Diner Reviews
  • "We picked IFC for brunch after going to a good party there. The brunch was well-priced; portions were big; the buffet looked nice. We had a great waitress to start, but part way into our meal she went on break (ok. it happens.) and was replaced by one of the worst servers I've ever NOT dealt with: it was impossible to get his attention. I rarely complain about waitstaff. It's a hard job; sometimes you have a bad day. Fair enough. But the place was nearly empty, there were plenty of servers, and we were still ignored, as was the gentleman at the table next to us. If you can get a good server, the place is good (it was packed the first night we went. A good sign. The bartenders were good). With a different server, I'd consider going back."

  • "Enjoyed Easter brunch this year. Very good Sunday buffet brunch. Our group also enjoyed the Lamb Stew which was terrific. Ate in the quiet room with grandparents and we all completely enjoyed the meal."

  • "We had reserved for a group and were seated by the door- cold air blowing in so we had to keep getting up to shut the door. Server was very busy and tough to catch his eye for refills. Soccer fans near bar were shouting and cheering loudly. Fine for our purposes but if you want to hear each other sit in another room away from the bar. Great Sunday buffet and cozy decor"

  • "We have found Four Courts to be a great choice for casual dining on an Friday or Saturday night, when we usually take a break from cooking at home. They take reservations, the food is really quite good, not what I would call "pub grub". Fresh ingredients, and things come hot and well-prepared and seasoned. One of us is a burger person, and you can't go wrong with that, but I often get the night's special... love lamb, and fish, both good here. They have two very good chicken entrees that my husband likes, and the fish and chips is a winner. The place is definitely popular, and crowded on weekend nights, but has a fun vibe, although noisy. Service is good, in spite of the crowd. There is often live entertainment, starting at 9 pm."

  • "We had a great dinner and drinks at this traditional Irish pub. We were seated next to the fire place that was a little more intimate. Perfect for a post Valentine's day dinner."

  • "If you are looking for an authentic Irish restaurant in the DC area, then this is the place! The menu is off the chart, the food is out of this world, service, ambience.... Need I say more ~ this is the place!!"

  • "Good food. Classic Irish Pub Atmosphere. Reasonable Prices. A Neighborhood Standby."

  • "We have been trying fish and chips at different area restaurants, and these hit the spot! The batter is light and tasty, almost like tempura batter, and the cod fish is firm and mild flavored. On Tuesdays, the plate is $9.95 and you get three big pieces of fish and a plate full of fries. Our other order was a Reuben sandwich, which was good, but we prefer plain rye rather than marbled rye. If you like Irish brown bread, order some when you order your drinks. It is the real thing. It is served with several other dishes, but I like to have it as an appetizer. The noise level was quiet because we were there in mid-afternoon."

  • "Terrific place to catch a soccer game, and the "go-to" place for several DC/Arlington-area supporters clubs, including Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham."

  • "Let me begin by saying I love Ireland's Four Courts. Great atmosphere and the food is usually very good. However, this past Sunday we went for brunch and I have to say it missed on so many marks. I give them a high mark because we all have our bad days, but I hope the managers take this serious. We ordered the eggs benedict, which we have had in the past and, other than mine, felt they were just about the best in the area. Not Sunday. The eggs were overdone, the canadian bacon was wafer thin, the muffin was cold and the hollandaise was flavorless. You missed on all marks. I will go back, but if I were a first time customer, I would be weary about making such a decision. Here's to ramping it up back up in 2014."

  • "I've done dinner, drinks, brunch, lunch at Ireland's Four Courts over the past 10+ years and can't think of a negative experience. The staff from bartenders to waiters to bus boys are always outgoing and polite and you can always rely on them to have a game on. My most recent visit was for lunch and it didn't disappoint. The food, for me, has never been something to write home about. I had a burger with fries and it was good, as expected, but just a burger. The fries were delicious and the beer was cold. If you want something quick and low-key, I'd recommend this place (and also their other locations) for a visit any time of day."

  • "We had a nice Friday night dinner here. The grilled fish special was really good. We thought it was early enough to bring the kids before the place was really jamming. We underestimated how loud the crowd would be-the music hadn't even started yet. Our poor kids covered their ears and I kind of wanted to do the same myself. I have to thank the manager. He picked up on the kids without us saying a word and he had a table for us set up in the dining room away from the bar where it was quieter. Before the end of the meal all of us were happy and we had a nice birthday dinner for my husband. The service was great."

  • "A pretty decent Irish bar with a restaurant to boot. The food was good and the wait staff was friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was a bit loud though, but for 6pm on a Tuesday right after work that shouldn't be a surprise. However, we were surprised to find they were having Open Mic Night and the speakers were on full blast. Lets just say it became uncomfortable pretty fast if you're looking for a nice place to eat. If you're looking for a nice bar scene with lots of other 30+ professionals, this is your scene."

