Reservations a click away

January 25, 2006
Making restaurant reservations by Internet is picking up steam in Ohio. Seats at more than 30 Cleveland restaurants are a click away at www.opentable.com, and Vaccaro's Trattoria in Bath is the third Akron-area restaurant to sign up for the service.

The recent expansion of the Akron-Canton Airport has boosted reservations from business travelers, Raphael Vaccaro said. Most have laptops that they use to find local restaurants. Now they can make reservations online, too.

``I get a lot of out-of-towners and I love it,'' Vaccaro said.

Fideli in Canton and the RiverFront Restaurant in the Sheraton Suites in Cuyahoga Falls also take reservations through OpenTable, a nationwide restaurant reservation network headquartered in San Francisco. Along with making reservations, diners can access a wide range of information about the restaurants, from driving and parking directions to suggested dress and the price range of entrees.

Vaccaro's is branching out in other areas, too. The restaurant recently took over the catering operation for the banquet hall at St. Thomas Eastern Orthodox Church in Copley, and is providing upscale banquet food for weddings and parties. Also at the banquet hall, Vaccaro's will provide the food for a weekly spaghetti dinner open to the public from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays beginning Feb. 1. Proceeds will go to the church. For $6.50, attendees get spaghetti with meatballs or Italian sausage, salad and freshly made lemon ice.
