  • "Visited for 22 year anniversary , somewhat disappointed in the food, expected better flavor, no salt provided at table which the meal lacked. Have had better food sadly at larger chain restaurants. I'm a foodie and know what flavors food should have"

  • "second time here.. first time was great everything we expected.. second time we were disappointed, our reservation was early they tried to set us under a tv (which really seems strange to see in this type of a restaurant) and the food was not up to par given the pricey menu."

  • "A really romantic night out. This dining experience started with a climb up the back stairs, into a hall and then into a dimly lit, cool and sexy room. We had a table by the windows overlooking Beale Street. The windows are tinted blue, which makes for a most interesting cool look out, even when its full sunlight outside. There is a bohemian/bluesy touch to the décor, with private rooms behind flowing draperies. Can't say enough about the atmosphere. The menu is tastefully understated, with some wonderful modern twists on basics. We had he crab soup, Jumbo Shrimp and Grits and Blackened Gulf Red Snapper. White Chocolate Bread Pudding and Vanilla Bean Crème Brulee for dessert. Every bite was fresh and delicious. The servers were friendly.."

  • "Great food on the strip in Memphis. The top floor of BB King's, you enter through a secret stairwell if entering through the club. The food was excellent, and the service was acceptable. We had a late dinner after driving up from Mississippi. Glad that OpenTable was able to book the reservation. It was a delicious meal."

  • "The music was too loud for comfort - too dominant, louder than background music should be. Ruby Wilson is an institution, and I would have enjoyed her renditions, except that we could not talk at our table, though we were across the room beneath the windows,"

  • "This place was great! You must try the bbq shrimp appetizer, my mouth is watering just as I type it is that good. The parm risotto was the best I have ever had. The piano player was wonderful. The sound level was perfect so that you could hear her amazing vocals yet still be able to have table conversation."

  • "Although the restaurant wasn't crowded, ruby Wilson continued to sing and the wait staff was great. Food was out of this world and all fabulous and cooked to perfection!"

  • "We always enjoy Itta Bena before attending the Orpheum and never have to worry about getting to the theatre on time!"

  • "This was a second visit for me- this time alone on a road trip. Got a late table, was well fed and we'll looked after. They made a weary traveller's day. Staff was superb. I really like this venue and will be back."

  • "This was only the second time I've been to Itta Bena but it will definitely not be my last. The food is outstanding with a wide array of choices in every menu category: appetizer, soup/salad, entree, and dessert. The atmosphere lends itself to good conversation which is surprising given its location right above B.B. King's. This is now one of the first places we suggest to locals and out-of-towners visiting us in downtown Memphis. I'm already looking forward to my next vist :)."

  • "We couldn't get reservations for BB King's Club downstairs and thought this would be an acceptable alternative. Wow! We are glad our original plans fell through. BB King's was so loud you couldn't hear yourself think. Upstairs from BB King's, Itta Bena has a jazz pianist, wonderful service and great food with a southern flavor. Shrimp and grits and blackened red snapper were delicious and the dessert drinks a perfect ending to the meal. Attentive, but not overbearing service made the meal a wonderful respite in a busy day. Will definitely return on our next visit to Memphis."

  • "The food was great and great choices. I thought the wine list was a liitle lean. Susan marshall was wonderful. Bought 2 cd's. I wish our table had been parallel with the windows instead of perpendicular so we both could have had a view. I woul definitely recommend it to every one."

  • "We celebrated our anniversary by making our first trip to the restaurant upstairs from B.B. King's Blues Club on Beale Street. We enjoyed the food and atmosphere and our waiter was very attentive. The pianist kept the vibe very mellow through our dinner and we were pleasantly surprised when the Queen of Beale Street Miss Ruby Wilson arrived. Her voice is as beautiful as when we first heard her on Beale Street 30 years ago."

  • "This is one of my favorite restaurants in Memphis. Great Southern food, wine, and staff!"

  • "It was our 14 anniversary - the host was great, nice. Our server was terrible; very slow and seemed preoccupied. She would ask us a question and begin walking away before we could answer her. We had only been there once before for drinks and I thought it would be great place to celebrate. We will probably go back but only for drinks - not for dinner. The food was amazing and the atmosphere is very cool. However, service is everything and can make or break a meal. Our service broke ours."

  • "Food and service was average at best - setting/location made up for other shortfalls"

  • "This was my second time to Itta Bena. Just like the first time it did not disappoint. The service was fast, the food was outstanding and the atmosphere was ideal for our girls night out. If I had anything to complain about it was the size of the drinks. They could have been a bit bigger. Other than that this place gets two thumbs up."

