  • "Celebrated another special event at IP. Sister's first time there and she was very impressed. The day was clear and the views of the bay, downtown, North Island are unparalleled. We enjoyed watching the boats sail back and forth. Our service from Diego was friendly and professional. He anticipated our every need. We never felt rushed and food courses were perfectly spaced. The filet trios are always a hit with my family but we also enjoyed the ahi & crab cake starters along with the mixed green & chopped salad. Of course we had to sample the lobster bisque. The evening ended perfectly with a trio of sorbets, each of us loving the nuances whether it be the tequila & orange, or Ginger, or the Hibiscus and cayenne. Delightful meal! Thanx IP"

  • "The food is fine but not great. The shrimp cocktail is great bu the crusted ahi and prime rib are just ok. The view is lovely. There are better places to try first..."

  • "The food is incredible, no doubt. Its a bit pricy but you are paying for the location, ambiance, and quality of food. Definitely a great place to take a special someone if you do not mind spending at least $100 for two."

  • "Great view great drinks great food! Skip the Mac n cheese, always dry. Unless you drown it in sauce before it goes in the oven it'll always happen. Crabcake was forgettable (a drizzle of two sauces, while great, weren't enough) not a fan of backfin, lemon would've been appropriate also. Scallops and the trio were amazing. Dessert, perfect!"

  • "We were looking for a nice restaurant with great food and awesome view. We found it! Island Prime has great cocktails, their ahi appetizer was delicious. The filet was amazing as well as the crab legs. Service was great and the view of the bay was beautiful."

  • "What a perfect spot to impress my out of town guests and to celebrate a birthday! The ambience was perfect. They were so impressed with the view, the food was perfect and our service was outstanding. Our waiter, Diego was genuine, had a great attention to detail, made sure our water glasses were never half full, our beverages of choice were replenished and anything we needed was taken care of. We've often been to Chef Deborah Scott's restaurants and have had one superb meal after another. This was no different!"

  • "The location & view were fantastic. Our waiter was not the most attentive. The food was good. For the price I expected something special but it was typical for this price restaurant. So I would recommend it for a special occasion not your everyday restaurant."

  • "Amazing view over the water of downtown San Diego and our dining experience was made especially memorable by the amazing staff at Island Prime who went above and beyond. The portions (especially the sides) are quite generous so bring an appetite! We'll definitely be back."

  • "My husband and I truly enjoyed our evening at Island Prime. My husband ordered the special - cap steak on a bed of Kale with a croustini and thick bacon. The meat was perfectly prepared and delicious. I ordered the scallop dish - the presentation was beautiful and the meal was amazing. Only criticism is the ladies restroom was a mess - probably just the result of an extremely busy bar and C-level."

  • "We went w/ a party of 6 for a special occasion. Perfect view of San Diego. One of the best meals I've ever had. Perfectly cooked steaks & each side dish was over the top delicious. Worth every penny!"

  • "I went to Island Prime for dinner for the first time with my husband and father, & we had heard good things. We reserved a table & asked for a good view, which is why we went there. It is a first come, first serve basis for the window seats. We were sat as far away from the windows as you can get, & we saw an open table by the window. The prices are normal for a nice restaurant, but the food was only ok for the price. After a little while, our waiter appeared and gave us the electronic wine menu. He then left us alone, 20 mins or more, w/o offering any tips until we finally chose a bottle. There are other restaurants nearby w/ cheaper menus & better service as well as a good view that it's easier to get a table near to enjoy. Won't return."

  • "Price/food/wow factor falls just a little short. The food I had was very good, but just did not knock it out of the park for me. For instance, when I go to Indigo Grill, I am (was) wow-ed by the Trout dish. It is (was) incredible! (why is it not on the NEW menu??!!) On my recent visit to IP, I had the Macadamia nut encrusted Sea Bass. It was good, but it did not elicit the reaction I have when tasting IG's trout. (usually there is moaning and unintelligible uttering) My wife had the Plank Salmon. It was kind of mushy. (Maybe because she ordered it med/well, I don't know. The staff was A-1, very accommodating. We had the Trio Creme Brulee for dessert and it was very, very good."

  • "This was our first visit to Island Prime, although I attend a conference in San Diego every summer, and it was worth every penny. First off we were seated at a table that was about a quarter of a circle, which was very romantic in itself, but with a view that was breathtaking, we could see the San Diego skyline, the Coronado bridge, the Navy ships on the Coronado side, the bay. The wine list is on an iPad and is very extensive, including a great list of half bottles, we were able to start off with a nice champagne (yes it really was) with appetizers and a very nice french red with dinner. The food was perfect, the filet was the most tender I've ever experienced, and the flavor was exquisite, and the scallops were spot on. Go! NOW!"

