  • "We visited this steadfast establishment for our 30th anniversary this week. It has been years since we have dined at the Irongate; yet this survivor of the several economic slumps over the last decade comes through as good as ever. With our guest list of seven, from ages 22 to 87, where can you find a nice place for fine dining that will please both the young vegetarian and old-timer "meat and potatoes" diners happy?!?Irongate did it in spades!!! The menu is deverse, so everybody was pleased with their available choices. All of us thought the food was excellent. The service was great - thank you Frank! We even ventured into the suffle(s) for dessert - they were awesome! The lower score on ambience is due to too many tables packed in."

  • "The Iron Gate is always a terrific choice. Its pricing is on the high side but very good for the service, quality of food, and atmosphere. This was my 60th birthday dinner, and we enjoyed every minute of it. In particular, our waiter, Franc, was outstanding - he was efficient without being obtrusive, and had a great sense of humor and friendly manner as well. The steak au poivre is a consistent favorite, prepared beautifully at tableside, and for dessert cherries jubilee. This is a classic American/Continental restaurant that is never off the mark."

  • "Iron Gate is steeped in old world style and the heavy fine dining from restaurants 30 years ago. There are "specials" that generally are the same each time but presented as though it's original. There are items that are awesome such as their abalone and their lobster tails, their onion soup and their coquiles st. Jacques. The table side service is fun and charming, but their recipes need updated to more modern standards! Who uses A1 at a fine restaurant for flavor!?! The culture is a mix of local folks and. We comers to the area. If you know what to order you'll enjoy the unique old school charm and tastes. But there are some things that will leave you questioning wth!?"

  • "The food is still delicious since the first time I ate here in the late 50's on a date, in my young and single days. Our waiters were great. Especially the one with his "right on" menu suggestions. Two of us "girls" had the crab cannelloni which he suggested. It was delicious. The other two in our party, each had different styles of chicken dishes. Both entrees were loaded with mushrooms, which made them both very happy. All of the wait staff were very attentive. Without our having to ask, our water, coffee and tea were constantly refilled. We will definitely return! I was reminded of "The Good Ole Days.""

  • "When we dine at Iron Gate, we know we will enjoy quality traditional steak and italian/french cuisine with choices of old favorites as well as specials of the day. The tableside preparation and their soufflés are fantastic! No where would you find the attentive service of their entire staff, this is rare for any establishment but they truly have this here. For newbies, this restaurant has been here for decades and yes, there are a lot of the older generation here but that means I'll just be one of them too. Our whole family look forward to coming here for special occasions or just for lunch at the spur of the moment. We hope you never change anything here...the food and service is impeccable!"

  • "The Iron Gate has an old world ambiance and very good waitstaff to go along with it. It's not a cheap evening, but perfect for special occasions. They like to set things on fire here, whether it's Steak Diane or a flaming dessert, it happens often. They don't have baked potatoes with their steaks, but it's still very good."

  • "We hadn't been to Iron Gate in over a year...what a great fine dining place it is. The service and food were exemplary! We started with the crab cake special appetizer (very delicious, not dry or with fillers), I had the dinner salad with shrimp and my husband had the seared ahi as his salad. Both were great. We both ordered the sautéed scallops and prawn dinner...yum, yum, yum! Grand Marnier Souffle for dessert...the whole meal could not have been better! Our server, Magdi, was great too. He was professional but also personable. Thank You!!!!"

  • "Eating at the Iron Gate is like stepping back into a Mad Men episode. Waiters in tuxedos, real silver (plate, I'm sure), all the classic cocktails, and a great wine list. Paired with the classic French cuisine and impeccable service and you have a truly winning combination. It's a bit pricey for everyday, but is perfect for a special occasion or romantic dinner. Weekends can get a bit noisy (especially if, like we were, surrounded by newly graduated high school kids), but the Iron Gate never fails to please."

  • "We were big fans of Bella Vista in Woodside and were sad to see it close. It was great to see that some of the waiters and menu items have made their way to Iron Gate. The food, service and wine list are outstanding. We ordered a Rombauer Zinfandel that they feature for $51. A quick check online showed us it sells for $34 at the store. Make sure you order souffles for dessert."

  • "My wife ordered Surf & Turf -- the Lobster Tail was tough, the filet was ordered medium -- it was pink but was like eating sawdust, so dry! I had veal Oscar and it was so-so. Definitely not as bad as my wife's. She didn't even finish it. The soufflés were interesting -- each had a sauce, but the soufflé itself was tasteless."

The quality of the meat was mediocre; the sides were poorly cooked. The ceasar salad for two was very good.   • "My husband and I went to Iron Gate for our anniversary. As always, we were greeted like old friends, immediately shown to a table and had wonderful service. We did wait a little longer in between courses than normal, but it gave us more time to chat and we weren't in a hurry. The food, as always, was magnificent!!! The surprise desert for our anniversary was also a nice treat! The attention given to not only our table but all tables combined with the delicious food makes this place a MUST GO TO!!"

  • "This is good food, very classic -- but it felt like it was literally straight out of the 60s. They cooked a bunch of stuff tableside using a hotplate that literally had ridged faux wood paneling. The food was tasty, but generally just classics slathered in delicious creamy sauce. My wife and I aren't old, but we're not so young either. We were easily the youngest patrons in the restaurant at 7:30 on a Friday night. That's fine; every group needs to have its restaurants, but the food just seemed outmoded and left us feeling like we were being fattened for the slaughter =). We did have a very good wine, and the list was reasonable. The service was generally quite excellent, but the "young lady"s from our waiter got a little grating."
