A word from ink.
ink. is chef michael voltaggio’s first signature restaurant. alluding to the idea of permanence, ink. endeavors to create an indelible impression with flavor profiles that are inspired by the myriad of cultures that make up the city of los angeles. Thusly, he describes the food at ink. as “modern los angeles cuisine” and aspires to create an experience that will repurpose the term “fine dining” for angelenos. Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Second time around at ink for my wife and I. Once again - a great dining experience. They've upgraded the lighting, which is nice. I miss the chickpea fries with lambneck gravy, but I also appreciate the newer menu items."

  • "everything ordered was delicious.... the hamachi, egg yolk gnocchi, octopus, corn, beef cheeks, and mountain yam (dessert). the egg yolk gnocchi was very unique and tasty. beef cheeks and octopus were super tender. and the hamachi was refreshing and the perfect prelude to a great meal."

  • "Our server was very friendly and attentive, but the food did not live up to the hype, in my humble opinion. The food was either under- or over-seasoned. The pacing of the courses was great though."

  • "If you are looking for small but delicious dishes this is the place. You will not have room for desert and you should not try too"

  • "My friends and I really like food there. This is one of the best restaurant in LA to go for a diner. Amazing dishes , love it soooooo much. Thank you Ink for being so good!!!"

  • "thought it wouldn't live up to my expectations but ink surpassed them quite handily. every dish was great, and service was outstanding (thanks to our friendly waitress from Royal Oak, MI). the beef tartare, dorito corn, lollipop kale with pig ears were all unique, surprising and delicious. But our favorites were the octopus (so tender) and lamb belly (not as fatty as pork, what an awesome dish), but no complaints on anything. One of the best all-around meals I've had in a while. i wish i had room to try more."

  • "We went in our anniversary and had a good time. I loved the short ribs and my wife loved the branzino."
    Dined on 7/1/2014
  • "The food was flavorful. The manager was fantastic. Our waitress was barely seen (I got our own menus and water). The place is gloomy. The music is very loud. It was much more expensive than it should have been."

  • "We had been looking forward to dining at ink for a long time, and while the food was great. Was slightly annoyed that no one bothered to mention that the air conditioner was broken. I was extremely hot and sweaty throughout my meal. And no one offered any accommodation for the discomfort or an apology. And when I mention how comfortable I was, they had there's nothing we can do attitude. At the very least my husband's drink should have been complimentary."

  • "this place is amazing. everything we ordered was great. the mix of tastes was fantastic. banana under pork. a lot of fun. the decor is understated and has hard walls, which makes the noise bounce around a lot . . . making it louder, so if you want a quiet dinner, don't go here. the bar seems to move people in & out quickly, so if you want an amazing dinner, but don't have time, stop by the bar. seems to have the requisite mixologist, but didn't try them. we want to go back, but we'll need to save our pennies. it ain't cheap. definitely good for a really special occasion, where the noise won't interfere with the celebration. fantastic food!"

  • "Top toque creativity and flavor; rushed service and dubious hospitality."

  • "We had one and only one night in LA, so stakes were high when choosing a place to dine - Ink did not disappoint! Beautiful presentation, creative dishes, good service."

  • "This was my second time dining here. Fun,Energetic with a hip feel and crowd. Excellent staff and servers who are very knowledgeable. Amazing cocktails! You will want to try everyone! the plates are perfect size to try 1-2 dishes from each part of menu and timed so as to allow to digest and choose next course and cocktail. Easy to find with valet available and fast drop off/ pickup with Uber or taxi. I highly recommend this place foe either a first date, friendly get together or celebration."

  • "Ink is absolutely incredible. Every dish is prepared and presented like a piece of art. I love sitting at the chef's counter because you can watch them masterfully creating each dish like a segment on Top Chef. You can ask them questions to gain additional insight about the dishes they're preparing which adds to the fun. The menu items are all distinctly unique, nothing looks like you expect and everything has layers of flavors. Sample and share as many dishes as you can and make sure you try their apple dessert. The presentation and flavor is worth repeating."

  • "We drove down from Ojai to celebrate my wifes birthday after reading it was rated number seven out of one hundred and one restaurants in Los Angeles. We are also fans of Top Chef. The food was phenomenal, and the octopus was the best my wife has ever eaten. I enjoyed the lamb belly and beef cheeks. Andrew the manager personally took care of us and the service was very attentive. We would definitely go back to try the Fried Chicken Oatmeal!"

  • "Beef cheaks were under seasoned. Oatmeal and Branzino were not great. Loved the deserts."

  • "The decor is a bit hard and could use some nice artwork. The music is a bit too loud. Who cares?! The food, served as small plates, was outstanding and the service very good. Unexpected combinations initially sounded odd and a bit off-putting. Go for it! Everything was excellent, beautifully plated and often, surprising. When eating the yellowfin tuna appetizer, I took a small bit of the raw tuna with the tonnato and pickle: incredible! I literally tasted 5 layers a flavor in that one bite! I was hooked. Each plate continued to please and surprise and I'm still thinking about the charcoal potatoes. I've eaten at Joel Robuchon's in Las Vegas and, for the money and experience, would go back to Ink first. Bravo, Michael Voltaggio!"

  • "Was there with three friends and had a great time. The food was inventive but delicious and not overly complicated. Portions were perfect for sharing. Stand out the the night was the gnocchi. Try it and love it at first bite."

  • "We really enjoyed the food although some of the portions seemed very small e.g. Yellow fish tuna with shaved asparagus. Service was excellent but it was very very noisy. Too noisy. My main criticism is of the valet parking. $7 and when we left, the stand was unattended. We waited at least 3 minutes and could easily have helped ourselves to car keys etc."