  • "Wonderful location on the water. Service impeccable. Food not spectacular but certainly very good. Overdone pork chop with sugary coating with an equally sugary melange of onions/bacon. Seared Ahi nothing special but done correctly rare with nice black rice. Dinner with cocktails, one glass of wine and no dessert was $140. The more economical choice at the same location is to eat at the attached C-level restaurant particularly for lunch."

  • "The food, the service, the wine, the view was all wonderful as always. Bill, our waiter was very good as well as the rest of the staff. This is one of my favorite restaurants. They have the best Brussels too."

  • "I realize that everyone cannot sit by a window. I made the reservation far enough in advance that my request for a window could be honored but I was told that windows are on a first come first served basis. I have eaten here twice and always end up in the middle of the restaurant looking at a mirror. The food(large helpings), service, and wine were awesome."

  • "My wife and I we in San Diego on vacation, had heard terrific things about Island Prime. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening, service was fantastic, from the greeting at arrival through the entire meal. The food and the presentation were both extraordinary. The view of the bay was fabulous. We will definitely return on our next visit to the San Diego area."

  • "Had wonderful window seating with view of the bay, Coronado Island, and San Diego skyline. The staff are to be commended for service and attentiveness. Enrique, our waiter, was excellent. He was cordial, helpful, and attentive. Seemed like a well oiled team effort. Definitely consider this place for observance of special occasions and a place to show-off to friends and visitors."

  • "This was my husband's birthday and I had ordered a "small birthday cake". What was served was a disappointment. It consisted of a very small (muffin size) pound cake with a slice of pineapple and a birthday candle on the side. Otherwise the dinner was lovely and the service was impeccable. iPad type of wine list was a plus!"

  • "The service was exceptional, our server was very helpful and attentive. We found it very loud, but we are in our seventies and agitate easily. The food was to die for, our compliments to the Chef! Over all a pleasant experience."

  • "The meal and ambiance were good. The issue was the service. Besides being a bit inattentive, one of the waiters spilled a full glass of water on the table. My wife's skirt was completely soaked and I got a bit wet too. We did not make a big fuss, but everything was so wet that they had to come and change the tablecloth. I've been in these situations before. I think the right thing to do is at least comp a drink or offer something to show they are sorry for the mess they created. Not this restaurant. They charged full price for everything. We are not from here, but I would not recommend this place to others. There are too many other fine restaurants with good service in this town, especially at these prices!"

  • "Steak, lobster, brussel sprouts, (Cohn restaurants really know how to prepare sprouts !) potatoes, everything was really good. The only thing I would change..... the 'complimentary' dessert for our anniversary. Not sure what it was... bread pudding ?? Hard and no flavor."

  • "The food is good and the service is top notch. Only once or twice did we have reservation/request issues and they seem to have worked those out (or at least hope so) we love coming there. Thanks"

  • "Great view, great service, amazing food, nice ambience. They even picked up flowers for me to surprise my girlfriend with! Awesome! The only thing I was unhappy with was the lobster bisque, it came in a small bowl and that bowl was only about half full. It was gone pretty quickly. But other than that, the steak, lobster, oysters, mac n cheese, all top notch!"

  • "I was here 5 years ago with my girlfriend and we came back 5 years later and the food was just as amazing as we remembered! We sat in a booth the first time that we were there and kind of had a view but had to look over a couple of other tables. I asked for a table with a view the 2nd time and I was seated at what I thought was the best seat in the house, a corner table that looks out towards the Gaslamp district. I got there at around 715pm and the sun was still up. As we sat and enjoyed our Ahi tuna appetizer we slowly watched the sun set. We had our Prime rib and Lamb dinner, we stayed till it got dark and saw the city light up! Its always a amazing experience when I'm here. Cant wait to come back!"

  • "We have been coming here from out of town for the last 4 or 5 years. It used to be one of our favorites in San Diego. Saturday night, not so much so. The service was great even though our server needed assistance on almost any question we had. For example "Are all these steaks prime?" The chopped salad was so marginal it could have come out of a box. The same thing with the lobster bisque. The "prime" ribeye, the special was very choice in taste and over cooked to boot. We may have too find a new go to place when we visit in the future."

  • "We love this restaurant and take almost everyone who visits here, and they all love it too. We had to wait about 20 min for our waiter to take our order which was disappointing, but he was helping two very large tables and they took the whole time to place their orders so I understand, but I would expect the restaurant to be better staffed on a Saturday night to accommodate large tables and not leave others waiting. After my mom called that out, he was great and the rest of the dinner was wonderful!"

  • "We arrived about 90 minutes early for our reservation knowing that C-level has one of the best views in the city. We enjoyed the brie appetizer and some wine before going to Island Prime for dinner. They seated us on the window for both and we were able to enjoy the sunset lighting up the San Diego skyline along with the passing ships. My wife enjoyed the seared Ahi and I had the Filet. Both of us were very satisfied with both the quality and portion size of our food. The servers at both were terrific, unfortunately I cannot recall their names."
