Diner Reviews
  • "This used to be my favorite restaurant but it has really gone downhill. We brought guests recently and were embarassed. They didn't get the drink orders right, couldn't keep straight which of us ordered what, and the food was terrible. The lettuce in the salad was not fresh and all the meals were served stone cold. Even the menu itself was not very appealing. Will never go back. It is too bad because it used to be good and the atmosphere is nice. The restaurant was empty when we were there so my guess is that others agree that it is no longer what it was."

  • "Sorry we did not dine here sooner. If you want grilled octopus with chrozio sausage and crispy fried baby artichokes, farro with wild mushrooms, local bison, or even a hamburger, they prepare everything with perfection and beauty. The menu changes with what is fresh and best that day. The service is knowledgeable, friendly and professional. The chef even came out to thank me when I praised the octopus preparation. We will be back and soon. Lovely place."

  • "Food good but overpriced. Portions not big at all. Very noisy."

  • "Three couples on a weekend getaway and Isa's Bisrto started our weekend out perfectly! The food and the service were wonderful! We will be back next trip!"

  • "We just returned from our visit to Asheville. We were staying at the Haywood Hotel and enjoyed a delicious lunch and dinner at Isa's Bistro. The food was all served nicely and everything was fresh and delicious!!"

  • "One of my favorite spots in Asheville. Very convenient to parking-- great service and delicious food. I'll be back!"

  • "We used to really enjoy this restaurant. I don't know what happened?! Same menu, but poor execution. Octopus was dry, quinoa was soggy, some of the food was over salted. Maybe the chef was on vacation, but it was very disappointing compared to the level they were at a year ago."

  • "Tuesday evening is a great night to go here especially during the summer. Relaxed atmosphere and a great place to people watch."

  • "Conducted a business lunch and it was a very good experience. Oyster salad was also very good. Thanks!"

  • "I love this restaurant, but ordered a strawberry salad advertised as greens with strawberries and bacon bits with strawberry vinaigrette. I could taste nothing but the overwhelming smoky and slightly off taste of bacon. It was awful. The mussels were very good and the lemon tart was excellent. Everyone else loved their meals. I hope the chef fixes the salad!"

  • "We always enjoy the food and drink at Isa's. Also, service is excellent"

  • "First time dining at Isa's, chosen based on reviews and convenient location. We had great food, the server was professional and well trained on the menu and knew the beers and wines as well. It was a pleasant evening so we sat outside. This could be a bit loud when there are lots of tourists in town, but it was fine for a Monday night. There is abundant inside seating as well. There are lots of restaurant choices in Asheville, but I'd eat here again."

  • "Our meals were very good and everyone loved the bang bang cauliflower. Service was on the slow side and the street noise was quite loud the night we dined. The main dining room looked very nice and would dine inside the next time."

  • "Great food, a bit pricey for the portion size but what they lack in size they make up in flavor."

  • "My husband and I love this restaurant for lunch. We work downtown so it is convenient and the food is generally good. The complaints we have are: they are never really ready to open at 11:30. Some things are inconsistent. For example, the aioli is never prepared the same way twice, and they change menu items that are delicious and unique (farm bean salad) for other items that are just plain weird. And don't even think about getting dessert. It's not worth the price. On the other hand, the main menu items are really delicious, well prepared and consistently good. Their use of kimchi as a garnish for sandwiches is brilliant. The wine list is nice too. Definitely worth trying. They are still pretty new so maybe they will work it out."

  • "Wonderful spot for having lunch, great people watching"

  • "We sat outside so I cannot tell you how the inside atmosphere is like but we had an awesome experience. I had the duck and it was wonderful. My husband got a salad with the mussels (starter). Both were excellent. I would highly recommend dining here. If you want a quieter experience, sit inside. There is no smoking in the sidewalk table seating but there is smoking just over the railing so that might ruin an otherwise perfect evening."

  • "Second visit to restaurant.....something's changed as the service was slow, food mediocre. , Probably will not go back "

  • "Loved eating lunch outside listening to local music!"

