  • "This is good food, very classic -- but it felt like it was literally straight out of the 60s. They cooked a bunch of stuff tableside using a hotplate that literally had ridged faux wood paneling. The food was tasty, but generally just classics slathered in delicious creamy sauce. My wife and I aren't old, but we're not so young either. We were easily the youngest patrons in the restaurant at 7:30 on a Friday night. That's fine; every group needs to have its restaurants, but the food just seemed outmoded and left us feeling like we were being fattened for the slaughter =). We did have a very good wine, and the list was reasonable. The service was generally quite excellent, but the "young lady"s from our waiter got a little grating."

  • "The Iron Gate clearly maintains its reputation as a true fine dining restaurant on the peninsula. This has been a special occasion restaurant for our family for many years. The food is unique, but traditionally French. The sauces are some of the best I've ever tasted. We had the Mushroom on puff pastry…absolutely delicious. The sole almandine came with a lovely light cream sauce, capers and lemon. Others had the crab cake appetizer (excellent) and the beef medallions (a large, but flavorful portion). For desert we had the Grand Marnier soufflé…excellent, but I think we may try the chocolate soufflé next time! The birthday at our table was celebrated with a chocolate sundae. The service was amazing…attentive, but not intrusive."

  • "I have been coming to the Iron Gate for years (decades even) and I can't tell you how it's really a nice place for both excellent food and service! It's a gem located in Belmont. We do all our family occasions (birthdays, celebrations etc) there and I even go with my co workers for a GREAT lunch! I have seen ladies in jeans and I have seen ladies in dresses so there is no strict dress code. Their steak diane is phenominal! Filet of sole to die for...their Australian lobster tail dinner is always a great selection along with the table side Casear Salad and Banana Foster for dessert! If you have driven by wondering if you should...YES YOU SHOULD!!!!"

  • "The reservation process is very reassuring. We received an e-mail reminder as well as a call to confirm that we were coming. The food was great and we could actually talk to everyone at the table. The food was very good. The filet of sole is always great and one of the people in our party had corned beef & cabbage and said that it was fork tender and delicious. The service was great. We will definitely go back."

  • "Left the restaruant with mixed emotions. Understood it was a 'classic' continential fine dining restaruant. Found it had changed to a more lively bar attraction, neighborhood experience. Much more casual evening than planned for our special birthday occasion. Food is very good, with generous portions. Service is good, if a little confusing, not certain which one was our waiter. Annoying first impression at front desk, checking in with reservation, sent to bar to wait, then was asked "are you here just for drinks or are you dining ?(from the same front desk person). By end of evening, the bar had started jumping, with boisterous music heard all over the restaruant. Might return with lowered expectations, as the food was very good."

If you don't want to battle traffic, pay for parking, and then drive in more traffic after dinner, seek out The Iron Gate right here in Belmont on the El Camino Rack of lamb, veal marsala, petrale sole almondine,peppersteak cooked tableside - all superb. Appetiizers like crevettes bordelaise and salads like the ceasars prepped tableside and desserts including a Grand Marnier soufflé round out your delicious meal at THE IRON GATE. AA++ ."

  • "we had a wonderful dining experience last Saturday with another couple. The restaurant is a throw back in terms of its continental table side service but that is part of its charm and uniqueness. Great entry salads like the Ceasar and Iron Gate salad for two prepared fresh at the table. Excellent entrees and specials: the veal dishes were properly prepared and the lamb and steak dishes were perfect. You can not leave without sharing a chocolate or grand marnier souffle. Our waiter Carlos was attentive and personable. Can't wait to return."

  • "The Iron Gate used to be a family favorite for special occasions. I say used to, because after cost-cutting changes (table flowers & candlelight disappeared), things were just not the same. The ambiance seemed to have suffered as well. Recently, Costco offered discounted gift cards, we bought them and thought to give the Iron Gate an overdue revisit. The evening (a slow Monday night) was a delight! The meal was fantastic. Our wonderful server, Taner, made us feel special and took care of every need with perfection. The food was delicious, as expected, but it was the atmosphere and attentiveness that did the trick. With or without the Costco gift cards, we will make it a family favorite again. Seeing Demitrios again was also a treat!"

  • "I've never been to the Iron Gate but my girlfriend suggested it for our Valentine's dinner. I'ts a good thing I reserved our table a month in advance, the place was packed! It's a classic old time restaurant with a great menu selection. Of course Diane wanted steak Diane which is prepared tableside as well as the Ceasar salad for two. What great presentation to wow your date and impress those around you when it's flambe'd. The food was wonderful. My bone in Rib Eye was tender and cooked to perfection and that steak Diane was fantastic! Portion size is just about right to satisfy the appetite with a bit of left overs from Diane's plate. We finished off with a wonderful Grand Marnier berry souffle. Overall, a great experience."

  • "We frequent this restaurant often. I'm sorry to say that I was freezing under the air vent and it made my dinner cold fast. But the seared Ahi was delicious. The blue point oysters were delicious. Our Manhattans were good with our meals. The mash potatoes were so good with wasabi. We didn't get our steak flam bayed next to our table due to restraints of space :( also, our salad wasn't consistent with our last visit. Frank was wonderful and engaging. He's extremely knowledgable of food and service."

  • "Valentine dinner (one night early) was perfect. When we arrived, we noticed plenty of parking. We were seated immediately and promptly greeted by our waiter, who was excellent. The Ceasar salad for 2, was prepared table side and was fantastic. My wife ordered the appetizer fettuccini Alfredo as her entree. We've never seen fettuccini Alfredo on an appetizer menu, but it was perfect for her. I had the steak Diane, which was prepared table side, by the owner Kaveh. Tender and tasty. Chocolate mousse and Carmel flan split for dessert, each were great. We could not have been happier with the meal, the service and ambience. This is old school cool"

  • "The elegant rooms makes for a very pleasant and relaxing dining experience with the usual dependably good food. Too bad the tuxedos are gone for the waiters; this was a distinguishing plus which made it standout from the other fine restaurants in this area. The minestrone soup was excellent as in the past. The halibut special with mushrooms was an interesting preparation with a fresh piece of fish and nice sides. The veal parmigiana was excellent, as always. Service by our waiter Miguel and the other staff personnel was very good, as usual. Corkage is now up to $25, high for the Peninsula, but the large glasses requested and provided are of high quality."
