a window seat or sit outside on the porch you have a nice view of Seattle and all shapes and size of boats passing by. Salmon always a good choice and cooked to perfection."
    Dined on 7/3/2014
  • "A simple measure of service is water. We had to ask for a refill. Steak was ordered rare, came medium (refired, alderwood cooked, tasty). Wide variety of alderwood cooked salmon. If the weather is suitable wait for outdoor table. Good for special occasions and a "Seattle experience" for tourists."

  • "As we expected, our dining experience at the Lake Union Ivars was good. The salmon was a bit overdone, but know it's difficult to turn perfect salmon out in a large restaurant."

  • "Upscale rustic with many lovely pieces of Northwest Indian art, Ivar's Salmon House is a fine place to take out-of-town guests for a special dinner. We had excellent service. As you might guess, they serve a lot of seafood--including, of course, salmon--supposedly prepared in traditional ways although the fanciness of the food inspires a bit of doubt about that. It's quite expensive, though. With gratuity, the bill for our party of seven came to $324.00--nearly $50 per person. Definitely a special-occasion splurge."

  • "Wish Ivar himself was still living. I could say to him "why don't you tune your guitar" just like my father did from the early 30's to 1975. A great living legacy to the memory of Ivar Haglund."
