A word from Irregardless Cafe
An authentic Raleigh experience! When the Irregardless opened in 1975, it was known as the hippie, vegetarian place. In the 80s, it was the first restaurant in NC to ban smoking. Today, the Cafe is the longest operating restaurant in Raleigh with the original owner. It has changed much over the years but its core values have remained the same. It’s award winning, hand-crafted meals feature local and organic ingredients. A casual fine dining restaurant, the Irregardless offers fresh seafood, meats, vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free menu items - which all respect the environment. We also have a list of unique wines and craft beers as well as espressos, cappuccinos and 25 loose teas.
Live music is performed nightly. Our large stable of musicians play everything from jazz to bluegrass. These groups are listed on our website. Larger bands play on Saturday evenings for dancing.

The Irregardless Cafe is the place where friends dine regularly.

Although two of our four diners had had previously good experiences here, several aspects of the food were not up to par. The acorn squash was cold and under-cooked. The chocolate cake was uninspired with frosting that was barely sweet. The chicken and seafood paella was strange. In sum, the idea of this place was far better than the execution.

Very interesting food. The small plates are a good value. The best part of the restaurant is their willingness to divide plates if you want to share a plate, even the small plates. Small but adequate offering of wine by the glass.

Went to Irregardless Cafe for my 26th anniversary. The food is excellent (mostly organic) and the service was very good. The owner greeted us once we were seated and made us feel welcome. We both had wine, and then ordered: I selected the Blue Cheese Ribeye steak, and my wife go the Stuffed Acorn Squash. Mine was excellent, but my wife didn't find the squash particularly filling. We ended up the dinner with the Double Dutch Chocolate cake (for me) and the flourless chocolate cake for my wife...both were great.

I met a friend for dinner, it has been years since I ate at Irregardless. The place looked great, larger but still cozy. The food was fantastic. I had the Stuffed Acorn Squash and it was delicious. My friend had the Wild Mushroom Risotto and she said it was wonderful. The waitress was perfect. She gave us the exact right amount of attention. I felt like the prices were really good. I will put Irregardless on my list of regular places to go. Good selection of vegetarian dishes.

Love the food here. Warm goat cheese salad is my favorite! My only complaint is that, as a party of 2, you're always seated at that line of small tables just inches away from the couples on either side of you! It's awkward! I love the live music but it's almost difficult to enjoy over the chatter - I wish the music volume was a little louder. But overall, this is one of my favorite restaurants in Raleigh.

We learned about Irregardless Café several years back when we attended a wedding reception in Raleigh. The food was great and the basil mojitos were outstanding. We resolved to return if we ever got back to Raleigh. We went in for lunch on a Saturday. We did not know that they have limited lunch options along with brunch items. But we were not disappointed. We loved that one price covers a small orange juice, coffee (tea or milk), and breakfast breads along with the brunch item chosen. Egg dishes were good and potatoes were seasoned perfectly. There was live music but we could not hear it well from our seat. The acoustics of the place are the only downfall. It was fairly busy so I was glad we had reservations.

My out of town guests were won over the minute we were dropped off outside the door. The restaurant looked beautiful and inviting as we looked through the windows. Inside, the atmosphere was charming. Not too formal but not too casual. Interesting live music that was not too obtrusive. We had five people and could carry on a nice conversation. Food was very good! Nice range of prices too. Great little "off the beaten path" kind of place. Thanks for helping us treat our guests to a memorable evening!

This place can be summed up as odd. The ambiance and harpist is what pushed it up on the strange scale. Not saying this is a bad thing, just a unique experience. There are Neon lights in the windows behind a small stage with curtains. It gives the impression of a jazz club with a full vegan bistro accompanying it. However there is delicious meat options on the menu. I sat at the bar and had a few beers. The chicken skewer appetizer is enough for a main entree, and it was delicious. I also had their stir fry noodle dish which was OK. The stir fry was a little oily and the vegetables were cut a little large, unwieldy. Could be seasoned a little more, maybe add more garlic? Still a decent dish to have in a family style setting. 6/10

Great meal, fun live music. My wife is a vegan and there are plenty of things on the menu for her as well as my more varied diet. Her favorite is the vegan shepard's pie. I've have almost everything. I'd recommend the short ribs. This time I had the spanakopita and it was very nice. Live music is always good and appropriate in terms of volume. Can still have a conversation. Decent wine list. Service is always friendly and accommodating.

We started off sharing Quinoa Salad & Tempura Chips. The Quinoa salad was far better 6 months ago, it has lost a lot of it's "zest." The Tempura Chips & kimchi were very good but the chipotle aioli dipping sauce was bland. I ordered the Spanakopita & the spinach was more like grocery store frozen creamed spinach. Mom ordered the dreadful Quiche du Jour which was filled with peas & corn from a can. My sister had the Chile Relleno. While it was the best entree, had too much rice & not enough flavor Dessert was a disaster! Mom sent her Local Apple Tart back, worst dessert ever. The pumpkin creme brulee was edible, & the coconut cake bland. The strawberries used to top the desserts were at least 4 weeks away from becoming ripe.

I haven't been here in ages, but I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. I got the duck, and it was on par with my favorite (at Buku). In fact, I think I liked it even more! Only complaint is that there was a guy on the keyboard playing and singing so loud that I felt I had to yell across the table. Otherwise, spectacular.

Have nothing but praise for our experience at Irregardless. Had not been in many years and will not be a stranger. my request for a table near the stage via open table was fulfilled and the hostess and wait staff are truly the best of any restaurant I have been to in the Triangle. A lot of restaurants could learn how customer service is down from this gem of a place. Top notch service from the minute we arrived until we left after the show. If I could give 10 stars I would. PS pumpkin cheesecake creme brule is to die for.

Irregardless Café had been a favorite in the past and may still be good for lunch but it is no longer on our list of places to eat. The service was adequate but the food was poorly prepared appearing that quantity was more important than quality. The brisket was bland and the duck required a steak knife to cut. The accompanying starch/vegetables were unattractively presented and overcooked. The entrées were priced such that eating at one of the good Raleigh restaurants is a better choice for the same price. On a busy Saturday evening the noise level in this large open room with no attention to noise dampening was distracting and made conversation at our table quite difficult.

As a vegetarian, I appreciate having a restaurant that has such an array of delicious foods to choose from while also having great selections for my omnivore partner. We had the stuffed acorn squash, Shepard's pie, and the hummus (best in Raleigh.) They were all divine. I even received a free bottle of wine for my birthday! Everything is great about this place. The two exceptions would be: 1. The parking pretty much bites, especially if your handicapped. 2. Their last inspection score, while still an "A," it was low. The food, service, management, and even the dinner music, were all first class. Don't delay trying this place. It is one of Raleigh's best. I wish I would have found it years ago.

Had reservations for 6:45 pm, arrive at 6:43 pm and check in, host tells us that there is going to be a wait for reservations since they were hosting a charity night for kids from school to play jazz music. While we are waiting the host starts seating other people in that have checked in AFTER us. We had a 20 minute wait AFTER our reservation. We shouldn't have been waiting that long to be seated WITH reservations. When my husband finally went up to the manager to say how ridiculous it was to be waiting that long we got seated. Not ONE time did the manager apologize for the wait or go out of his way to make conversation or be nice. Needless to say will not be recommending this place to anyone or eating there again. Not a great experience.
