Diner Reviews
  • "We started with an order of cornbread, made with jalapenos, red peppers & whole corn kernels. I'd enjoyed it before and it's reliably tasty. My friend and I shared the Chopped Beef Brisket Sandwich. The brisket was tender and deliciously smoky. We like the way they serve it, Memphis style with cole slaw on top. The sweet and tangy sauce was on the side. It came with one side and we ordered an extra. Without our asking, we were served on two plates, splitting the Fancy Mac & Cheese between our plates and presenting our Whole Fried Okra in a bowl we both could reach. On a Monday, the crowd was light and we felt comfortable to relax and take our time, sipping our drinks and talking. My tea was fresh and brewed to my liking. Love it!"

  • "Three of us had the 1/2 chicken and the other one had brisket. All of the dishes were really good and the portions were about right, We tried the corn pudding and I really enjoyed it with the cornbread. I would recommend the Iron Starr."

  • "had an awesome experience at your place. The ribs & the pulled pork were delicious!"

  • "The Tenderloin was delicious. My wife and I also enjoyed the corn pudding and sweet potatoes. The potato salad was good, but the green beans were a little tough (not the way we like them). We also enjoyed the complimentary Deviled Eggs. The staff was polite and attentive for the most part and the dining area was open, but surprisingly not overwhelmingly loud with others talking. We greatly appreciated not having a TV every direction that we looked and some type of music blaring over our conversation!! Thank You for the pleasant dining experience!"

  • "The food was good but spicy; I liked the spices, but my wife did not. The atmosphere was good for a small group of friends, but not for a romantic date. Large, noisy open dining. The peach crisp was not good at all, but I would recommend the restaurant."

  • "Let's get it out of the way first thing: this is not the best barbeque in town. Actually, it's not even really close. That said, this is a good restaurant that happens to serve barbeque. If you're looking for good service, a nice atmosphere, interesting menu items, and a coherent theme, Iron Starr's a great place for lunch, dinner, and Happy Hour. Additionally, the layout is very conducive to large groups, so keep it in mind for your next large get-together. And the barbeque is good, just not mind-blowing authentic Gods of Smoke barbeque. And that's okay."

  • "I only ate the veggie platter and enjoyed my meal. It was nowhere near typical food though, which I actually like. My husband was less than impressed with his chopped brisket and rib platter. He also didn't like the sides. They already had a table ready for us with water since I reserved through open table. The waiter was great. Just way too busy. If you're in the fence try it. You just may like it if your adventurous at all food wise."

  • "Service was quick and efficient though waitstaff wasn't notably warm/friendly. The food was served in a timely manner at the right temperature with robust flavors. The cornbread was moist on the inside with a crispy crust on the out. The salad was fresh with the meat seasoned and cooked beautifully. My table mate was impressed with the seasoned fries though wished for a larger portion as they were delicious. This is a good place for a business lunch."

  • "We were looking for a place that served barbecue and something other than beer. Iron Starr fit the bill. The food was good and the portions were plenty. We had an enjoyable time."

  • "Just a couple of working guys that decided to hit Iron Starr for lunch and try the BBQ. We had the rib lunch and also the brisket sandwich. The portions were generous. I would personally recommend getting the hot BBQ sauce (had to ask for it) as it has a better BBQ flavor. The baked beans are also recommended, very tasty. It was a little pricey, but we kind of expected that. With the two of us having just water to drink and not appetizers or dessert the tab still came to almost $30. You will not leave hungry!! We will return."

  • "We've been to Iron Star several times but this was the first to make reservations. I live on th South side, another fellow was from the MidWest City area and then other two were ministers from the local St. Lukes UMC. We all had a great time, and we thank you."

  • "The food is excellent. It is. But for the price, we expected more than the tiny portions served. "

  • "Took a couple for a pre-game dinner. Their first visit. We usually get the same items and switched it up a bit. Food is always good. Everyone should be forced to get a side of the mac and cheese. Our server was great and not over bearing....we never went without anything. Will visit again and again."

  • "The food was good especially the sides. Service was poor. We were there mid afternoon on Mothers Day. Got our drinks & appetizers but then sat there for at least 10 minutes with no server to take our order. There seemed to be plenty of servers running in different directions but no one to serve us. Had to stop the manager to ask for a server. Barbecue was ok, nothing special. Son had 10 oz prime rib that turned out to be 5 oz of meat after he cut off the fat. Okra, sweet potato, Mac and cheese were good as was the cornbread."

  • "We have gone here for years and never had a bad experience. Food is always great as well as the service. It can be noisy at times so if you're after a romantic, quiet evening, this probably isn't your place. Otherwise, we highly recommend it. "

  • "We love sitting in the bar area at Iron Star. It's the perfect setting for this extremely tasty barbecue. I almost always get the Beef Tenderloin Salad while my husband likes the Barbecue Combo Platter. The lettuce on the salad although crisp and fresh was a much smaller amount than usual. It was mostly cheese and overpowered the dish. The dressing for the salad was too thick, but when I asked for more, the 2nd try came perfect. The sliced fillet was well prepared, however a little too much charring on the outside. (Disappointing, because I'm use to less mistakes). It was still very good. My husband's barbecue platter was wonderful - beef & sausage, and the cornbread was moist & delicious. We'll be back. Just an off night. Very unusual. "

  • "We had great service and I'm only sorry I don't remember our server's name because he helped create a wonderful dining experience out with friends. We will be back hopefully sooner rather than later."

