A word from Irregardless Cafe
An authentic Raleigh experience! When the Irregardless opened in 1975, it was known as the hippie, vegetarian place. In the 80s, it was the first restaurant in NC to ban smoking. Today, the Cafe is the longest operating restaurant in Raleigh with the original owner. It has changed much over the years but its core values have remained the same. It’s award winning, hand-crafted meals feature local and organic ingredients. A casual fine dining restaurant, the Irregardless offers fresh seafood, meats, vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free menu items - which all respect the environment. We also have a list of unique wines and craft beers as well as espressos, cappuccinos and 25 loose teas.
Live music is performed nightly. Our large stable of musicians play everything from jazz to bluegrass. These groups are listed on our website. Larger bands play on Saturday evenings for dancing.

The Irregardless Cafe is the place where friends dine regularly.

Irregardless Cafe did not disappoint. The food could not have been fresher! I loved that the vegetables were local, from their own garden and it was very evident in the flavors. Delicious from soup to nuts. I dined with two friends from out of town and they both commented they LOVED their meal. We sat outside and a few cars going by, but not distracting. Will be back.

Wonderful experience. The wait staff were awesome. The food was, too, with an eclectic menu that satisfied all the varied tastes in our group. A birthday celebration was honored with a free bottle of house wine (tasty!) And the entertainment (Latino Jazz Quintet) was perfect. We will be back, for sure!

Having heard the Irregardless Cafe's name mentioned on WUNC many times, my wife and I gave the IC a try for our 24th Anniversary dinner. The food was great! We really enjoyed the crab dip, the wine, the steak au poive and the spanikopita. The service was top notch, and we really enjoyed the music. I recommend this spot for dinner!

I thought from the website, the place would be bigger and the menu would offer more. When we got there, the hostess was miserable, the place is small and the menu was a fraction of what is shown online. Another overpriced "trendy" Raleigh restaurant.

We have been enjoying Irregardless for all 40 years it has been in business. We have just "rediscovered" it again and it is now our go-to place for all our special occasions. Service is always great and the food selections are great for vegetarians/vegans as well as those who love their meat! The music is always enjoyable and there are many different offerings from jazz, blues, rock. Highly recommend Irregardless for a great evening out!

Irregardless really is a neighborhood gem. This is my favorite place to eat in the Triangle area. My husband and I recently attended one of their beer dinners which was a fundraiser for the food pantry. The food was very tasty, however, I would note that the pairings and the food were better at the previous dinner. Regardless, the food here is always delicious, we were just spoiled from the first one!

The Mediterranean appetizer was delicious. Our entrees of the stuffed baked acorn squash and the spanakopita were also very good. There are many excellent vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. I rated Service as "fair" because our appetizer arrived before we had even received our wine and then the dinners arrived before we had finished the appetizer. We did not feel rushed by our server at all, but the kitchen seemed to be getting out the food too quickly. The live music was very nice - not too loud or intrusive.

Took my adult daughter here for her birthday dinner. The wait staff was very attentive, the atmosphere in the restaurant is quaint and comfortable. They had some live music while we were there, but it was not obtrusive at all (guitar and standing bass only) and was quite enjoyable during dinner. The food, as always, was impeccable. I highly recommend this restaurant.

This was my first dinner and Irregardless Cafe and will definitely not be my last. I had dinner with my husband and mother to celebrate my birthday could not have asked for a better time. There was live music with a guitar and violin. The volume was enough that you could hear the relaxing music but did not make you have to raise your voice to talk at your table. Service was great as was the food, and everything was reasonably priced. I also like how everything on the menu had its own twist. We all tried things we had never had before, and it was so good all of us cleaned our plates and still had dessert. I can not wait to go back!

We arrived as a group of 4 on an un-crowded Tuesday evening. We were greeted and shown immediately to our table. Our server was knowledgable and pleasant. She was attentive without being overbearing, reciting specials and beer know-how with ease. Our meal arrived promptly while a live duo played soft jazzy tunes on a small stage. The Venus Mars Chardonnay, although the cheapest option on the wine list, was extremely good. All in my group definitely enjoyed themselves, myself included! We will certainly be coming back to Irregardless Cafe soon!

Went with a party of five. We noticed that they are gradually going back to their roots by offering more Vegan dishes. They have also added several small plates. The menu at Irregardless is varied and very creative. Nobody should have trouble finding something they like there. The entrees at our table included lamb chops, pasta with shrimp, chicken kabobs, and vegan shepards pie. They also offered Paella, a salmon special, and brisket. Everyone at our table raved about their food. Although they aren't known for their desserts, this particular evening the desserts were spectacular. There is a reason they have been in business for 40 years. They keep up with trends and offer top quality food.

Time after time we dine at the Irregardless Cafe and are never disappointed. Each time we try something different and find each choice rewarding. This time we chose the Pesto pizza, warm goat cheese salad and Vegan Lasagna. Being Italian, this was my first time eating a meatless Lasagna and it was good. Certainly not my wife's Lasagna, but it was something different and good. My wife loved the salad and pesto pizza is awesome. Service was exceptional and I like that she checked on us and did not hover over us like some waitress's do. Irregardless Cafe is becoming one of our favorite dinning spots.

I had looked forward to experiencing this restaurant. PROS The food was pretty good, the service was excellent. Was able to make a reservation online. Music was enjoyable. The manager and the waitress went to a lot of trouble to help me find food I could eat (without soy). CONS Even though the restaurant has been there for nearly 40 years, the sign for parking is very small. I had not seen it and had to find street parking. I had stated on the reservation under Comments that I could not eat soy, yet the menu offered little choice for me. If they asked for a comment, expected a response. The tables were very close together. No sense of privacy at all. Not a good choice if you want to chat.

We LOVE this place. We drove all the way from Carrboro for a special birthday dinner. This was the first time we brought our 2 year old son with us. As gluten-free vegetarians, there are plenty of options. My husband and I both had the Chili Relleno which our son also helped delightedly devour. Given how delicious and creative this veg-friendly restaurant is, I'd hoped that their kid's menu might also be a bit more inventive than the usual grilled cheese and noodle options, unfortunately it was not. So this would be my one request of Irregardless, to think of a few more inventive healthy kid-friendly options to put on their kids menu. Oh, I do have one more request, consider opening a restaurant in Carrboro ;-).

It was our first trip to the Cafe. We ate dinner on a Sunday night, so it was quiet overall. They have live music every night - I was worried, music is often too loud that you cannot visit with your company. The singer/guitarist sound was kept to a minimum and was actually fairly nice to listen to. The food was outstanding. For vegetarians, we were in heaven with so many options. The service was great - attentive and fast. We will definitely be coming back for future trips.

We had a lovely dinner. Within our group of 6, two of us appreciated the wide variety of vegetarian options and the willingness of the staff to accommodate special substitution requests. The desserts were especially good. My only complaint was that the wine I ordered, a sauvignon blanc, was obviously not from a fresh bottle as it had that "overnight in the fridge" flavor. Other than that, all was very good.