  • "Our daughter loves all things Irish, so we took her to Ireland's Four Courts to celebrate her graduation. Our native Irish waitress recommended the chicken boxty and we all ordered it. It was sumptuous, and I plan to go back for chicken boxty again next time I go to Arlington. We sat in the "quiet room", which was very beautiful and authentic with the woodwork and decor. The only thing that would have made it more Irish, would have been some Celtic music. Even in the quiet room, the beat of the bar music in the next room was loud. We are non-drinkers, but it was still a great evening with great service and great food."

  • "My wife and I were staying in Arlington Va during a weekend visit to DC. We came here for dinner one night because we usually like pubs and pub food. We almost walked out because the noise level was so high. It's Very unpleasant to sit and eat there and we were in the "quiet area." The service was decent and so was the ambiance. The beer list was somewhat disappointing but we managed with that. The food leaves a lot to be desired. My wife thought the corned beef tasted like fish and she couldn't finish it. The shepherds pie had good flavor but was very soupy and hard to eat. We would not repeat."

  • "We made reservations for 18. They were ready. The service to 18 was outstnding. The waiter was very very friendly, personable and accomodating. He made the experience above outstanding. The food was delivered ontime and hot. It was cooked fresh. They did a great job handling the 16 of us. As one member of our party stated:"This is a keeper!""

  • "We arrived 20 minutes late for our reservation on a Friday night--stuck in traffic. Even though it wasn't his fault, the manager showed great concern and found a table for us as soon as possible. Great restaurant, great food, wonderful service - we will return."

  • "The bar was nice and energetic, but sitting down for dinner was a mistake. We were seated in a corner which was nice because it was quieter, but the service was absolutely horrible (took for ever to meet our server, and once we did he didn't come back very often. That's especially bad since we were there for happy hour). The appetizer was good but the main entree was overcooked and even if it wasn't it wouldn't have been much better."

  • "This was a great Irish restaurant and was comparable to Irish food we had in Ireland. They had great service and were really quick with the food. We have come there many times and it is consistently good!"

  • "Noisy - I should have picked a quieter restraurant for our visiting family. Hard to hear across the table. A word on the service - our waitress was seriously rushing us. Not sure why, because there was not a line waiting for tables, and when tables cleared out they sat empty. She wanted to take our order right away, before the appetizers came. We asked to wait a few minutes so we could enjoy the appetizers and visit. She was back 3 minutes later asking to take our order. We asked for more time. 3 minutes later she was back again. By the 4th attempt, we were worn down and so we ordered. The food showed up before the appetizers were gone."

  • "Dining by myself, didn't just want a burger (though they certainly have them). I ordered the Tuesday special: fish and chips and was very pleased with the results. Many other restaurants do fish and chips with a kind of flakey, uninteresting batter/crust. Ireland's Four Courts is authentically crispy like a good Irish/UK fry. Very tasty crust enveloping very fresh fish, crisp fries not over seasoned and tasty cole slaw--all at a very reasonable price."

  • "I held my birthday party at Ireland's Four Courts. It was alot of fun though the service was really slow and the karaoke DJ often got confused and lost his lineup sheet repeatedly. The food was decent and the drinks were great. Definitely would recommend for a casual group setting."

  • "We've dined here a number of times over the years (we are out-of-towners). Sometimes just my husband and myself, other times with large groups. Ireland Four Courts rarely fails to rise to the occasion. The service is always friendly and knowledgable, the ciders are great and the food fills and is served in a timely fashion. Every once in awhile I order something I'm less-than-happy with, but it's part of experimenting. The Shepherd's Pie? Amazing! Try the calamari! Big, juicy pieces - no rubber. On the other hand, the Dubliner Mac and Cheese was disappointing and bland, which surprised me. Mac and Cheese and corned beef? What could be better? The Lamb Stew or Chicken Pot Pie! We look forward to our next visit!"

  • "This place was great. We reserved a table and just walked up the block from our hotel. They really appreciated reserving a table and we were sat down as soon as we got there. The 3 of us all got the Four Courts burger for dinner and it was outstanding. Definitely would return to this place the next time I am in the DC area."

  • "We had a great dinner at the Four Courts. We chose the place on a recommendation from a friend. Made a reservation, though it isn;t required (but they did appreciate it) and had zero wait-time when we showed up. We sat outside, since the seating is spacious and the weather was nice. Service was very good, fast, polite and attentive; the team of wait staff and bus boys is efficient and the manager makes sure to come around and check the tables. Food and drinks were great with a huge selection. the "worst" part was deciding what to get with so many good options. No one in the group was disappointed. We also had our 6-mo old daughter with and the staff was very aware of her and bringing anything we needed for her as well. Awesome place!"

  • "The food was hearty and at a very reasonable price for the area. The Irish stew I had was not too salty at my request, and the bread that came with it was really tasty. We had a large group and they set us up in the back where we had plenty of room to chat, catch up and not feel like we would bother other patrons preferring a quieter atmosphere. It is a comfortable spot for drinks and some homey-feeling non-fussy food."
