Diner Reviews
  • "As long as I lived in Tacoma I never be to this restaurant. Me and friend went for dinner, love the candle lit dinning. loved the décor, make you feel like you are in another place. the food was great, I had the drunken beef with rice noodles, mildly spicy and it was cooked to perfection! my friend had the orange chicken with a side rice and it was good as well. the portions are big enough to share so we did. would return to the restaurant again, I would suggest this place to anybody."

  • "The restaurant is gorgeous and in an awesome location - but other than that, I don't get the hype. We thought the food wasn't much better than your typical neighborhood Thai restaurant, the service was slow, and the prices are high."

  • "Service was great! Food is consistently good. Well worth the money. Good experience."

  • "Five of us had dinner on Friday night. Our table was ready on time, the restaurant was beautiful, the service was great, the food was great. It couldn't have been better. Maybe if there was a water front view."

  • "Overall the service was excellent and the food was divine. I'll definitely come again soon."

  • "Great ambience and fantastic food! Will certainly return for more!"

  • "We were really looking forward to eating at Indochine. The atmosphere was nice. But the food was SO disappointing. Everything was bland - the battered and fried calamari was mostly fried batter. The dipping sauces tasted like they were right out of a jar, and my chicken was so tough and dry, I could barely chew it! The "house specialty" shrimp were bland and doughy too. I would expect this kind of food from a fast food place. Worst asian food I've ever had at a restaurant."

  • "Indochine continues to provide good food and excellent ambiance. Although the quality of the food, and its associated costs, have remained consistently positive, the service quality has taken a bit of a dive. Servers do not seem to be as enthusiastic; it seems to take longer to be seated (even with a reservation) and orders to be placed, too. The most disappointing point during the most recent visit was entering through the rear parking entry after UW Tacoma campus hours. There is a call box at the door for guests to request entry. However, numerous attempts proved futile. Telephoning directly had somewhat better results: a server came to open the door ten minutes later. Walking around the block might have been faster."

  • "We've eaten here many times, and we've been happy every time with the food that we have ordered. It is a little overpriced, but I think you are paying for the ambience."

  • "I have been to Indochine once before several years ago and enjoyed it but that was not my experience this time. We made a reservation but still had to wait a bit while a group that walked in was seated right away. Our server was very busy so we waited over 15 minutes to be greeted and my husband had to get someone to find our server. He was nice but not attentive as he was running everywhere to take care of several large parties. The food was disappointing as we eat Asian cuisine regularly but didn't care for the sauces and taste of our dishes. The restroom was messy, looking like it hadn't been cleaned in a bit. in general, it lacked friendliness."

  • "I would highly recommend this restaurant, it is very authentic Thai food! I have been going to Indochine for many years and have not found better Thai food anywhere else!"

  • "Sat at a tiny table for two in a very dark area of the restaurant. had to use our cell phone flash light apps to read the menu. Others did the same. Seemed a little rushed with food since the manager/owner came out to our tables with our main course as we were eating our apps. Instead of sending our food back to get cold we just had the apps pulled and ate the entree. There would be no room for both plates on the table. Nothing special done to acknowledge our 25th wedding anniversary."

  • "The waitress at the bar on Saturday 22nd feb at around 7pm thinks when you place money for the bill the change is automatically hers wtf..... Please. Food came out cold or warm..."

  • "Excellent dinner. The restaurant got us in an hour early even on a very popular dining out weekend. Coming back for a big Birthday celebration dinner in a few weeks. BTW, she said yes after dinner."

  • "Food was very good. Had cocoanut prawns, lettuce wraps and chicken curry. Service was excellent. We enjoyed our meal celebrating a special occasion. Our only suggestion was that the prawns were almost over powered by the sweet cocoanut - but others may find it just right."

  • "The reason I gave the restaurant a 3 instead of a 2 is that I know how good they can be. We went on Valentine's Day - it was so crowded and we were put in a back room against the wall with absolutely no ambiance at all. The food was mediocre but very expensive - have no problem paying for good food and a great experience - didn't happen here. The chicken was dry in our appetizers and the main course was just okay. They expected you to be in and out in one hour so it was a really rushed feeling. I will go again because it is really cool in the main dining room and i know their food is usually wonderful - I just won't ever go on a special day like Valentine's Day."
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "I'm not sure if it was due to it being Valentine's Day, but my past experiences (foodwise) have been much more enjoyable. Our orange chicken and panang curry tasted bland. Would have preferred going to our 2nd favorite thai restaurant, but would give Indochine another chance at a different time."