  • "We had dinner at Isa's with my husband's cousins from out of town. We rarely get to visit, so we chose Isa'a because we knew that the atmosphere was relaxed and friendly, we could still see Asheville activity beyond the windows, but we knew we could hear each others' conversation, which is NOT the case in so many downtown restaurants. My duck breast was perfect, the cousins' lamb was delicious, my husband's mahi tender. The service was excellent and subdued -- the wait staff could tell we were enjoying each other's company, so they watched and did not interfere with conversation. The pinot noir was particularly good, too. WE WILL BE BACK!"

  • "This restaurant is rapidly taking its place as one of Asheville's better restaurant....great food, wonderful drinks, chic ambiance, and perhaps the best trained waiters and waitresses in the city. "

  • "Isa's Bistro was fantastic! The food, service, and atmosphere were all outstanding! We will definitely be back!"

  • "We've eaten here twice and loved all drinks, apps, entrees and desert both times. Highly recommended and easier to get into (for now) than places of comparable food quality that have been around awhile, just in case you forgot to make reservations. The wine list is solid, and the setting with windows onto a busy pedestrian area is pleasant. Our only complaint is that the service is not quite up to the level of the food (the service is okay, just not great); fortunately the manager seems to be working on that."

  • "Beautiful place & great service. The bacon gougeres (one of the reasons we went there) were so dry they were difficult to eat. The charcuterie plate was outstanding (and enough for 3 or 4). The duck was very good, but the risotto that accompanied it was off the charts. Except for a hint of smokiness, we didn't detect any truffles or foie gras, but the plentiful strips of duck confit made it. The wine list is much better than what is shown on their website. "

  • "One of the two best restaurants in Asheville. A must for both residents and tourists. Great food; great service. We will definitely be returning in the very near future."
    Dined on 5/10/2014
  • "Granted, the restaurant was crowded with the pre-orchestra crowd, but we still had an extraordinary long wait between our drink order and the entree. The food was delicious. The service was good, but no one really went out of their way (e.g., offering more breadsticks). Conveniently locked in the Haywood Park Hotel."

  • "The monkfish dish was delicious. Would have liked a bit more veggies on the side for the $28 cost."

  • "We chose to eat outside but they were doing road repair work and jackhammers were loud! The food was excellent anyway. "

  • "We had a fantastic dinner, loved each course from appetizers; bison brisket, bang bang cauliflower, oysters and gougeres to entrees of coastal catch, gnudi, burger and shrimp dish, all were spot on. Can't miss the desserts here either, best in town, especially the Lemon tart, very refreshing lights way to finish a fantastic meal. "

  • "We went Isa's Bistro for out 30th wedding anniversary, and had a wonderful meal. I told our server (I think her name was Rebecca) that I can't consume any type of dairy product, she went out of her way to make sure that what I order would not contain dairy products. Despite the lack of some of the ingredients my meal still turned out great."

  • "The Burgundy Room in the cellar was perfect to have our business team meeting in a private setting. The food and drinks were fabulous. Service was well-timed and friendly. Everyone enjoyed themselves. "

  • "Rebecca gave great service at the bar to my wife and I during our meal - even with a full bar of patrons! It's nice to get decent service downtown for a change. Bobby, the manager came by to ensure satisfaction and had a nice conversation with him about golf courses in the area. The wine list was nice, be sure to ask about off list options... Will recommend to anyone."

  • "Even though I live in Asheville, this was my first visit since it became Isa's Bistro. Four of us attended for a business lunch. My guests were most complimentary about the food, especially the Rissoto. My only complaint was that at one point the music was so loud that it was hard to hear each other. I asked a waitress to have the music turned down , which she did, and then it was a pleasant environment. I think the Valet service is a well-kept secret! (A wonderful service considering the parking problems in downtown Asheville.) I will definitely attend again, whether for business or pleasure."

  • "Met with a group of friends from PA/NC/GA. Its in a good location downtown as you are within walking distance to downtown night life/scene after eating. The food is a little pricey but there are a lot of different items you definitely won't see on a menu at a chain. (Some items we had to Google to find out what they were!!) Everyone was pleased with their meals, would recommend the lamb and scallop dishes. For starters try the bang bang Cauliflower. Service was friendly and competent. Valet parking!"

  • "The past two times I've been, the service has been terrible. The food is good and I like the venue. I very much wish the service would improve. The staff have no sense of urgency and do not seem concerned with our overall experience. "
