Isa is a special place. The food is minimalist art but maximum satisfaction in presentation, taste and combinations of ingredients. Everything was prepared and served with pride and care. Allow yourself to taste and savor every ingredient. This is about dining, not just eating.
It's not the place to bring Aunt Madge and Uncle Jim from Mahanoy City but your Parisian cousin? Go for it! And have a special cocktail, all three courses and don't forget the bread. A lovely set of rooms with just enough funk and the absolutely best music mix I've ever heard. It's become a destination so newbies can feel a little unloved but the whole experience makes up for that.

Isa is simply great! Excellent quality food, beautifully and thoughtfully prepared, taasty, never boring, and a delight to the senses. Chef Ignacio Mattos cooks many of the menu items at a huge, beautiful word burning oven and grill and is a delight to observe. The servic is thoughtful, correct and delivered by interesting people. I returned the next evening for dinner and enjoyed the easy walk from the Bowery Hotel over the Williamsburg bridge.

Rarely have I had a dining experience at a place touted by food critics (recently in Gourmet magazine) where I ended up not only dissatisfied but also irritated. Isa had that effect. It offers the most limited menu of any non-QSR (quick serve) restaurant in North America. And the choices are - weird. Noise levels are high so it is difficult to converse. You are whipsawed from food that is quite good to stuff you eat and then just shake your head asking - why would anyone want to offer that? An attempt to be different just for the sake of being different with spotty results. Very limited offerings and weird food in a noisy environment did not for a joyous evening make.
So very disappointing overall, frustrating - and weird

This is the place I am taking friends from Europe for them to experience the "new new" thing in NYC dining. New concept high end food, artful menus, friendly service, well selected wines for pairing. Without attitude. Meaning... we bypass Manhattan to go to Isa!

Beautiful presentation - portions inversely proportional to the prices. The ingredients in the various dishes we ordered were of premium quality - but the flavors didn't always come together to make a complete dish. Still a "work in progress" but would definitely try it again.

2 for Tuesday Dinner. Sat punctually. Ordered the 5 course tasting menu. .. I am a pescetarian who does not eat shellfish/ seafood and advised the server... my date eats everything except Foie Gras. But the food was impeccable. Can't recall entire menu but it was WONDERFUL.
Bravo Annisa. .. only thing that went awry was they brought us Lamb. I was about to advise the server who came with the plates that it was in error, but he cut me off and started ELABORATELY explaining what we had in front of us. What we had was a simple mistake.. which was replaced within 5 minutes with a gnoccho dish (A DELICIOUS ONE I MIGHT ADD). Dismissed. Come earlier. better lighting. It got a little too dark in the dining area when we left.

This is one restaurant that really lived up to the high expectations we had. Everything: food, service, ambience was superb and there vas really good value. Each dish we had, the steak tartar and the foie gras broth as apps, the barley risotto and the duck breast for mains and the dessert radiated intense and unique flavors and had striking visual presentations. The unexpected mix of ingredients was fun but really enhanced the dishes as well. The wine list was approachable and the Rhine we had for under $35 was outstanding. We are closing on an apartment in Billyburg next week and there is no question Isa will be one of our local favorites.
