Food was good and the place is
great if you like to people watch. That is about it. Although we all enjoyed our food, none of us felt full after the meal. In fact we ended going to another place later. The service was really bad. Server ran into my wife and my friend when walking past the table without even saying sorry. We waited for menus, drinks, for the server to take our order, and for the food for much longer then needed. If they were really busy I understand but they were only half full. Once again the good was great even though it was small but you can't really enjoy it when you don't have utensils to eat it with. All in all we will not be going back and could not recommend this to other people."

Isabel Pearl keeps the menu and
décor simple, but the food is interesting, creative, and good. Worth a try for sure."

My friend eats out in Portland a
lot, so when I decided to take her to Isabel Pearl for her birthday - a place neither of us had been - I worried whether or not it would be good. No need to worry - we both enjoyed our food, lots! She had the 3-course meal with the salad, the grouper, and the flourless chocolate cake. I had the chicken soup (yum), the lettuce wraps (good) and the carnitas bowl. She loved her food, especially the salad (goat cheese and beets among other ingredients). I enjoyed my food but it was too much. I should have just had the soup and the carnitas bowl. The flourless cake was so good I took a piece home for my husband. We followed up with a trip to Portland Center Stage just down the street. Would go again."

My bf and I went here for our
valentines day dinner/anniversary dinner and was amazed by the food and the amazing price. We loved it and it def reminded him of Spain and hopes to go back this summer."

My husband and I used a prepaid
voucher. I had the Brazil bowl ($14): black beans and brown rice with mango and chicken, with a spicy salsa, a mild/sweet salsa, and a pair of small plantain patties. The bowl was tasty and the portion size good but I expected better for the price: Without the mango, a similar bowl can be purchased elsewhere for half as much. My husband had the Latin steak frites ($20), a flat-iron steak, a large pile of plantain fries, and a huge pile of kale and a bit of broccoli, with a bland sauce. He told me the steak was wonderful and the plantain fries were very good. The kale was under-steamed. The service was excellent; decent beer selection but only 4 taps. Ambience was utilitarian with tables fairly close together."

Interesting menu - varied and
healthy. A wonderful spot for lunch. I loved the Thai beef salad I had. The beef was tender and not over cooked. The ginger mimosa was fabulous! I would definitely go back"

I had these the 1st time I ever
went to Isabel & they bring me back each time. Great restaurant with it's own flair!"
Dined on 1/1/2014
The "bowls" on the menu are
similar in flavor to Yum Yum Cafe, but ingredients are preselected. Our meal was good, but don't think I will make the trip from Vancouver to go there again."

Great place to meet friends..right
in the Pearl, easy for everyone to drop into. Food was great for all.....even the special people theat need to not be adventures in their food choices. Waitress was great, if she wasn't sure about something she found out what was in the item or if that liqour was available and even came back with what choices the bar or kitchen did have. Food was great, place was busy but the waitress made us feel like she was happy to have us as her customers ...not rushing us out."

Kind of an odd mix on the menu but
what we had was well prepared. Good food at a good price. Nice place to go before a play at Portland Center Stage. We will definitely go again."

We enjoyed the varied menu with
fish, meat, and vegan options. The drinks were great, the food was great, and the service was very good. Thanks for making my wife's group birthday dinner comfortable and a success. One thing to note, we had a fairly quiet environment for our dinner, but if the restaurant had been packed, it might have seemed harder to interact in a large group."

I have been to Isabel's many
times, and it's always the same story. I love their food, their drinks are yummy, but the service is never great. Our server was really nice but seemed a bit lost and couldn't answer some basic questions about the menu or offer non-alcoholic options for a "mocktail" for one of our party. When our food arrived, mine was not piping hot, but that didn't stop me from finishing every last morsel (the flat iron steak with greens and plantain fries). They did comp us a dessert for my friend's birthday and give us a free sample spicy margarita. This is why I keep coming back: the food is delicious, the lackluster service is always offset by nice surprises, and you can always get a table without a wait."

It was more boisterous than a
Sports Bar in here and there was no regard for personal space from the other patrons. I was bumped by the same woman who did not excuse herself or apologize. How this more upperscale Hispanic influenced restaurant developed this type of patronage I'll never know. The food truthfully was "ok" at best. I was certainly expecting more (at least from my main entree. My soup (daily special of a Chipotle Salmon Chowder was pretty divine...however the Buddha Bowl was another story. I felt the flavors although sounding great on paper displayed flavors that were too muddled. The Painted Hills Steak was great, but that's about it. The noise gave me a headache and made me wish I had chosen an outside table."

A fun place for great food and
drinks. Service was outstanding!"

