SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. and CHICAGO, Ill. (June 12, 2000) - OpenTable.com (www.opentable.com), the online restaurant reservation network, and America's Second Harvest, the nation's largest domestic hunger-relief organization, today announced a partnership in the fight against hunger. OpenTable.com and America's Second Harvest are holding an online donation drive for the month of June. For every free registration made at OpenTable.com through June 30, a $1 donation will be made in the name of the registrant to America's Second Harvest. Each donation yields 34 pounds of food, enough to feed one hungry child in the US for an entire day.
The program offers an easy and unique way for individuals to help America's Second Harvest fulfill their mission to feed hungry people, and to educate the public about solutions to ending the problem of hunger in America. In addition to the America's Second Harvest donation made in their name, OpenTable.com registrants will receive all of the benefits of membership in the OpenTable.com network including real-time 24-hour online access to the reservation books at hundreds of the country's best restaurants, and a unique dining rewards program that will reward them for making reservations at their favorite restaurants online.
"Today in the US one in five people in line at a soup kitchen is a child", said Jeff Edwards, OpenTable.com's CEO. "At OpenTable.com, we believe it is essential that the restaurant community continue their support of the fight against hunger. We are committed to working with America's Second Harvest to find ways to raise both awareness and funds for this worthwhile cause, and we look forward to a long relationship in support of America's Second Harvest in their efforts to feed the hungry."
"It's startling to think that four million children in America face hunger," said Martha Pickett, chief operating officer and vice president of programs at America's Second Harvest. "Our exciting new partnership with Opentable.com will help us spread this message to the ever-growing online audience as well as help feed more needy children."
