Diner Reviews
  • "The food was amazing. We really enjoyed everything we ate. The staff did a great job attending to our every need."

  • "The complimentary amuse bouche was overcooked tough shrimp. The shrimp in another dish was the same and we returned it. The capresse salad was 4 under roasted grape tomatoes, mushy cheese, and imperceptible basil. The short rib appetitizer was delicious but the silly use of foam on this and other items does not add anything but pretentious fluff. The cioppino thai style was delicious. Very disappointed in so called 4 star restaurant. No point in stylish presentations if the food is sub-standard especially at top dollar prices. Not my choice in ambiance but a good view. Overall would not recommend this restaurant. I'm a foody and a good cook so when I choose to treat myself to a night out then I want to eat food I couldn't do myself."

  • "This was our first visit to Iridescence, but it will not be our last. Food was packed with flavor and unique in presentation. A very enjoyable meal."

  • "Excellent service and food. Great view of the city."

  • "The food and service were outstanding. The waitress was very professional and knowledgeable, and her only goal was to make us feel comfortable with our choices both food and wine. We were celebrating my husband's birthday, so it was a special occasion. The menu had wonderful choices. My husband had the tenderloin with truffled potatoes, which was like butter. I had the lobster with morel mushrooms and it was the most decadent dish I have ever had; instantly became a favorite. Overall, a memorable romantic dinner with a view that can't be matched."

  • "The food was good but services was slow . I would like to see a few different chicken dishes . Place was clean and Bright . It was kind of pricy for the amount of food but along the lines of what you would expect at a nicer restaurant."

  • "After being seated my wife asked why it had been years since we had been there. We enjoyed the great view of the city. She ordered the lobster I ordered filet, both were fine mine was a little over seasoned hers a little plain. In my opinion not worth the couple of hundred you will spend here for a couple. There are many restaurants around town; most of them cheaper, where the food is much better. This restaurant is all about the view."

  • "Was very dissapointed that there was no duck on the menu. Made the reservation through open table and thier site has a menu that says duck. I made a point to put on our reservation that we are coming for duck. No duck, I had lamb instead and it was okay. Just okay."

  • "I was very unhappy with my food. I was not asked if I liked the food or experience. This was an expensive lesson to learn. The noise level at the bar was very annoying . I will not return"

  • "Having been to Iridescence many times before, it was refreshing to see the menu had been changed somewhat. There lies the end of the tale, I noticed prime rib, with twice stuffed potato and a popover. I was expecting a slice of prime rib, with all the trimmings, what I received was a huge piece of meat that had been grilled. Other words a steak, the twice stuffed potato was not up to my standards and the popover was a heavy doughy mess and all this goodness for only $75.00. The whole meal was very disappointing and not up the Iridescence standards. Would suggest that they revisit the new menu and make further changes. The service was impeccable as always and this disaster was not the fault of our server, perhaps a new chef is in order"

  • "After visiting several high end restaurants in other places such as Traverse City and L.A. we found that Benjamin Meyer and his team have created a menu that offered the best food we have ever had. He has struck and amazing complexity and continuity through the flavors and textures. He is using the freshest ingredients and modern techniques without loosing a connection to culinary history. He provided a personal presentation of each dish and his friendly staff took care of our every need. His new-hire, Matt, and our maître d' Oretha did not disappoint with the wine selections. Hope to return soon!!"

  • "7 courses, were very interesting, and provided a fun alternative to ordering a meal and just eating it. Presentation was good, staff explained all the details. Was worth the $95 per person."

  • "A bit of show business with dining on the 16th floor of a casino. The casino itself sits in an old bread factory and the neighborhood is nothing to admire. The route out of here is a mess, also. The wait and ancillary staff were great as was the host."

  • "Food and service was top notch kudos to the staff."

  • "A friend of mine was retiring, while working with her she made a variety of wonderfully delicious food for myself and others she worked with -I needed a place that would thank her on a food level and make her feel really appreciated. Mission accomplished- from the moment you are curtiously received and invited into the wonderous space, you know you've found something different; my friends instant approval was heart felt with a gleam of anticipation. The night unfolded under laughter, stories and food that was perfectly prepared and presented. It was the look on my friends face as she tried her first taste of the beautiful plate in front of her, she understood how much I appreciated all she had done for me ... Her final words to me I'll"

  • "An enjoyable experience. Nicole and the rest of the staff were very professional, knowledgeable, and customer friendly. It was a positive experience from time I exited the elevator and entered Iridescence until my departure."

  • "Had such an amazing experience, from start to finish. Everyone was super nice and extremely professional, my sister's and took our Dad there for Father's Day and even though it was a week later our waitress still went out of her way to make the evening special for him."

  • "I went here with my family for my daughters birthday. Beautiful view, great food, excellent service. We will be coming back."