  • "Fun atmosphere of a prohibition club with good food and excellent service. Blues background music with live piano & singer, but the music was Background! You can carry on a pleasant conversation in a quiet and relaxed room. The she crab soup was quite good if not spectacular, but the blackened snapper was superb. My wife enjoyed a very nice fillet done just the way she likes it. Good wine selection and also good selection of single malt scotch. Desert for me was a cobbler that was very tasty and my wife had an excellent crème brule. Overall a worthwhile experience, highly recommended."

  • "We came in via 143 Beale and not the 2nd street stairs. It was fun finding our way to the "secret door" and hidden steps up to the restaurant. Seating was immediate even though my entire group had not yet arrived. Service was excellent. We ordered the scallops and grits as well as the fried green tomatoes as appetizers.--Excellent!! The chicken marsalla, shrimp, and other sea food dishes ordered by the group were again, excellent- as were the sides. The crab soup was amazing!!!! The entertainment was wonderful and allowed the group to talk (not shout) and catch up. We left via the 2nd street stairs but were told we could go back the way we cam e to listen to the music and not pay the cover charge for the club below."

  • "My husband had the t-bone steak- and said it was good. I had the shrimp and grits- and the shrimp was under cooked. Grandson had the jumbalya on penne- and he did not like it all."

  • "Itta Bena felt a bit like dining in a haunted house with its dark demeanor and red walls. The food was good but not terrific. Service was okay despite it being pretty empty. Not a place I would go to again."

  • "My husband dine at Itta Bena's for our special occasions and wecLOVE IT! The food is awesome and our server, Stephan, is the best. He remembers exactly how my husband likes his martini. This is, and always will be, a special venue for us! Terry & Jackie Reed Arlington, TN"

  • "Itta Bina is a great restaurant and doesn't need a lot of advertising to be full all the time! You can be part of the Beale street frenzy on a weekend night; but still have a quiet; well served; elegant and delicious dinner in the midst of it all. Enjoy the food, service, and atmosphere."

  • "Our dinner included the 'gathered field green salad', 'red snapper with andouille hash', 'salmon with rice and cream spinach', and the 'to die for' white chocolate bread pudding. The food was fresh, well seasoned, the fish was cooked perfectly, the vegetables were crisp and tasty. The acid, citrus, sweets, heat, all delicately balanced. The dinner bread melts in your mouth. It was our 21st wedding anniversary and the staff presented our bread pudding with "Happy Anniversary" in cursive along the edge of the plate. With a great wine selection it was a most wonderful meal. Also worth mention was the outstanding soft jazz and blues music from the fabulous Ruby Wilson. The entire experience was 'two thumbs up"; we will definitely be going back."

  • "It isn't heavily advertised but well worth it. Once you find it , you will love the outstanding quality and flavor of the food. The fillet is as tender as butter and nothing on the menu would disappoint. Highly recommend the she crab soup.. A class act as one would expect. Not the place to bring the kids to, but you could ( if you had to). ."

  • "A group of 5 ate here before a showing of Wicked. The food was amazing and well worth the price, also they have a long list of cocktails that all deserve a taste. Our server was polite, informative, and excellent at his job. The woodwork inside the old building is particularly beautiful and your view is of downtown Memphis. The live music was very good. I would recommend Itta Bena and would definitely revisit."

  • "We loved every moment of our experience at Itta Bena. From the moment we walked in, the service was excellent. The server was very friendly, told us all the specials, and just made us feel like her only customers. The food was delicious, from the fried avacado appetizer, to the beer bread, to the filet and lobster tail. It was a wonderful beginning to our trip to Memphis. We will go there again."

  • "I lived in Memphis a few years ago and sadly had never heard of this restaurant! We made plans for a night out this past Saturday and a friend suggested this restaurant. We had a wonderful experience and will definitely be returning in the future. The ambiance of the restaurant is perfect - great surroundings, lighting, and just the right level of dinner music. Our waitress was not overly friendly but her service was good. The food was delicious! I had the red snapper with the andouille hash which was so tasty! I would highly recommend this restaurant for any special occasion or just for a date night with your honey."

  • "We enjoyed a great dinner after seeing Wicked at The Orpheum. Great location for before or after meal if you are taking in a show. The food was outstanding with nice generous portions and reasonable pricing. Don't let the awning and staircase scare you away."
