The hostess let us choose our table- I greatly appreciate this. There are places that force one into a tiny side table even if the restaurant is empty. We started with the beet salad, which is delicious and plenty for sharing. I was delighted to find flounder on the specials- we rarely see this offering and it was a delectable preparation. A lovely bottle of wine and dessert completed our meal. Ithaki is a bit out of our way, but well worth the trip and is fast becoming a favorite place to dine.

One of our favorite restaurants, we dine here several times a year. Unfortunately this turned out to be a disappointing experience. our waiter was just not interested in serving us in a way that indicated he cared or really even was a waiter. The food was mostly good but the lamb skewer was grossly over cooked. The waiter wouldn't know this because he never showed up after the food was delivered and never asked when we finished. We will go back as this is the 1st time this has happened here, we'll chalk this one up to just a bad night - for now.

We enjoyed a smorgasbord of foods on our recent visit, from Greek salad to Makaronada (spaghetti and meat sauce), Moussaka and took home another favorite of Pastitsio as well. The food is always consistent, and this comes from someone of Greek descent. We always can't wait to return for Ithaki's top-quality fare.

We waited 30 minutes for our reservation. A couple who arrived after us for the same time reservation was seated before us. The staff did nothing to compensate us for our extended wait. My first choice for a glass of wine was not available as was my choice of entrée. The food was good, the service was okay, but not attentive. The dining room was a bit noisy.

Ithaki is our go-to neighborhood place, and our latest visit with two friends was as good as ever. The dining room is great for special occasions. The bar/cafe, which offers a simpler, less expensive menu, is good for every day. Their excellent Greek salad with grilled shrimp or lamb is a perfect little meal.

We visit Ithaki a few times a year for their great cooking. It was a relatively quiet night as a Nor'easter was battering the North Shore. Dinner was great and as we were finishing the main course, the power went out. The staff promptly tripled the table candles. A romantic ending to another great meal. We'll be back.

The grape leaves and lamb kebabs are great, but the shrimp was chewy and fishy tasting and the calamari chewy. The pasta cold in spots, very odd. Sticking with traditional seems best. Service was great though, and excellent pear-based cocktail!

My husband and I ate at Ithaki for the first time in years. We had heard they had updated the decor and changed the menu. We were very pleasantly surprised. The food is delicious. Not all of it is Greek. but there are still some Greek items on the menu. The wine list is a bit challenging since we weren't familiar with many of the wines, but we were happy with what we ordered. We'll go back.

Had dinner here last Friday night after a 6 and 1/2 hour drive from NYC. What a welcome landing! We had the fried oysters and Greek salad to start, followed by duck confit (appetizer), sauteed scallops (appetizer) and salmon. Every dish was very flavorful, balanced and well-thought out. Had an excellent bottle of Greek wine to complement the meal. Highly recommend!

  • Modern Greek But Classic, Too

Greek-owned restaurants tend to fall into 2 categories: the traditional family restaurant with paper map of Greece placemats or more upscale dining that features American style seafood and meat dishes with a Greek salad and a lamb dish thrown in. Ithaki is truly original, offering a menu that makes delicious use of traditional Greek ingredients in both classic and modern ways. My husband had braised lamb shanks prepared in classic style with orzo--a huge portion and fall-off-the-bone perfection. I (the Greek) chose the pasta special made with spinach, locaniko sausage, shrimp, and feta cream sauce. An amazing dish no yiayia ever served, yet all the best flavors of Greece together. Pleasant, attentive service, fresh & lovely decor. Perfect.

My girlfriend and her husband were coming out our way for dinner. Our friends were looking forward to a meal at Ithaki since their daughter had recommended the restaurant and my family had been there once before for lunch and it was delicious. We had not, however, been there for dinner. We were not disappointed. The meal was superb. I had the best filet mignon I've ever had and my dining companions could not say enough in regards to how...and I don't use this word lightly...scrumptious their meals were. The restaurant itself is lovely. The service is superb...our waitperson was friendly and helpful. He was there when needed but never hovered. I do believe we will have to make dining at Ithaki a tradition! Highest of marks.