  • "Didn't eat this time but made reservation on Open Table for a group. Requested bar because we were planning on going to First Friday walk just down the street in Paseo and I didn't know whether friends would want to eat any appetizers or just have cocktails. They were great about taking my reservation notes down for the bar seating. Even expanded it by two upon later request. Also said they had held off "poachers" from taking my seats...........LOL I give them hands down for service and attentiveness. Bartender may not have totally appreciated that we didn't eat but hey, we spent around $50/couple for drinks........so not all bad. I appreciated their service. (Food rating based upon past visit but place was crowded meaning others enjoyed)"

  • "Every time I come to Iron Starr whether it is with a group, or just my husband and I..we are always treated to the best...food and service. I recommend Iron Starr to everyone I know looking for something different, or wanting to try something new. Thanks again for another great evening, Melissa Schenk Dennis (Tinsley)"

  • "Iron Starr is another favorite! We love sitting in the front room area, and they always honor our request. Very casual atmosphere with delicious food. The tenderloin salad is so good - small head of iceberg lettuce stuffed with cheese and nice size slices of tenderloin (perfectly cooked) on the side. Very tender! The dressing is surprisingly on the sweet side (ask for extra dressing), and lots of nuts make this a satisfying entree:) I recommend it highly. Baked beans are very spicy, so stay away if you like mild flavors. The cornbread is a "must have." This restaurant is consistently good with friendly service, fun cocktails, and very good food!!! If you haven't tried it yet, be sure and pay them a visit. It won't disappoint!"

  • "I've eaten at Iron Starr twice. The first time we had a big group. The second time, it was just my husband and me. Each time the service was great and the staff was attentive. I had the brown sugar brisket. I heard from one in our large group that the hamburger was excellent. All-in-all, I like the casual atmosphere and recommend Iron Starr for any occasion."

  • "I couldn't have had a better time. We were a little early for our reservation, but we were seated right away. Our waitress was amazing. She was very personable and the device was fast, our drinks came quickly, the deviled egg appetizer was delicious. I ordered the special and it was phenomenal. Also, the beer choices on draft complimented our meals so well. My husband ordered the three sausage trio and said it was amazing and we had. I left overs to take home. The only thing I am bummed about was being too full to order dessert. I would highly recommend this restraraunt and ask to sit in Eva's section. We will definitely be going back!!!"

  • "Glad we made reservations through Open Table since the place was packed when we showed up. Special drinks menu was good, I found a new favorite "locked and loaded". Started with some deviled eggs, which were served with an assortment of delicious pickled items. Ordered the pulled pork dinner and chopped brisket dinner with mac and cheese and baked beans. Iron Starr is always a good choice for good barbeque!"

  • "Ribs tender yet gummy and dry rubbed Corn casserole was cold Yams tasted more like a very plain baked sweet potato. Sadly, I ordered the mac n cheese, I received.the cold corn casserole. My husband had the club sandwich with fries, he actually received the mac n cheese. It also took about 20 min for our nessed up order to come. I wonder how long it would take during rush hour.we arrived at 5:45. After lickin our fingers we couldn't understand y we didn't get a warm cloth like the other diners. .hmm"

  • "Stopped in for the Wed special. OK so yes its "only" chicken-fried steak, but they have a great CFS! It's Oklahoma so if you're going to have one it better be good. IT IS! Well played."

  • "Upon arrival we were immediately seated. Since we held tickets to the Civic center Pops concert we appreciated this and had asked to be able to leave for downtown by 7:00PM and we were ready to go by that time. We appreciate the attention to our details and the food and service were excellent! All of these qualities keep us returning time and time again for a great evening at The Iron Star. Thanking ya'll again and looking forward to next time---- Preston and Marty Thompson"

  • "I love the food but the noise level really was loud. I was having lunch with friends that I hadn't seen in a while and I wanted to visit but we practiclly had to shout at each othre to hear."

  • "The restaurant was nearly empty but the hostess tried to seat us at a table right up against a party of 10-12 people. I requested a different table and she reluctantly led us to another table. The server was polite and efficient but any attempts at friendly banter were ignored. He acted as though he was working a packed house. The food was adequate if not great. I really liked the pulled pork nachos we had as an appetizer. When our meals arrived, my okra was cold and tough. The dry rub on the ribs was a bit mealy for me. The sweet potatoes were an odd consistency but hot and sweet. My spouse enjoyed the turkey and corn pudding. The cornbread was very good. Nothing was a real standout. I don't see a return visit."

  • "My spouse and I went for dinner and ordered the pork ribs and bbq turkey breast with 2 sides each (mac 'n cheese, baked beans, dutch oven sweet potatoes, and corn pudding). The food was amazing ... the ribs were one of the best I've ever had and our server was great. He was very attentive to our needs despite the crowd in the restaurant. A caveat, the restaurant seems small so there many be a wait on a busy night. We booked reservations ahead of time so we were fortunate to be seated at a booth upon arrival which is what I suggest if you plan to go here for a special occasion. Lastly, if you saved room for dessert, the 6 layer giant chocolate cake is a must and will require a to go box."
