- Authentic Indian FoodOpenTable Diner Since 2011Dined on 8/30/2014The restaurant was filled with Indians, which we took as a good sign We had the chicken tikka, dal, and spinach alook. Safron rice and two nans (garlic and masaman). Yum! The spinach dish was a bit bland, but we didn't ask for the food spicy. Next time! Service was terrific and food came out promptly.Special Features:I would recommend this to a friend.
- Tasty but priceyMBS58Dined on 8/22/2014The menu prices have gone up quite a bit since we last dined at India House. Can't justify paying $16 for a bowl of mashed eggplant and spices. The vegetable dishes are way overpriced consider they cost about the same was the meat dishes. The food is good but we have never had to wait so long for our entrées to arrive. It was about 40 minutes and the restaurant was not busy. The other detractor was two very noisy children who were disturbing everyone. Their mother doing nothing but texting on her cellphone the whole time.
- DisappointedOpenTable Diner Since 2012Dined on 8/15/2014Compared to few years ago, quality of food has worsened a lot!
- AnchieVIPDined on 8/15/2014There were 5 of us in our party and an 18% tip was added to the bill. We have eaten at India House at least 25 times in the past few years and this is a first. We're used to a mandatory tip added when there are 6 or more in the party but certainly not 5. Good thing we checked the bill before adding an additional tip. Also, 18% tip calculated on AFTER TAX amount meaning we were paying tip ON the tax. This is not appropriate.Special Features:
- Our favorite Indian restaurantNuklericDined on 8/8/2014Great food, plenty of room for larger groups, valet parking, tender tandori, tasty naan, curries and masalas all very good.Special Features:

- Good Indian food, nice owner/mgrMeganjDined on 7/27/2014Good Indian food and a nice owner/manager. Mediocre/poor waitstaff service. Food did not appeal to our children, might to othersSpecial Features:I would recommend this to a friend.
- Good food but the not good serviceRobbstarkDined on 7/20/2014The server didn't find us the right seat that we were looking for inspite of the fact that the place was 70% empty. And he was rude. Food was good but no one appreciates it if not treated well.Special Features:I would recommend this to a friend.
- Excellent Food!luv2gooutDined on 7/17/2014Excellent food and ambiance. Clean. Warm setting. Fast service.Special Features:I would recommend this to a friend.
- Portion sizeDeanDined on 6/9/2014The portions are large. We should have ordered on item and shared it. Perhaps the wait staff might suggest this option.Special Features:
- It's okluv3dieDined on 6/9/2014I'm not a big fan of Indian cuisine but my friends wanted some. So, one of my friends suggested India House which she raves about the food all the time. One of my friends brought her young children who ordered from the kids menu and provided a high chair for her youngest. I didn't get much of a guide in regards to the menu from our server. I had chicken kabob and there were other smaller plates on the table to share with my companions.Special Features:I would recommend this to a friend.
- Overall good but not 5*ReviewerVIPDined on 6/7/2014We've been going to India House for the last 8 years and it's consistently been the best Indian food in town. I'm cutting them a little slack but our most recent experience involved a number of service hiccups. The food is still solid but it's not the 5* experience it's been in the past two-three years. We'll be back and will hope that they get back to their best Indian restaurant in town ways.Special Features:I would recommend this to a friend.
- LNTLDined on 6/6/2014They had a big list of things to pick from. But didn't have much to pick from for guten free dairy free. My food was very good and would go back to eat the same thing. (Since I only have 2 choices). However, the service was very bad and so was the drinks. Would go out of my way to dine there again.Special Features:I would recommend this to a friend.
- WomanOverboardVIPDined on 6/5/2014Didn't like the room we were seated in. It was away from everything and our group was only five. There were plenty of seats in the main dining room, so it seemed if the OT reservation was the catalyst. The buffet as always was stellar with lots of options and cooked well. One of our party did not partake, because she has peanut allergies. The server was nice enough to continuously go back to the kitchen and ask the chef regarding menu options.Special Features:
- Not Up to Usual StandardsOpenTable Diner Since 2012Dined on 6/1/2014As always, India House remains a favorite for us;however, their needlessly complex service pattern left one of the items which I ordered not to be delivered. The food was adequate, but not up to its usual excellent standards. Principally, our issue was with the service in terms of its consistency and failure to complete our order. Although we had service complaints, our server displayed the complete understanding of the menu and its offerings which we find to be commendable (and for me, necessary).Special Features:
- Great placeRimbalzinaDined on 5/31/2014The indian restaurant i was looking for in chicago. Excellent food and service!I would recommend this to a friend.
