Diner Reviews
  • "This place has been around for a while, menus have changed but the overall quality of the food is still way up there. Have the.. well have anything because it's all good. That's the ultimate measure of a chef and a restaurant, IMO. Casual enough to be fun, nice enough for a special occasion. A must visit if you're in San Diego."

  • "This time was different. Over-air conditioned, mediocre service, food warm but not hot, and loud crowd was being clustered in one part of the restaurant - very annoying! Won't go back here for awhile, because there are just too many great places to eat in SD and in Little Italy."

  • "The manager and staff Amy and bus person where great to us all. Thank you for great service. We really enjoyed our birthday party gathering. We will definitley go again. I recommend this restuarant for parties and kid friendly."

  • "We enjoyed Indigo Grill so much the first time that we made it our restaurant of choice for our anniversary dinner. We both had different entrees than we did the first time and they were delicious! I had the salmon on a plank with squid ink noodles. My husband had the Pork Porterhouse and they were perfection on a plate. The meal was so enjoyable. The service was great and we love the atmosphere too. You have to try the corn pudding! Neither of our meals came with the corn pudding but we loved it so much from the first time we dined here that we had to have a side order this time too. The chef so generously shared her recipe for her Indigo Grill corn pudding on the internet and we have made it at home a couple of times. We will be back!"

  • "I travel to San Diego 3-6 times per yar and always hit up this location of Executive Chef Deborah Scott's. However, this one was disappointing. Maybe it was because it was a Monday. While the ribs and talapia were excellent, the side dishes, which are one of her claims to fame, too, were not. Beans were undercooked and flavorless, and one of the places signature dishes, the cornbread, was dry. Pear salad nothing special either. Until this experience, I had never had a bad meal there, but now I will think twice about returning for that kind of money for food and wine. There were not many tables eating in the place, but our server was nowhere to be found."

  • "I had an important client coming in from out of town and brought them to your restaurant. The server was very attentive while allowing us enough space to have our meeting. Made for a great experience"

  • "Our group of four reserved for a Saturday at 6 PM. The server ordered our lovely appetizer of pipian-crusted Brie with condiments while we perused the menu. My husband and I shared the grilled romaine salad and kaffir lime duck plate. Each menu item easily serves two. The salad was excellent and interesting, my favorite dish. The duck was nicely charred but without notes of the stated kaffir lime to my taste; its accompanying goat cheese risotto cake and spinach salad nice contrasts in texture and taste. I would have appreciated the server's describing the condiments. I had to ask three different servers for the draft beer I had ordered, receiving it far into the meal; and we were brought the wrong bill."

  • "I loved the crisp modern decor, the staff greeted you with a warm smile, we asked for a larger table and they were gracious. The waitress assisted us greatly with the menu. What a great surprise, the food was fantastic and unique. Since in Little Italy, I was thinking Italian food but it was anything but. A GREAT FIND!"

  • "We had a great meal this past weekend and the service was excellent! The last time we were there it wasn't so great but the menu seems to have improved and the food was awesome exactly what I remembered Indigo Grill to be like. Maybe they got a new chef...not sure....but it was much improved from the last mean I had there."

  • "It's not your regular menu...Indigo Grill adds creativity and style to a corn tamale and pork ribs. The serviings were enough to share and to try others items on the menu. Very nice wine list."

  • "My family went here for my Mom's birthday on a Friday night. We had the brie appetizer, which was delicious. For main dishes, we had the trout, the pipian rojo chicken, the filet, and Good Things Growing (a vegetarian option.) Everybody loved their food, but the indian corn pudding (part of the vegetarian dish) was a favorite of everyone. Service was also great. Attentive, but not overwhelming. My only negative comment would be that our first bottle of red wine was not the wine that we ordered. We didn't realize it at first, so asked the waiter about it. He said he would comp us a bottle, but didn't. We enjoyed both wines, so it wasn't a big deal. It's pricey, which is why I say this is good for special occasions, but delicious."

  • "I've dined at the indigo Grill many times when I lived downtown. My son loved the ribs, which are the dry type, and I liked the trout. I went back last weekend with a date and I wanted the trout again, but since she ordered it, I got the filet mignon. The steak was terrific, and since I love green chili, that was a bonus. But the trout was no longer the browned, delicious fish the restaurant used to serve. It was soggy and lacked the crisp flakyness I recalled. The red wines we had, a Cab and a Malbec, were very nice. Overall, the restaurant has slipped a notch in the year since I last went there."

  • "Quality of food was great. We went there on Saturday, restaurant was very visited, some tables were occupied twice per evening. Restaurant is popular. Ambient could be more upscale."