I recently cashed in a Groupon for the Ithaki restaurant prior to going to a play in Newburyport. We had reservations but arrived a little late with no fuss from the staff. Service was quick and with just the right levels of friendliness and professionalism. Food was great, especially the Lamb Shanks with a perfect level of 'kick' added to the subtlety of lamb. Will be back even without Groupon.

Food was not authentic, service was terrible. I ordered a lamb shank and it was served on a bed of overcooked orzo and grease from lamb. Dish was not appealing to the eye. No color and no flare. Lamb was good but food pairings with dish did not compliment the lamb. Bread was poor quality.

We found this restaurant by searching as we drove up to Ipswich from Boston and were delighted to discover it. The food was farm fresh and carefully prepared, especially the heirloom tomato salad. The service was polite and prompt. I can't comment on the noise level of a usual dinner time because we were there early (and it was nice and quiet, which we like).

We recently had the realization that Ithaki is closer to home than we believed- so now plan to come often. There have been some menu changes over the years, but we can always find something that is delicious; my husband and I enjoy a bottle of wine with the meal and found many unfamiliar (to us) wines from which to choose. We arrived very early for our res., but were still seated right away; the staff is pleasant, helpful and we shall return soon.

The Sunday night that we visited Ithaki turned out to be wonderful! Much less hubbub and noise, the service and the menu selections were very fine, along with just right-sized portions. (Their Greek salad, though composed untraditionally, was a delight in terms of color, texture, and freshness). And it seems that the restaurant changes its menu with each season, so returning there later in the year may just bring another adventure in Mediterranean cooking!

17 years ago, we had the good fortune of eating at Ithaki the first week that they opened. We have been back quite often since. It is the perfect place to celebrate an important occasion or to entertain out-of-town guests. Each time that we've gone, we have been thoroughly happy with the quality of the food and the service. They continue to experiment with the menu, even though they have many years of success under their belts. They've never become complacent which makes every visit a new adventure. We have never had a disappointing meal there. The galacktoboureko dessert is not to be missed.

Our overall experience with a late-ish Sunday dinner was superb. We were welcomed warmly and seated immediately. My wife's cocktail was a vodka "Hot & Dirty" martini; she loved it. I don't drink alcohol, so I stuck with San Pellegrino. She began with cheese saganaki, which was flambéd at the table rather than roasted under a salamander, which was unusual but dramatic and effective. The cheese was perfect -- salty and slightly crusty and delicious. My stuffed grape leaves appetizer was excellent. We both had a lamb shank with orzo for our entrees. These were excellent and HUGE. (TWO lunches out of the take-homes!) The braised lamb just fell off the bone -- also excellent! She had fig mousse for dessert; we both had espresso. Great meal!

My husband and I went to Ithaci, for my birthday, but we found that it was not as good as it had been times before. We went about 8 months ago,as it is about 40 minutes away for us,so more a special occasion place to go! The martini was wonderful, and so was the salad and marinated olives. My husband"s lamb shank was cold, and fatty! The waitress heated it up,but seemed maybe annoyed that he complained.-so hot it was not very good.My roast chicken dish ,which I have had there before, was very dry, with no sauce or flavor on chicken! The wine my husband had was a choice ha made, but was a lousy pinot noir from France. Also, for $10,the glass of wine was skimpy! We will not go there again,as we have lots of better places closer to home!

My daughter treated me to a meal at Ithaki for my birthday. We anticipated it with excitement as all of our previous experiences here have been outstanding. For the most part this visit lived up to our expectations, but whoever plated my daughter's order of lamb on a skewer with rice pilaf and vegetables, squirted so much lemon on the asparagus topping the rice, that the rice was inedible. The other dishes were as excellent as we expected and the dessert, Galactabouriko (sp.?) was out of this galaxy!