I selected this restaurant on a
recent trip to Portland based on reviews. I was very disappointed. The food was OK but quite run of the mill. It felt more like a lunch than a dinner venue. We ate carnitas on fried plantain for appetizer which was the high point of the meal. The main courses were acceptable food but very ordinary and the supposed mix of cultures represented in the cuisine didn't work at all - nothing was unusual or unique enough to make it good. It just felt like they were trying to keep two different audiences sort of happy. I won't return."
Dined on 10/12/2013
Have eaten brunch here many times
over the last two years, and had a great time every time. The food is very well prepared and delicious, the service very attentive. The specialty mimosas are the best!"
Dined on 10/7/2013
the food at this place was amazing
- loved the happy hour tacos and the butternut salmon soup. Cuisine in general looked absolutely amazing. The service was ok, a bit snooty. The place is a bit small for large groups, but having reservation helped."
Dined on 10/5/2013
On a cold cloudy evening the
ambience was lacking. Entrees were good - appetizers so so."
Dined on 9/25/2013
Been here for lunch on a bright,
sunny day AND a dark, dreary, rainy night for dinner. The atmosphere was great for both. Love the menu selections, the bowls in particular. Guests really loved the place, too."
Dined on 9/9/2013
They tried very hard to be hip and
cool. However the food portions were small and cold, wine average and the prices not worth the items offered. The flour less chocolate cake was fantastic and our waitress very nice."
Dined on 9/8/2013
nice little romantic night out in
the pearl for dinner at isabel's. not too busy or noisy at all. the portions were hefty and tasty. the special, with scallops and a delicious quinoa risotto, was the only let down. it came with 4 scallops and i would have enjoyed/expected twice that at the price."

Isabel's is a favorite choice for
my co-workers when we go to lunch. There were 12 of us this time and they accommodated us as they always do. Great food (broccoli jalapeno soup was yummy) and varied choices, the service is always good too."
Dined on 8/29/2013
I am always so happy when I pick
Isabel for brunch, even when they are super busy the service and food are consistently great! You can't go wrong here!"
Dined on 8/26/2013
Great Canitas Bowl with Black
Beans and Rice. Nothing little about the volume of Pork!"
Dined on 7/27/2013
Isabel has a wonderful, healthy
and flavorful menu with a warm and amenable staff. Although we arrived for an early dinner, this spot would be a great place to meet friends for brunch, dinner or a late night snack. Great outdoor space and all around fun place to dine with a Downtown NY vibe."
Dined on 7/29/2013
Our party really enjoyed the food
(the power breakfast is always my favorite), but even at a half-full restaurant, the noise level is VERY LOUD. Best to ask for outdoor seating, where you can have a conversation, or just go to enjoy the food."
Dined on 6/21/2013
Food at Isabel is reliably
delicious, with options for many dining tastes/restrictions. Many vegetarian options. Can be a little noisy. Have had a memorably tasty meal every visit, and look forward to going back!"
Dined on 6/6/2013
Basically a sit down cross between
Chipotle and Panda Express. Cheap seats and tables, mediocre service and a loud atmosphere. Will not return."
Dined on 6/1/2013
We were pleasantly surprised with
this little gem of a restaurant. Our server really knew the menu & was able to make good recommendations for us to choose something we would like. The food was good quality & beautifully plated. The restaurant was clean and had a good location to watch the street with the floor to ceiling windows on a corner spot."
Dined on 5/31/2013
Interesting mix of Latin and Asian
flavors. Loved the ahi platter! Excellent service."
Dined on 5/30/2013
The food was amazing! I tried
(forget what the name was) a blueberry jalapeno drink that was awesome too. Our waitstaff was chill and very informative. They seemed to genuinely care about their customers. The restaurant was clean and had a spacious feeling even though it was fairly small. I love sitting next to windows and they have lots of window seating (three walls of window). I've recommended this spot to everyone I've had a real conversation with since our visit. My only criticism is that the only appetizer with plantains also included meat. A little heavy for an appetizer when adding it to an entree. I love plantains and wish there were a second option without meat that included them."

First time visit for birthday
celebration. First impression only fair - there's not much signage outside and the inside could use a good scrub . However, surprise, surprise - the service was great and the food was excellent - especially the fresh Sea Bass special. We'll go back for sure."
Dined on 5/21/2013
Delicious and healthy food. Wine
selection wasn't amazing, but the service was excellent."
Dined on 5/17/2013
Super healthy options..... And
some naughty ones too"
Dined on 5/13/2013
Loved the menu, they really
offered a little bit of everything to fit anyone's food preferences/diet restrictions. Everyone at the table had something different and there wasn't anything we wouldn't order again. If they offered outdoor seating, I would definitely recommend this place -- however if they simply open the large windows and have seating inside. . . I'd have to say don't go there if you're wanting to visit with your table-mate(s). The building structure is entirely open with cement and glass, therefore the loud din of everyone trying to converse above the table next door, makes it very difficult to have a conversation without having to either talk very loud and/or ask your dining partner to repeat themselves often."
Dined on 5/2/2013
The waitress was amazing from the
moment we walked in to the moment we left. The food was delicious and the space was inviting!"

A friend and I were passing
through PDX on a short roadtrip. My fave restaurant was booked out so we tried Isabel Pearl instead. Some things just work out for the best as this place was a REAL GEM. They get the basics spot on: Delicious, wholesome and affordable (not "cheap" - but a terrific value for under $20 per person for dinner). Additional bonuses: Apparently they grow much of their own produce on a local organic-method farm nearby; One side of the building's glass walls tip out to offer the feeling of outdoor dining without being entirely exposed; The menu items are culinary creations - interesting (in a good way) - and all at this price. We were impressed, and I would definitely go here again next time I was in PDX."

Service and friendliness were
great. Food was exceptional. One minor hit forgreens mixed with broccoli which were very bland."
Dined on 4/19/2013
seating is a little uncomfortable
, service is nice."
Dined on 4/10/2013
Isabel has a fairly diverse menu
and all of our party enjoyed their food. It is not too noisy so conversation around the table is ok."