  • "Indigo Grill never disappoints! Food and service are top notch. Dining room is starting to feel a lil dated but it's still one of my all time favorite restaurants in San Diego!"

  • "We were wanting to go somewhere close to home, downtown, but it was Fat Tuesday & the Mardi Gras was going on in the Gaslamp. We drove by Ingigo Grill Sunday and said "we haven't been there in a long time, actually four or five years". Well our wait was far too long. We had both forgotten how good the service and most especially the food were. We had the tortilla and squash soups (a cup each) that were delicious and the presentation outstanding. For entrees she had the pork ribs and I the filet mignon. The ribs were tender as was the steak, both cooked perfectly. The other items paired on the plates were unique and well seasoned. We will be back soon and won't stay in the future. A great meal, especially the leftovers."

  • "We took our grown children for dinner. Everyone was pleased. The menu is so varied that there is something that everyone likes. Pretty reasonable price wise, especially given the portion sizes. Everything was large enough to share. It was quite crowded and pretty noisy, but we had a great meal and service was good."

  • "Indigo Grill really knows how to wine and dine their guest. It's like they are taking YOU on a date. For starters you must get the crusted brie. Here's your first bite, break off a piece of bread, spread some brie, mole, tamarind, and cotija. Second bite, break off a piece of bread, spread some roasted garlic, add a slice of the grilled nopales, brie, tamarind, and cotija. Third bite...you're on your own! The combinations are endless, and you'll be sad when it's all gone. But by then, your entree is on it's way out. My go to entree is the pork porterhouse, a giant succulent pork chop, with smoky mashed sweet potatoes, fried onions and a spicy sweet smokey glaze to pull it all together, each bite is intoxicating!"

  • "Eve was a very conscientious waitress. A part of Little Italy San Diego without an Italian name. The food and drinks were original and delicious."

  • "A great meal. We had friends visiting from England who loved the Flat Iron Chimichuri and the Pecan Encrusted Trout was incredible as always. The decor is modern, lovely, and warm. The entire staff was terrific and the manager was charming when he came to make sure everything was going well. A wonderful evening that helped us show off San Diego to our guests."

  • "Everything was amazing. We had the Brie, Beet salad, Duck and Fire and Ice desert. The chef came by half way through our meal to see if everything was to our liking, service was top-notch and this remains my favorite restaurant in San Diego."

  • "We live nearby and whenever we have guests, Indigo Grill is ALWAYS on the list to go to. The service, wine list, food and the elaborate delivery with the ambiance is always a hit with everyone. The best deal and best tasting desert is the Chocolate Caueta Vulcan - to die for!"

  • "Food was so amazing. My only critique would be that dinner felt very rushed. Almost as if the wait staff was hovering. I understand the need to turn tables on a holiday but guests shouldn't feel it."

  • "Really good experience, food very good and service great. However, If you are just a couple the seating is bad, small tables just inches from others, something I would expect in a casual chinese food restaurant. We got there early and talked our way into a bigger table, others later we not so lucky. Parties of 4 or more get bigger tables or booths. A great place like this should fix their seating for couples, should be more intimate and not crammed together...."

  • "I made reservations 3 weeks in advance through Open Table, stating that it was my husband's birthday. Usually, when I do that, we are greeted when we go there with "Happy Birthday" or the hostess will say "I understand you're celebrating a birthday." Not this time, which was fine. We had a fabulous dinner as always, and our waiter Miguel asked if we wanted a dessert, and I said, "It's his birthday, so yes, I want him to get a dessert." Miguel said, "Oh I didn't know, no one told me, I'm so sorry." I told him not to worry about it, we ordered the chocoate vulcan, which is also my husband's favorite. Miguel paid for the dessert, which I told him he didn't have to do, but he insisted. So generous of him, and he was so nice."

  • "Indigo Grill had a varied and interesting menu, and good size portions. The waiter handled the eight of us well and everyone loved the plates they ordered. Well worth a trip to Little Italy to dine here. Parking on the street is an issue, however there is valet parking available at the restaurant and a few public lots also. We will be coming back to dine here again soon."

  • "I had wanted to try Indigo Grill for a long time and find got there during San Diego Restaurant Week in January. Very enjoyable evening. The best part was a brie appetizer with several tasty components. I'd go there again, just for that appetizer. The only negative was rather slow service, with a server apparently distracted. She'd disappear for long stretches; we thought maybe she went home and forgot to tell us! Nevertheless, I do recommend trying Indigo, if you haven't already."
