Diner Reviews
  • "We had a nice meal here with friends. They put us in one of their semi private booths which even has a curtain. The decor is northwest ...lots of repurposed wood. Menu is creative and fresh with a good combo of meat fish and veggie. My tri tip steak was prepared nicely with a good balance of flavors. Others enjoyed the fried chicken, one of their signatures. Overall, somewhat expensive but this is high rent pearl district. We would go back, but not every night."

  • "I had brunch at Irving Street Kitchen this morning and just left unimpressed. Our server was Zinn. The whole service sequence was extremely slow and to blunt awful: took ten minutes to get water, once coffee was ordered took 15 minutes (we actually got our appetizer before our coffee and we only received our coffee because we flagged down another server) ALSO coffee and water refills were a joke and no check back on how our meal was, which was meh. Honestly for their prices and location, I expected more. I may be back, but only to sit at the bar."

  • "Based on my one visit, I would not recommend this restaurant. I went there at first open on a Sunday morning for brunch. The service was definitely good, but that's where it ended. I choose the buttermilk pancake that was supposed to come with slow cooked apple bacon compote, priced at $12, along with a glass of pineapple juice priced at $3. The food arrived in reasonable time, but that's the only good I can say. I got three thin buttermilk pancakes which were about 5 inches in diameter, and maybe a quarter of an inch thick. The apple and bacon in the compote was about 3/16" to 1/4" cubes with enough to cover a quarter of one pancake. The pineapple juice was half of a 5 oz. cocktail glass. In terms of value, this place fails miserably."

  • "I had been in to Irving Street Kitchen once before for brunch and had a delicious omelet and good service. This time the omelet was bland and the service extremely slow."

  • "We were seated almost 30 minutes after our reserved time with NO apology. The only service that was timely was the water. The wait time for drinks was acceptable but the drinks were not remarkable and the coffee was just ok. Coffee refills were not frequent. The wait time for our brunch orders was close to 40 minutes. Absolutely unacceptable. Our server said nothing to explain the situation. The donuts were the best part of a disappointing experience."

  • "Despite making more than their share of mistakes with our order, we had an amazing experience. The food was outstanding, the staff were very friendly, and the space was extremely comfortable."

  • "This was our first visit to Irving Street Kitchen. We were seated promptly and had attentive service throughout our meal. The ambiance is very nice, with high ceilings and an open, spacious feeling to the restaurant. Although the bar was active, noise levels were quite reasonable for a Saturday night. I had the grilled octopus salad and the halibut bouillabaisse. Both were flavorful, with the halibut having a nice "kick" to it from the jalapeño. The wine list was reasonably diverse, with enough variety to have some good pairings with the menu. The serving sizes were large enough that we chose not to have dessert. Overall, we enjoyed our dinner here and intend to return in the future."

  • "We waited 45 minutes for our food, watched as people came, ate, and left and we still didn't get our order. The food was poorly cooked, overpriced, and failed in every way. The service was so slow, we were convinced he had forgotten us completely. This was an awful experience, I hate it when a restaurant is obviously stingy."

  • "Loved it- great ambiance, fabulous herb stuffed trout, Nice Oregon Pinot Gris. We enjoyed every bite!"

  • "We were a party of eight and the service / food was amazing though a tad slow near the end... which seems to happen after the main course is served and not all tables are full. There isn't a push to turn the table - which we appreciated. All courses were fantastic and the cocktails / wine were wonderful. We will be returning and bringing more groups from out of town when possible."

  • "Great food and service. We held our son's bar mitzvah party there and have never regretted it!"

  • "The food, wine list and service was excellent. I had the salmon with the spaghetti squash and my boyfriend had the smoked pork chop with creamy grits. Both dishes were perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. Also, you have to try the wine on tap. Thank you for a wonderful evening!"

  • "I took some friends from out of town to ISK because I had been wanting to try it and heard they would be accommodating to our dietary restrictions. I called ahead to confirm this was more than pleased with their response. I was happy to enjoy my favorite vermouth (Imbue) from a knowledgeable, friendly bartender. When my friends arrived the hostess was patient in holding our table until we were ready to move, which I really appreciated. The server approached our cozy booth with a menu she had marked up for us ahead of time with everything that already was GF/DF/egg-free or could be easily made that way. My friend said it was "the best meal I ever had, and I haven't even eaten it yet!" The food was all excellent, and I'll be back for sure."

  • "In a town known for its restaurants, this is not often on the list of the best. It definitely belongs there and their fried chicken is to die for."

  • "I first visited this restaurant a couple of years ago. I have returned to Portland twice since then and was finally able to find this place again. It was just as awesome as I remember. What a wonderful way for me to cap off my visit to one of my favorite cities in the USA!"

  • "Excellent experience-- service was flawless as was the pacing. Cocktails were unique and nuanced. The bone marrow with honey was one of the best plates I've eaten. Desserts were stellar."

  • "A lot is written about Portland's food scene but I have never seen an article on the Brunch at ISK. For our money and we've tried many throughout the city ISK is # 1 !"

  • "We were lucky to get a private booth, but even if we were out in the dining area, it would have been a fabulous experience. Appetizers and dinner was delicious. Excellent fried chicken. I can't wait to get back and try the dessert menu. It was incredibly creative and looked amazing!"