  • "The food was very good but overpriced according to my world traveling companion who has eaten in many on the highest rated restaurants in the world."

  • "Went for dinner and food was great. It was both my kids first visit and they loved it. We will definitely be haeding back."

  • "We had a wait person. We had a server. We had a bus person. And the chef stopped by to see how he did (He did great). The tasting menu if great for a very special occasion!"

  • "We enjoyed our dinner at Iridesence, especially the spectacular view of Detroit. They seated us at the window as we requested, and it was stunning. Our server went a little overboard explaining the menu (I can see the appetizers are on the left). The food was delicious and artistically presented. The polenta (we're guessing) croutons in the caesar salad was a delicious surprise."

  • "The ambiance was great. The iridescent backdrop is breathtaking even though I would like to see it later at night. The waitress Oretha was superb, knowledgeable, articulate and very pleasant. The food was terrible. it seems that there is more focus on presentation than the preparation and quality of the food. I ordered a New york strip steak cooked medium. It was the worst ever, and that it not an exaggeration. The steak was cold and over cooked not tender and juicy as a $49 steak should be, the potatoes were cold. Very disappointing for a birthday celebration."

  • "The staff was very well versed on the menu and the food was amazing!"

  • "Staff were all extremely kind and were happy to snap a few photos for my date and I. Our waiter was so knowledgeable part of me thinks he was the Chef acting as an undercover waiter. That would be cool! Food was great and presentation cleaver...and the little chef surprises were fun and made us feel appreciated by being there. Overall... expensive, but great experience."
    Dined on 6/25/2014
  • "Food was very good but service was just ok. Our waiter had a thick Indian accent which made it very difficult to understand what he was saying; we had no idea what the specials were... The waiter had also just given himself a dye job and the black hair dye had also dyed parts of his hands which was kind of distracting...."

  • "Too pricey for paying customers, but great if you have comps you need to blow...too fancy for my taste. I was expecting my steak to be served whole on my plate. Presentation was artistry, not necessary. A once in a lifetime evening dine out."

  • "I always love the food each time I dine at Iridescence, the chefs never me down! But beyond the wonderful food is great service that really is a step above all others in the metro area. When I made the reservation for a party of 4 and one of my guests brought an extra person with many individual dining needs the staff quickly accommodated our party into a table for 5. Not only that but each staff person throughout the night was able to help our 5th guest with all their special needs while we were there for the evening! Of course they did this as if it was no big deal at all! My evening was great ...even with the unexpected guest! If your looking for a worry free night with exceptional food make Iridescence the one 4 you."

  • "View is nice. Wine & cocktails very good. Food too tricked-up & overpriced. Love to eat @ great restaurants but not when good items are put together with so many items that you can no longer figure out what you're eating. Also hard to enjoy entrees so highly priced that you cannot justify the cost, specially when so tricked up that you're not sure if you will like them. I enjoyed the cocktails & wine. The bread basket items were very tasty and thee amuse bouche was very nice. Perhaps target market is only gamblers who have been winning & drinking, celebrating their gambling successes AND those who are belong "comped", so they may not care about pricing and enjoy eating unusual preparations."

  • "I took my 10 year old daughter and my girlfriend for dinner here. Everything was delicious. The chef paid special attention to my daughter which made her day. My daughter got the salmon. My girlfriend got the chicken. I got the Thai shrimp and mussels. We will be back to get the steak."

  • "We enjoyed a wonderful dinner on Father's Day. The food was fantastic. Even the desserts (which we didn't think sounded great from the menu) were wonderful. Would strongly recommend for a wonderful meal. Not for the budget conscious, however."

  • "My daughter and I treated my husband (her father) to a special Father's Day dinner. They were ready for us when we arrived. Oretha, our waitress was efficient and courteous. The food was excellent and the presentation outstanding. The appetizers, salads and entrees were excellent and generous enough for each of us to have "take home boxes." I recommend the venue for any "special" occasion!"

  • "The food and service at Iridescence are terrific. Oretha, our server, and her assistants made certain we had an enjoyable time. They made a point of making our anniversary extra special. Best view is around sunset as the lights come on in the city."

  • "Good food, great service and an amazing view to the city just love it. I would highly recommend this restaurant to our local residents and to the city of Detroit visitors. I can't wait to go back again."

  • "You may be forgiven for assuming iridescence is a tourist, casino restaurant for high rollers. This is a restaurant for foodies as well as Family celebrations. After several visits I was determined to try the kaiseki menu, consisting of 7 courses, a building of textures and flavors unique to each table based on your palate. Surprises abound: cantaloupe mouse with smoked salmon roe; fresh hearts of palm salad; biscuit with foie gras gravy. The experience was sublime. Service is professionally, not over friendly or intrusive. Chef Benjamin Meyer respect for food shows in the artistic presentations highlighting the finest ingredients available. I am still thinking of the dinner two days later and anticipating my return next month"
