City Harvest and OpenTable.com Partner in Fight Against Hunger

June 12, 2000
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. and NEW YORK, NY. (June 12, 2000) - OpenTable.com (www.opentable.com), the online restaurant reservation network, and City Harvest, the nation's oldest and largest food rescue organization, today announced a long-term partnership in the fight against hunger. OpenTable.com and City Harvest are kicking off the partnership with an online donation drive for the month of June. Every time someone registers at OpenTable.com through June 30, a one dollar donation will be made in the name of the registrant to City Harvest. Each donation supplies enough food for one meal for a hungry child in New York City.

The program offers an easy and unique way for individuals to help City Harvest fulfill their mission to feed hungry people in New York City using a variety of innovative, practical and cost-effective methods. OpenTable.com registrants will get all of the benefits of membership in the OpenTable.com network including real-time 24-hour online access to the reservation books at hundreds of the country's best restaurants, and a unique dining rewards program that will reward them for making reservations at their favorite restaurants online.

"Today, more than one in five children in the US is at risk of going hungry", said Jeff Edwards, OpenTable.com's CEO. "At OpenTable.com, we believe it is essential that the restaurant community continue their support of the fight against hunger. We are committed to working with City Harvest to find ways to raise both awareness and funds for this worthwhile cause, and we look forward to a long relationship in support of City Harvest in their efforts to feed the hungry."

"Innovation and ingenuity have always been critical to the success of City Harvest in helping to feed hungry New Yorkers. We are thrilled that OpenTable.com has joined forces with City Harvest and are especially excited about this unique opportunity to tap into the power of the Internet to spread our mission and help feed the estimated one million hungry New Yorkers," said City Harvest's Executive Director Julia Erickson.

About City Harvest

Founded in 1982, City Harvest is America's largest and oldest food rescue program. Every day, City Harvest delivers an average of 34,000 pounds of food that would otherwise go to waste - about 12.5 million pounds last year - to food pantries, soup kitchens, day care and senior centers, homeless shelters and charitable organizations serving low-income families and individuals in New York's five boroughs. Its Hunger Hotline connects thousands of callers each month to emergency food in their neighborhoods.