- Don't like new ambienceAnchieVIPDined on 5/31/2014Restaurant was completely redone a year or so ago. Even with a reservation requesting the front room they tried to seat us in the back room. The temperature was at least 90 degrees and we refused to be seated there. Finally we were seated in the front room but next to a party of 8 or 9 young women. They practically screamed at one another, unbelievably loud laughing, etc. We could not converse with our dinner partners at all. Since the redo, the restaurant is much noisier in general. The food is wonderful but I'm not sure we will return due to the very unpleasant atmosphere.Special Features:
- My favorite Indian resto!suijurisVIPDined on 5/27/2014They have tons of dishes in their menu. Tandoori Chix rocks as well as Lamb Madras. The okra is also really good. You should try their tandoori breads. The sesame naan and Paneer Kulcha are addictive!Special Features:I would recommend this to a friend.
- Great Indian FoodSalinas2carmelDined on 5/24/2014India House is a fantastic restaurant with excellent food, wonderful service, and reasonable prices. My family and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and we will be back.Special Features:I would recommend this to a friend.

- Best Indian food in ChicagoleepersmomDined on 4/26/2014Despite a bit of difficulty communicating with servers and waitstaff the menu is extensive, atmosphere pleasant and food extremely delicious.Special Features:
- Good food, quiet and comfortableFleetboatDined on 4/25/2014The restaurant decor is attractive, the seating comfortable, and it never got noisy. The wine list is rather limited, but serviceable. Our party selected both individual vegetarian dishes and from among the house dinners which include a choice a salad or soup, nan, and lentils (served family style). The dinner choices are dominated by Tandoori dishes and the selection we had (fish, lamb, chicken) were excellent. The salad (mixed greens served with a house dressing) was OK but the soups (tomato basil and lentil) were judged very good. Dinner prices were in the $25-$35 range. The servings were plentiful, so much so that we ended taking about 1/2 away with us. Service was attentive if not overly friendly (no "My name is...").Special Features:
- Bad SpotGreatVIPDined on 4/18/2014Overrated food and service go to Gaylord for better food and service
- Is it slipping?ChicagoanVIPDined on 4/10/2014India House has been our favorite Indian restaurant but we had a very disappointing meal. A new chef? The sauces lost all their subtle-yet-complex flavors.
- the food always great butjoseDined on 3/23/2014the food always great but the service just so so !!!I would recommend this to a friend.
- A perennial favoriteBelQDined on 3/21/2014This was the second time I'd been to India House for the lunch buffet since they opened after the-awaited renovations were completed. As always, the lunch buffet choices did not disappoint. One of the things I always appreciate about India House is that they are not afraid to spice some of the items at the buffet at the 'medium' level, which means I don't have to order a la carte if I am in the mood for extra heat. Of course, the majority of food is mild to medium to appeal to most palettes, but this is undoubtedly one of the reason this establishment is so popular with my Indian friend and me.Special Features:
- Great place, great ambiancevwalker89Dined on 3/19/2014My s.o. and I enjoyed a visit to this establishment in mid March 2014. This was by far our favorite place in Chicago. We left stuffed, but wished we didn't eat that day so we could have had more! We had an awesome server who was able to recommend dinner choices and wine pairings as well. Great looking place and worth the price. Enjoy this excellent dinning experience, I believe they offer buffet at lunch, but not dinner.Special Features:I would recommend this to a friend.
- Passage to IndiaChicagoFoodieVIPDined on 3/15/2014A very nice menu with many dishes not found in other Chicago Indian places and some seasoned quite wll, that is hot, not toned down. I had the lamb chops, burned mouth but worth every tear. My wife had the mixed grill, good but some of the chicken a bit dried out. So given the few choices in the area, India House should be on the top of list.Special Features:I would recommend this to a friend.
- Server rushed through order,OpenTable Diner Since 2010VIPDined on 3/14/2014Server rushed through order, brought a few wrong dishes, water always waiting to be refilled. I know it was a busy Friday night, but the ambiance had an overall chaotic feel, the service inattentive and distracted. Good thing the food surpasses all- excellent and mouth-watering Indian cuisine!I would recommend this to a friend.
