The waiter -- a nice guy mind you -- was just a bit too friendly, referring to each of the three ladies at our table as "dear."
$30 per plate for some of the lunch specials is, in my view, far too expensive for lunch offerings. I personally order a $14.50 combo lunch of salmon caesar salad and a cup of chowder. With a glass of wine, it still ended up being a $25 lunch, considerably more expensive than had we sat in the bar. Bottom line, we'll probably stick to the bar area from now on.6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMIvar's Pier 54 - Sunday DinnerOur recent visit to Ivar's at Pier 54 was very good. We were there to celebrate my husband's birthday and our son being a finalist in a local singing competition. Our waiter was top notch! He processed all of our orders without one error, even remembering our special requests. Our food orders were really great and felt we received a good value for the $$. The portion size of my Shrimp and Chips was fantastic! My son is a vegetarian and really enjoyed the Portobello entree and its portion size was good as well. We requested a window seat and were seated in the west ocean facing room by the window. The window was open which made for a outside like dining experience! The Apple Crisp was delicious! Our most recent visit was typical: fresh seafood well prepared, good but not intrusive service, well prepared cocktails, and of course a great view of Elliott bay. We went there with friends from out of town, and were fortunate to be there during the brief Copper River salmon season. The view and location are hard to beat and Ivar's is a solid staple in Seattle. Evening was off to a rocky start as we were not seated until 20 minutes past our reservation time. Kind of defeats the purpose of a reservation at some point. Our server was excellent and effecient even though the restaurant was very busy. Food was good to very good depending upon the selection. Wine list was solid. They don't usually have brunch here anymore (Salmon House in the U-District has one every Sunday) but they decided to have one for Mothers Day. We come here for special occasions and bring out of town guests whenever they visit so they can experience wonderful Seattle seafood. We've always had great food, all the way down to the kids menu. I was very pleased to see grilled salmon on the kids menu because my toddler loves salmon! She devoured the whole thing and even had room for chocolate cake. Our requested window table was ready, our waitress was very attentive and pleasant. Our drinks arrived quickly. We ordered the prawn cocktail which I would suggest adding a 6th prawn to so its equal for sharing. We both had Boston clam chowder and the bacon wrapped fresh Alaskan halibut, which were out of this world! The baby yukon gold potatoes were ok
the asparagus was just perfect. I have a picky 8-year-old and an adventurous 5-year old, and they both found something they would like to eat with no trouble. All the food was excellent, as was the wine I ordered. Our server was attentive and service was quick, and when the manager came by to check on us, he even chatted for a bit with my kids. I also celebrate Ivar's birthday each year and try to get a group together to enjoy in the festivities. The service we received was very good. All of the main dishes were very good. However, our calamari appetizer lacked flavor and was a bit too soggy for my liking.
I enjoyed the cake pop bites this year as the cupcakes from last year were a bit messy. The decorations were perfect and it was a good experience.
We were there for a friend's retirement lunch (it just happened to be on Ivar's birthday). I was disappointed that although I left a note in my reservation, it was not acknowledged.