  • "My boyfriend & I went here for my 30th. INK is for the adventurous omnivore, with the time to enjoy course upon course of small plates. Embracing a new decade of life, I tried -among other things- the octopus with ink pasta & the lollipop kale with creme fraiche & pigs' ears(!). The risk returned on a foodie level. While on the more expensive side, the fresh flavors, creative ingredient pairings &delicious cocktails make it worth the indulgence. Probably slightly better for a double date so that you can split the bill without feeling too full by the end of the meal. I thought the restaurant's recommendation of 3 dishes per person was 1 dish too many, with some dishes richer than the menu led you to believe. You MUST order the shortrib!!!"

  • "Everything on the menu was delicious and at it's finest. Definitely recommend the potato Pelante, wild salmon, wagyu beef cheeks and the beef tartare. A savory new taste in each dish. It was perfect."

  • "Ink is a special place. Fantastic food, wonderful service all in a casual comfortable setting. But the noise - it's too much. I under matanda the modern interiors but too much hard surfaces - the walls, the walls , the tables - noise just bounces everywhere. Maybe some area rugs or modern carpeting just to sullen the sound?"

  • "By far one of the best meals I've ever had. The innovative and creative menu from chef volaggio, is one of the best I've seen. Followed by the execution of service and plating throughout dinner really made it a top notch dining experience. Also had an extensive wine list that paired very well with the dishes. Outstanding food, outstanding wine list, outstanding service. A must for any foodie! (or for anyone for that matter)"

  • "After the initial sticker shock (chef recommends 2-3 dishes per person) we rolled up our sleeves and made the most of it -- it was our 3rd anniversary after all! I ordered the beet salad (amazing) and gnocchi (delicious but subtle flavorful) with the ginger soda to drink and he ordered the potatoes, salmon and corn (our favorite of the night) with the homemade rhubarb vanilla soda (he ordered a second, I wanted to keep one bottle and fill it with sand as a great keepsake for our trip, they wouldn't let me??) We then topped it off with the new peach/cucumber/coconut dessert, which is the best dessert I'll probably have in my life! If money was no object I'd love to go back. Amazing food."

  • "I brought my boyfriend here for his birthday. As an avid Top Chef fan, I was really looking forward to Michael Voltaggio's food. I was impressed that he was in the kitchen - this doesn't always happen with big name chefs. We had the beets, yellowfin tuna, salt & vinegar potatoes, egg yolk gnocchi & beef carpaccio. The beets were my favorite. The carpaccio had dehydrated horseradish that I loved, but was the bf's least favorite dish. The potatoes were a playful & the gnocchi was interesting, but too rich for my taste (I wish it had some greens to brighten it up). Dessert - a deconstructed apple crumble thing - was fantastic. Extremely creative & fun to eat. Overall, loved it & would definitely return for a special occasion ($200 tab)."

  • "On my second visit to Ink, I was a bit disappointed. It was my gf's birthday and I made a reservation through opentable 2 weeks in advance and asked for a good table for the occasion. We were seated right near the kitchen. We had to wait 15 minutes for our table when we arrived and they sat us outside in the common area. A server was supposed to come out and take drink orders but after 10 minutes I had to go in and ask the hostess to get the server- the server then came out in a rushed fashion and seemed a bit overwhelmed/annoyed that we had called her over. Food- The gnocci was the best, beet salad was good, but the tartare and halibut were below average. Carmel Apple desert was incredible!"

  • "Our second trip back to Ink for another exceptional meal. Every plate was delicious and creative. My only "compliant" was that the plates came to the table one right after the other (and sometime on top of another) so that our meal felt rushed. We were there to celebrate a special occassion and wanted to relax and savor the meal, so this was a bit disheartening, partculalry since the dining room was only about 2/3rds full and it didn't appear our table was needed. That said, it's a minor complaint and the service was otherwise excellent - on par with the food. Highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely return."

  • "Visited LA for one night from Orange County with my wife. Recommendation from fellow chef. Awesome meal; flavor and texture combinations were spot on. Our server was attentive, knowledgable but not overbearing. Loved the smoked salmon, octopus, pork shoulder. Appreciated the modest corkage that allowed us to enjoy a bottle we had been saving for a special dining experience."

  • "Small plates galore, each fresh with different flavors and prepared par excellence! We especially enjoyed the market vegetables, kale lollipop, and the potato dish. The smoked trout was superb as was the gem salad and the beef checks. We liked that there were lots of different food and flavor options and enjoyed dinner immensely. Service was efficient, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable about the dishes and the wine."

  • "ink is our favorite spot. The beef tartare with horseradish snow, kale pops and Apple dessert are to die for. The dishes are unique, complex and always entertaining. There are usually some new additions, but we can always rely on our old favorites. Ambiance is romantic and fun. I love going to ink."

  • "Can't speak highly enough about this place. Lots of great plates to share and everything was fabulous. Only regret was the dinner was so wonderful that we didn't save any room to try the fabulous desserts. Must go back!"

  • "This is no ordinary restaurant. The food is inventive and tasty. The layering of flavors is exquisite and the service is impeccable. The table next to ours were enjoying the mountain yam dessert and then suddenly one showed up at our table, courtesy of our neighbors. The food is so wonderful here that it makes you want to share your experience. Thank you!"

  • "I was so excited to check out this restaurant and was thrilled with the incredible service and amazing food. The food absolutely lived up to the Top Chef expectations and the knowledge that the server had of the menu was very impressive. As a chef, its such a treat to go to a restaurant where you can tell the employees are excited to be working and sharing their passion about food. We were there celebrating a birthday and they did a great job of making it a wonderful and memorable dining experience. The only downside was that chef Michael Voltaggio wasn't there that night because he was doing a press event. I guess that means I will have to go back, and I can't wait, it's totally worth another flight!!"
