A word from Island Breeze Luau at the King Kamehameha Hotel
Guests of the Island Breeze Luau will be amazed with a display of authentic Polynesian activities, cuisine, and performances.

Island Breeze Luau, located in right on the edge of the ocean of the King Kamehameha Hotel is rated the best lü'au on the Big Island by kama'äina (local residents)visitors and travel writers. The luau begins with a lei greeting and picture taking. An open bar, arts and crafts await you. The imu (traditional underground oven) ceremony, is also a part of the exciting beginning to your Island Breeze ohana (family). There are many ways to participate in the luau activities: weave a coconut frond, learn how to open a coconut, learn the art of hula, get a Polynesian tattoo, and take the time to meet and talk to some of the performers.

  • "On your first visit to Hawaii, a Luau is a must. We found the food was very good and plentiful, and the entertainment was impressive. Certainly an enjoyable way to spend an evening. The staff were very friendly. The only disappointment was that we ordered a vegetarian meal for one of our party, and although it was very good, it came too late when everyone was done eating. She didn't go hungry however, as there were plenty of salads on the buffet."

  • "There should be a reduced rate for patrons that choose not to partake in alcoholic beverages."

  • "The show was okay and the food was good. I think we saw an amateur show when we attended. Third luau on the islands this ague third."

  • "Enjoyed the evening and the venue did an excellent job to counter the fact we had the dinner and show inside due to rain. The food was delicious and the show was outstanding and even included a demonstration of how to open a coconut. The dance choreography was top notch and the fire dancer at the end was spectacular. Overall a very fun evening."

  • "I've been to a couple of Luaus before and this one is not bad. It is a little cliche at times but is a fun experience worth attending. Could be a little more traditional, but is interesting to see coverage of the main Polynesian groups. I give it a 4 out of 5... they work hard to bring "the experience" to you :)"
    Dined on 6/3/2014
  • "Apparently, they often move the meal and show indoors to a conference room for fear of rain. As a result it didn't feel much like a luau and you don't get to see them take the pig out. Food was great. If I was looking for the experience, I would have been disappointed."

  • "Drinks were served two hours before food. The food had been sitting out for hours before anyone was served. The food was so-so. The dancers were great though. "

  • "The dancing and music were above expectations and truly entertaining."

  • "Sadly this luau was a disappointment -black mildewy gunk on the juice plastic jar -wouldn't let my son drink any/plastic cheap glasses/worn dinnerware/not on the water as advertised as the stage blocked the entire view/only good item was the Kailua pig-the rest of the meal was mediocre at best! There are better spots on the Big Island "

  • "If you go to one Luau, make this one your choice. Food was good, the show was great and the activities beforehand were awesome!"

  • "Great experience ! The one thing I would recommend to them is , the open bar needs work .. The drinks were too sweet ! The show was very enjoyable , the food delicious !"

  • "Very well orchestrated. Food was very good and plenty of it. Loved the entertainment...The dancers seemed to be enjoying themselves as much as the audience."
    Dined on 3/20/2014
  • "Great Luau, for the money. Packed, but the show is great, and the dinner lines move quickly. The "activities" seem to be only for those that paid extra for "preferred seating." All of the seats are fine for the show, and you can watch the hula lessons, etc, without paying the extra fee. If you have food allergies, let the food manager know; he is very helpful, and knowledgeable about the food."

  • "My family of eight went for our luau. Many different ones to choose from. This was close and more research reasonably priced. Had great time. Food was better than expected. Good bar. (Free mai tais) Great show Recommend to anyone"

  • "Food was good (not great) and the lu'au was fun. Drinks were included but weren't very strong and ended well before the show was over."

  • "This luau was recommended to us by a local. This was our first luau but mother in law had been to another one and she said the other one paled in comparison to this one. The show was fantastic, the food was great. We had a wonderful time. The only down side was during the activities that happed prior to the show, they made fish out of hala leaves (?) and it filled up so quickly, my daughter didn't get a chance to participate and was really disappointed. We wish they could have done it again. I guess that's a sign that it was popular and people enjoyed it! The activities were fun and the food was very good. I would recommend this to others!"

  • "Perfect setting on peninsula of historic King Kamehameha home. Entertainment was outstanding! Seating was a little crowded but didn't deter from our enjoyment. Food was plentiful and delicious. Wild definitely recommend for a great luau experience!"