  • "Turned out to be an excellent spot for an upscale business dinner. Can't wait to take my wife back when I get a chance. Just make sure you check the parking options before you go - its rather confusing and a bit of a walk from the lots or the streets in the area without short time limits."

  • "I was impressed with everything about this restaurant. Haven't been impressed in a restaurant in a while. Food was outstanding! Service was great, drinks were great, and ambience was beautiful. Look forward to the next dining experience!"

  • "Our waiter was frazzled... Totally forgot our rice and said he would bring a spice rack to the table but never did! When a party of 3 comes for a reservation never put a chair on the end (very tacky). The reservation was made well in advance."
    Dined on 1/3/2014
  • "This was a slow lunch day and this might account for a less enjoyable time than I have experienced before. The food was not very hot and seemed a bit thrown together. The wait staff were pleasant but not fully attentive. I will return assuming this was an off day."

  • "In the past, the food at Indochine on Pacific Avenue in downtown Tacoma was really something. I remember the mouthwatering Honey Walnut Prawns and other delectable items on their menu being completely unequaled anywhere in town. My recent dining experience left much to be desired. Granted, it was a busy night (New Year's Eve), but I would have thought such a well established restaurant would have planned for the overload. As it was, my Prawns were lack luster (what little cream sauce there was covered only one small area) and my dining partner's "3 star" Mongolian Beef had no spice at all. Plus, our waitress hovered so much we felt rushed and moved along in the swell of humanity dining out that night. We came away disappointed."

  • "We typically love this place, but on NYE we felt like they literally turned and burned us. got our food in 15 which felt rather rude! We felt very rushed since we hadn't even got our drinks yet. The server was short with us and the hostess was pacing back and forth and taking notes. It seemed very unprofessional. We won't be back for awhile especially if we are looking for a nice romantic night out."

  • "Indochine has been fairly consistent over the years, although in this instance, the service was clearly lacking. We were shown into the dining area and then were left unattended for several minutes while the host went back to see what tables she actually had available. Not sure what that was all about. We had multiple servers over the course of our meal who got our orders mixed up, and also served up an appetizer heaped with nuts when we had expressly requested no nuts due to a member of our party having an extreme allergy. Ugh. Not a great experience at all. If this is the way things are headed for Indochine, we'll choose elsewhere."

  • "drinks and food were wonderful. Service was good, but was a little sparse toward the end of our dining experience that night, probably due to the fact that it was so busy that night. The noise level for me was intolerable, since I am hard of hearing and rely on hearing aids to hear better. The other aspect of that night's experience was that the lighting was way too low. I am also legally blind and rely on either good lighting or the assistance of others to read the menu. My girlgriend usually helps me on reading the menu but that night, she had difficulty and she had to use a flashlight to read the menu. We'll still come to enjoy the great food, but we'll avoid the unfriendly noisy darkness on busy nights."

  • "As usual the food and service was excellent. Russell Brunton (owner/manager) is always a pleasure to see when I walk in because he always greets me and his smile is warming and welcoming. Russell always makes sure I am taken care of and that my food and experience was at its best. My partner and I always spend our Valentines dinner at Indochine every year and the owner always seats us in the same place we sat on our first Valentines day dinner."

  • "Very much enjoyed my experience here. My wife and I took my mother here fir her birthday and she was blown away! She thought the food was amazing as well as the service and atmosphere! I highly recommend anyone wanting a nice night out to check out Indochine!"

  • "Our whole experience was horrible. We ordered orange chicken and mongolian beef for our entrees and could not eat it. The mongolian beef was like little flimsy rubber pieces that jiggle. The chicken was nonexistent under the batter and the little amount you did it was dry and hard to eat. This style of food was extremely overpriced for the quality of food. We did order appetizers but those were not even memorable. On a good note our waitress was wonderful and she gave great service. We do not recommend this restaurant to anybody and we will not even give it a second chance."

  • "We had a Christmas Party that proved to be one fo the best ever. Nicole was an awesome server. The food was just right, not bland or overly spiced and apealed to the variety of guests appropriately. We just told them how many people we had and they determined a nice menu of family style food from appetizers to desert. It took all the guess work out of our planning and everyone left full and happy. Thank you for a stress free event. The price point was right on target."
