Diner Reviews
  • "We had an awesome birthday dinner party! We are regulars and invited 4 friends to join us for their first Iorio experience. They loved it as much we did! Wonderful food & beverages, service and atmosphere. We always dine early (5pmish) in order to get a table and have plenty of time to enjoy ourselves. Iorio caters to food allergies (gf, vegetarian, etc), and the quality is SUPERB. Truly is our favorite Italian restaurant in PDX!"

  • "The food was great and service was prompt. The location is somewhat off the beaten path, but we had planned to make a special trip to get to the restaurant anyway. My parents have eaten here several times and raved about the food. Would have loved to have tried a dessert, but we had already made plans to try a new ice cream place in the Alphabet District."

  • "It's a place for Foodies. Really enjoyed the Lemon Cello Coolers and the creamy polenta. The cheese plate is a must. The noise level is high, so don't plan to carry on much conversation across the table."

  • "A never miss restaurant. We have enjoyed eating at IORIO several times, with family, out of town guests or just good friends. The menu is balanced so that the meat, fish and vegetable eaters are all offered really good options to choose from. On our last visit we had two carnivores, one vegetarian and two picky eaters. All were pleased."

  • "We love this restaurant, have had many positive experiences here both going solo or taking friends. Service is always friendly, efficient and non-intrusive. Food is always excellent. Bonus points for catering to gluten-free options, although you would never know you were eating gluten-free. This is just a very special place."

  • "Our waiter was new and tried hard, but clearly not up to speed. Our $9 cocktails were made without carbonation and the waiters solution was to bring us a glass of mixer that was carbonated? Now what? The seafood special was not up to the Iorio standards. Other courses from the menu we had were very good. Wine list was good and our selection was quite good. Probably won't rush back to Iorio, but maybe sometime in the future."

  • "From the focccacio with butternut squash spread stuffed with fresh roasted garlic, to the beets thinly sliced and layered in dolce Gorgonzola, to the fresh gnocchi in slow cooked bolognese to the creme brûlée baked with fresh Oregon cherries -- it was exceptional. Attention comfortable service. Reasonable prices"

  • "We like to eat at Iorio: first of all, the food is really very good and the service is very competent and friendly. The total experience is akin to eating at the home of a good friend who is also a wonderful cook. You will never leave hungry or unhappy."

  • "The restaurant meets all the expectations of someone who grew up in Brooklyn NY and frequented Italian restaurants. It is fresh, wholesome, abundant well prepared and served food. In fact, count on taking half it home with you in their very recyclable containers. I recently had the beet salad--two different beets, crispy greens, cheese and an herb. It was delicious. The only negative does not relate to the food which is varied enough for a vegetarian to have plenty of choices. The room can be a bit noisy at times but the wonderful guitarist's playing helped dispel this annoyance."

  • "Iorio is not a fancy place, but the food is excellent and the service is good. We have eaten here twice, and both times we left feeling very good about the experience."

  • "Romantic atmosphere with lovely classical guitarist Sunday evening. Excellent service with informative and friendly waiters. Nice presentation, portion sizes are generous, and food is very well seasoned."

  • "We purposefully set out to explore new dining experiences and struck gold. My only complaint: Too much food! Oh. Wait. Maybe that's because I ordered too much? Pizza as an appetizer? What could go wrong? Highly recommended. Was pretty noisy, but it was Saturday evening and there were two large parties. We will be going back. Didn't get to sample near enough of their menu."

  • "This was my third time at Iorio and as always it was superb. Everything from the service to the food to the ambience. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for consistent, delicious, tasty, cuisine."

  • "This is among the best places to eat in Portland, hands down. Fantastic dishes, good service, and owners who care about the food and the people at their restaurant. I've never been disappointed by a meal here. This is a place you introduce to your good friends and where you bring your loved ones from out of town to sample the best of the Portland restaurant scene. The offerings are delicious, accessible, and satisfying. Others may not see Iorio as kid-friendly because they don't hand out crayons and paper placemats for coloring. But if you have kids age eight or so and up who are good eaters, you'll find something they will like here (that's what my kids said, anyway). I hope Iorio is around for many, many years to come."

  • "I love this restaurant. The food is incredible across the entire menu, rich without being too heavy and very well balanced. I really apreciate how attentive they are to gluten allergies. I have celiac yet can confidently eat almost everything they serve. The calamari and gnocchi are especially fantastic. If that wasn't enough, their staff is wonderful and every person from the host to the chef is dedicated to each diner having a thoroughly enjoyable experience."

  • "I was very disappointed by the lack of quality of the food at Iorio. Went for my birthday and left wishing I had picked a different restaurant that I know to be exceptional in Portland, since there are many to choose from, rather than trying some place new that did not live up to its advertised hype!"

  • "Every time we visit Portland we have dinner at Iorio's. The food tastes like mom made it, or better! The staff is friendly and the ambiance is warm and intimate. I always order one of the pasta dishes because they are so flavorful and satisfying. "

  • "There was 7 of us between the ages of 18 to 78 years old. Everyone talked about what they wanted to try the next time they came. I personally had the slow cooked pork and polenta, it was an amazing dish. This place is so good ! I highly recommend it to anyone looking for great Italian food. "

  • "Basically good. 2 issues.all the plates were rimmed with pesto for decorations and dessert was a weak link.staff was very good as was management"

  • "My husband can't eat gluten or dairy, so Italian food doesn't figure into our routine as much these days...but Iorio's is a wonderful find! They were incredibly accommodating--our server checked on all our orders to make sure that they were safe to eat...and best of all, it was incredibly delicious! We'll definitely be coming back. Also, the wine list was superb."

