They really pull out all the stops to make it a special occasion for their guests. Great place for a romantic evening. We went for our wedding anniversary, and it was lovely. It's a Prix Fixe menu, and we really enjoyed the food, as well as the service. The view doesn't need a review! Reasonable portions so that you could actually eat it all and be comfortably full. We sat at a table in the bar area, you can't miss a "fantastic view" anywhere in the restaurant, however next time, we will definitely make sure to sit upstairs ... even better!
The proprietor, George, introduced himself and we had a nice chat ... clearly he cares about your experience! It was a seven course meal. We were lucky enough to be seated by the window with an outstanding view. We started with an amuse bouche of vichyssoise. Good not remarkable. Next was the appetizer course with a choice from four. We had the fois gras terrine & the scallop. Scallop was good but the fois gras was outstanding, best I ever had. Fish course next , we had the lobster and halibut. Lobster was good and pea and marscapone risotto was even better. The halibut was simply outstanding. Green tea sorbet was good. we had lamb and duck breast for the meat course. Sweetbreads were exquisite. It seats 28 upstairs, and probably about half that downstairs. There is not a bad seat in the place! Often, restaurants that have amazing views from Mt Washington have less-than-amazing food. Thankfully, Isabela's is the exception. Chef's tasting menu had a great balance. My husband had the cobia, and he was still talking about it a few days later. The service is truly exceptional, and George, the owner, is to be commended on how he makes you feel at home. Seated at 5:00PM on a Saturday, we pretty much had the place to ourselves for almost a half hour before it started filling. They offered a prix fixe menu with plenty of options. We eat out fairly often, and this was our third Grandview Restaraunt to dine at. Simply put, this was THE BEST dining experience we've had in the three years we've lived in Pittsburgh. The view, the food, the pace of the meal, the Wait Staff...all superb! While some may be "put off" by the appearance of the building (it does look like a neighbrohood bar from the outside), if your priority is an exceptional dining experience with a great view, this is the place.2/23/2013 12:00:00 AMMemorable Evening All AroundI chose Isabela on the Grandview for my boyfriend & I for our first Valentine's Day together celebration and his first visit to Pittsburgh. The owner was very warm and friendly upon entering the restaurant and he seated us as well. We were given a table at the window so the view was amazing. The photo was a nice touch and turned out great, so it's nice to have a momento from the evening. The food was fantastic, each course was delicious and you were given just enough time between each course, we did not feel as if we were waiting forever to get the next tasting. We both ordered from the prix fixe menu and were very impressed with the meal. The food was great and the service was well-timed. We both really enjoyed the cobia and my personal favorite was the smoked duck breast.