  • "Love me some ISK. What's unique is that the cocktail menu is as high of quality as the food menu. Sitting at the bar is not a bad thing at all if the dining area is booked. Great ambiance, diverse menu, impressive cocktail list and above average service make ISK a favorite. The other thing I like - and I don't know why this is - it's rarely fully booked. We can walk in last minute on a Fri or Sat and get a table fairly quickly. When it is busy, sitting at the bar is a good excuse to focus on smaller plates and cocktails. The wine list has some great wines that are rarely found elsewhere, e.g., Kosta Browne, though a little pricey. If you like something a little special & are willing to pay a bit of a premium, ISK won't disappoint."

  • "Brought family/friends to Irving St. for birthday celebration for son at his request. Food was overall very good with 7/8 meals rated excellent and 1 just very good. Appetizers were wonderful. Suggest sharing. Bibb salad was enough for 2 diners, but worth it. Dessert for the Celebrant,.....too good. Shared by all. Service was very attentive, not overbearing. Sat by the Kitchen which, as it turned out was great for a party of our size. All could hear but also feel part of the hub bub...Overall...will go back again."

  • "Which, so far, is only twice since we discovered it. But we will go every time! Some favorites so far: Salt Block Salmon, Meatballs in Green Peppercorn Sauce, Cornbread with bourbon butter. Don't miss the Bedhead! It's an amazing non-alcoholic cocktail. The famous butterscotch pudding is very good, but very rich. Next time we go with at least three other people we'll share it."

  • "The food here is an incredible blend of southern style and the Portland ingredients. All our food was simply fantastic and we can't wait to go back again. Our waiter was great for recommendations and the drinks were unique but still delicious. I can not speak highly enough of Irving street kitchen"

  • "First time for all of us! Dinner was a special occasion for a going away event for a work colleague. I enjoy the fact the table was specific for a party of 6, with a nice view outside. The ambience was fun. It was fun to share all 4 salads between 6 of us as suggested by our waiter. The time to wait between the first course and 2nd course for appropriate to enjoy our time there, but not too long. The stuffed trout was excellent (with skin) and others enjoyed their meals as well. Enjoyed the barrel to bar wine, what fun and tasty. Finishing with fun desserts (I came for the pudding) capped the night. Our waiter offered good advice and discussion around the food and wine."

  • "We had the Foie Gras PBB&J (favorite), Bone Marrow and Duck Sausage Cassoulet. They were outstanding!!! This was a food weekend as I am from the Bay Area and this was our favorite meal of all."

  • "This is one of my favorite places in Portland. Their food is always outstanding and they have an inviting atmosphere. Service is Portland is fair to poor at any given place; regardless of how nice it is. Service staff here was knowledgeable, however not that attentive and a bit cold. But you don't go for the service, you go for the food. I don't think the service here takes away from the experience but it certainly doesn't add to it. In general, I would recommend this place to anyone!"

  • "Ate here with 3 friends during a weekend getaway from the Bay Area. The service was excellent. We were quite early for our reservation so enjoyed a glass of wine at the bar. The menu was full of great selections and everyone was happy with their choices. I had the pork chop which was perfect, two others in my party had salmon which they really liked. We ordered two desserts. Loved one (butterscotch pudding), not so much the other (apple fritters). Overall a great meal and I would definitely dine here again."

  • "Great food, wine and service. After a few years this restuarant is in full stride. Great bar if you don't want to be so formal. You have to try the meatballs and fried chicken."

  • "The food was excellent. I had the croque monsieur with tasso ham and dungeness crab. The mornay sauce was spot on. My date had the eggs Benedict over gravlax salmon. Strong coffee. Not overly crowded at opening. I was worried about parking but did not need to be."

  • "Having trouble deciding between breakfast and lunch? iSK brunch menu covers both nicely! Love the atmosphere and unique decor, rustic meets modern. Had the fried chicken and waffles,,perfect balance of savory and sweet.service was a bit slower than usual, although our waiter was very kind."

  • "This is a great restaurant if you like to share. Interesting foods. We've been there several times. The Wine is expensive but the food is excellent. The meatballs and mash potatoes for an appetizer are fantastic and the fried chicken can't be beat. I wouldn't normally order these items. However, its a great place to take someone that hasn't been to Irvine street Kitchen, order both and share. They won't be disappointed."

  • "The restaurant is pretty good and the brunch food was well above average. A bit on the noisy side but bearable, cd have done with the background music a few decibels lower. The Bloody Mary was a disappointment, especially as it has been voted best in Portland twice. It relies overly on the amount of tabasco and chili with no discernible celery or anything else much. I've had better elsewhere and will continue my quest. The bar stock of spirits in general is impressive with Dutch Jenever and real Plymouth gins."

  • "Overall, quite disappointed with our experience. The hostess was abrasive when we arrived, the wine selection was thin, and one of our entrees was good (a steak dish) although the fried chicken was awful (undercooked and no flavor). Plus they sat us in the back corner of the bar rather than the dining room."

  • "Lynn, our server was extremely friendly, knowledgeable, courteous, and attentive. She checked in periodically without being overbearing and recommended some delicious dishes off of their menu. The hostess Dani was polite and had a smile on her face (which for some hostesses can seem to be an issue because they're seem tired of dealing with customers). The decor was themed without being over pretentious and the food's flavor and plating comprised of what I would expect from a restaurant of this caliber."

  • "From the very beginning we experienced a friendly waitstaff & atmosphere; our wine selection hit the spot and the food was out of this world. Thank you for a lovely dining experience in which we will frequent again.... many times more!"