  • "This is a luau prepared especially for tourists. The setting is beautiful and the entertainment is high quality. The MC of the show is especially good, adding lots of tidbits of local history and culture. The food is hotel, island food, nothing special. But the whole experience is worth an evening, especially if you have kids and don't mind spending a little money."

  • "This was our 3rd luau in the Islands and was the best overall, so far! Great entertainment--not too long or short, awesome food, music, and Mai tais!!! We'd go again!"

  • "The luau was entertaining and the food was delicious! Really enjoyed the host, the dancers, and the musicians. The dances from different cultures of the Pacific were wonderful. Really enjoyed all of it!"

  • "Overall I thought it was great, especially the Polynesian show with all those great costumes and dances from each island. The women were all attractive and the musicians talented. The food was good, and it was my first taste of Poi, my first Mai Tai, and first time I saw an underground oven. Even though I'm a pescovegetarian (fish eating vegetarian), I only had to avoid the pig and chicken. The whole show and dinner was well worth it. I just hope the guy who did the fire show never gets singed. It's just one more good reason to move here from the mainland."

  • "Do not go to this luau if you want to be able to experience a TRUE luau up close and personal. The staff were rude and unhelpful. My mother traveled 4,000 miles for this & wasn't allowed to stand up in the back to see or take pictures. The show itself was wonderful, but after it turned dark, there weren't enough lights on the tables to see what you were eating."
    Dined on 10/17/2013
  • "Well worth the money. Family friendly, good food and entertainment."

  • "Island Breeze Luau offers a glimpse of paradise to those who wish to sit by the Pacific Ocean and watch a colorful show of historic costumes and dances of the Polynesian peoples who contributed to ancient Hawaiian cultures. The master of ceremonies was upbeat, the musicians skilled and the dancers were energetic. The buffet offered flavorful food for a variety of palates and the service was thoughtful. Spirits were not dampened by the gentle rainfall, as staff people provided fresh towels for all of the diners, as needed. Our family's glimpse of paradise was authentic, entertaining and memorable."

  • "It was wonderful, I have been to many others and this was the best! I was a little upset as I am disabled and our party was seated first we were not offered a photographic memory of our visit as the other able bodies guests were offered. That should be rectified for others who attend and are seated first, I was disappointed, as my daughter and grandson and I spent a week on Hawaii and that would have been our only together photo and we did not get one."

  • "this is a great thing to do while on the Big Island. everything was great, from the performance, to the service, to the attitude - especially the attitude!!! they really take their work seriously and with pride. some of the food is different (poi for instance) so don't be afraid to try new things - it's all quite good. although i have to say that although the pork was incredibly juicy and tender, it was very, very smoked :) if you like that great. i am not much of a smoked meat person so it wasnt the greatest in the world. but the veggies, other meats, desserts, etc. were all solid. best of all were the performances. absolutely amazingly genuine."

  • "This luau made a great ending to a second honeymoon in Hawaii. The Polynesian show was absolutely fantastic. We really enjoyed the professional quality show with a live band and great dancers. The meal was nice but basic. Food was generally overcooked from having sat too long; perhaps they could figure out a way to serve the food that keeps it more fresh. On the whole, a lovely experience."

  • "The entertainment was good. Meat selection could be better. Chicken was all dark meat and teriyaki beef was inedible...all fat! Pork was good."
    Dined on 8/22/2013
  • "You don't go here for the food, which is perfectly fine, but for the entertainment and for taking first time guests to a "luau." The Island Breeze staff is friendly and personable, the luau is well organized. If you are taking kids, go early. There are lots of fun activities for kids before the luau gets started."

  • "Great experience for the whole family. Food was great, entertainment was interactive and the setting was perfect!"
    Dined on 8/15/2013
  • "I'd have no issue paying $50/pp for the show portion of this luau. The performers were talented and entertaining. However, I cannot recommend the experience given the poor quality of the food and alcohol and the huge amount of waiting around that is part of the evening. The food was plentiful but not tasty and not healthy. A reservation for a vegetarian entree was not honored. Teenagers pay the same as adults despite the fact that they can't drink. No fruit juice was available. The fruit punch was sugar water that tasted like camp bug juice. The evening begins with waiting in a line for 20 minutes to get a group picture taken that costs $20. There was also about a 20 minute wait to get in another line for the buffet."

  • "If your in Hawaii u need to go to at least one luau. This checks the box. The dancing and entertainment is good. They could us a better sound system so you could understand and comprehend what is being announced...but the food is very disappointing and slow.......long buffet lines...all you can eat hospitality becomes long and longer lines for the picked over remains....."