  • "As empty-nesters, we dine out relatively often. Finding Iorio was a real treat because they have the perfect combination of great food, friendly service, and a nice vibe. The "Preserved" Lemon Chicken needs a new name - there's nothing about it that fits the connotation of preserved - instead it was delicious (and not even very lemon-y). The Eggplant Parmesan was some of the best we've had in years."

  • "What a great find... this spot was charming, the service was wonderful, the food was phenomenal. Would go back in an instant! Make sure to try the gnocchi of the day, and the pork dish was otherworldly. The whole staff made our celebration even more special that I'd thought possible."

  • "Homemade G-F pasta! It's amazing to find a restaurant that makes it possible to enjoy delicious G-F pasta in wonderful homemade sauces. The pear, candied walnut and greens salad was disappointing--a balsamic dressing had no subtlety and no balance and lay in pools on the top of the salad, making delicacy impossible even if one tossed her own salad."

  • "Great service, food was delicious including dessert. We'll be back!"

  • "I've here a few times, but it has been a couple years since the last time. Food was good, but very limited for someone with food allergies, such as dairy, or vegetarians. We had one of each in our 4 top and there was one menu item that we could each order and the vegetarian item wasn't even on the menu. Spaghetti and italian sausage did not list cheese on the menu, yet when it came out I was served a plate with cheese all over it and a large portion of rudeness when I asked for one without cheese. Once I received my food without the cheese, it was very good and we all enjoyed what we ordered. Noise level was fairly loud. We could still have a conversation with raising our voices, but it was louder than I expected. Overall I'd rate it 2.5."

  • "Food was outstanding and service was appropriately attentive. Will return and recommend to friends, loved the restaurant."

  • "That was about it! We just didn't get a warm feeling. Although the food was very good, with exception that, for an Italian restaurant not to serve bread...without specifically ordering it, put a damper on the beginning of our meal. Plus...an order of the house chardonnay produced what appeared to be about a "shot glass" of wine in my glass. The server was less than enthusiastic. I must say, that the calamari was exceptional, and I'd actually order it again...."TO GO"."

  • "What a lovely place. Our server was more than attentive. The dining room was filled with all sorts of groups enjoying a meal. We had 6 ladies meeting for dinner. It could not have been more perfect for us. The food was truly enjoyed by each of our girls, and the price point was amazing for the quality of food we received. This place goes on our short list. It was a perfect evening out enjoyed by all. That does not always happen."

  • "The food here is soooo good! You have to get the calamari! "
    Dined on 5/11/2014
  • "I am a repeat offender at Iorio and brought a guest with me for another wonderful dinner. The Calamari appetizer is an amazing dish and shouldn't be missed. My guest ordered the Lamb and I had the Lasagna. The timing of these two dishes was simply not to be. The lamb was wonderful and melted in your mouth. The lasagna dish obviously loitered in the oven, waiting for the lamb, and was burned around the edges. I was slightly shocked that the dish would even leave the kitchen. Still good, but the presentation put a din on the rest of the meal. No one likes to eat off a plate that has a charcoal border. Our waitress, who was extremely friendly and provided top-notch service, served the meal without even a comment or apology. "

  • "As a gluten free family finding an Italian restaurant rare. Imagine our delight when we found so many options that we had trouble choosing. We will return!"

  • "First time here and we were treated well, sat on time, food came quick and all tasted very good! I was especially happy with the selection of GF offerings. Calamari was great as well as the Eggplant Parmesan. Yumm!"

  • "Great menu, great wines, a good time was had by all."

  • "We were a walk by/drop in and sat at the bar. Food was amazing! Rib-eye was outstanding! We came back a 2nd time with more people and will be back again. A definite favorite."
    Dined on 5/9/2014
  • "Finally, a restaurant that offers several gluten-free choices and reasonable alternatives! The only kitchen misstep was overcooking the fish entree; otherwise, an excellent meal whether or not you selected the gluten-free option or not. I would place Iorio on the top 10 restaurants ion Portland list. "

  • "The food is always good there. What we had wasn't as good as usual, but still good. I recommend the beet salad, the veggie lasagna and the eggplant parm. The server was really nice, but not as attentive as she could have been. The a/c needed to be on or up a little higher as well. "

  • "I've been to Iorio several times and have never left disappointed. I love the house made lasagna with it's tender pasta, the eggplant parmesan is unexpectedly unique and absolutely delicious and light; the pulled pork with polenta and root vegetables is rich and succulent. The salads are perfectly dressed (read: not swimming in dressing) and utterly fresh. The portion sizes are more than adequate and very elegantly presented. I can hardly wait to try the desserts--I want a cannoli but have been too full on each of my visits so far...something to look forward to!"

  • "The pasta dishes were uncomfortably rich, creamy, and unnecessarily cheesy. Reminds me of the Olive Garden pasta sauces. Really nice staff, though. Did not get any of their Secondo meals - maybe they push back from the butter and cream for those. "

  • "Whole leaf Caesar salad was very fresh. This neighborhood location is great for parties of 3-4. Wine list is short, but good choices in $40 range. We will go back & reservations are best way to go. "