- First Time and Very GoodBobLVIPDined on 3/14/2014Took a friend to India House for a birthday lunch. I had not been to the restaurant before. The buffet had a huge selection of dishes to try. I was surprised to find a sizzling dish of chicken at our table when we returned from the buffet. The food was very good. Some spicy dishes. I will go back.Special Features:I would recommend this to a friend.
- Classic gemcoffeenteaDined on 2/26/2014Previously dined here before the remodel. Modern design. Food still delicious. Does not disappoint. Dinner is pricey but entrees include soup, dal, rice and naan, so worth it. Huge menu can be daunting for new diners.Special Features:I would recommend this to a friend.
- We very much enjoyed the qualityOpenTable Diner Since 2002Dined on 2/24/2014We very much enjoyed the quality of the food and the friendly server.Special Features:I would recommend this to a friend.
- Truly outstandingDybbukDined on 2/21/2014Everything we ordered here was outstanding. They start you off with complimentary little bread strips and a very tasty dipping sauce. The chai was rich and perfectly spiced. The dahi aloo poori was complex and fascinating. That was a new dish to me and it was a wonderful mix of different flavors. The least standout dish was the hyderabadi curry, and that was still delicious and unique, as I had never had anything quite like it before. The bread was brought to us immediately after it came off the oven and was hot, rich and buttery. The absolute star of the evening was the palak paneer. I have never had palak that fresh and flavorful. I highly recommend this restaurant and look forward to trying more things on their menu.Special Features:I would recommend this to a friend.
- Fresh BuffetveggiechicagoVIPDined on 2/21/2014Everything was great, wished there was saag and chana on the buffet. The meat eaters seemed happy. All the items were fresh and not over cooked. Excellent service as well. Will definitely go back for team lunches - everyone was full!Special Features:
- Delicious and Beautifully RenovatedSGEatsVIPDined on 2/20/2014I had a great dinner at India House last week. The chicken tikka and tandoori mixed grill were both delicious. I was impressed by the wine list. It may initially look like India House is a little pricier than some other Indian restaurants, but rice and naan are included with each entrée, making the prices the same as the spots I like on Devon Street. They recently renovated and the restaurant is beautiful. It fits in with the other trendy restaurants in River North. I would definitely go on a date there or go with colleagues.Special Features:I would recommend this to a friend.
- delish!rpmdinerDined on 2/1/2014We loved our food, the good service and the atmosphere. Would definitely come back.Special Features:I would recommend this to a friend.
- Pricey but worth itReviewer12675Dined on 1/21/2014This place is not cheap, but it serves amazing food, and the free naan takes a bit of the sting out. Portions are generous - my paneer makhani had more chunks of paneer than I've gotten at any other Indian restaurant.Special Features:I would recommend this to a friend.
- Best Indian buffet, but priceyjcc813VIPDined on 1/12/2014The food is still great, but I'm not a big fan of the new decor. Reminds me of a hotel restaurant, and I hate that they added a big screen TV (is it so hard for Chicago diners to go out for a meal and NOT have to watch a game??). Also, the mango lassi is way overpriced at $5+ and not the freshest that I've had.I would recommend this to a friend.
- Excellent!!! Will now be aAuntieSpecialVIPDined on 12/28/2013Excellent!!! Will now be a regular!!! Great evening with friends who had already discovered India House and were too glad to join us there again...Special Features:I would recommend this to a friend.
- Delicious Indian FoodMeeTooVIPDined on 12/27/2013A large selection of dishes to accomadate taste...we ate vegetarian dishes, spinach and eggplant, which burst with many flavors to make your pallet dance. The naan was equally a nice companion with fluffy tempered rice.I would recommend this to a friend.
- New look, same great food.GregDined on 12/27/2013This was our first visit since the renovation was completed. The decor is much more elegant now and the entire space is less cluttered. We sat in the front of the house and could not see the whole room, but it looks like all the booths have been removed. India House is a good choice for our family of four because of the diversity of options on the menu. The tandoori grill was excellent - as is everything that comes out of the tandoori pots. Others in our group are much more interested in the sauced dishes like the vindaloos. Our daughter was happy with the vegan choices and settled on a soup and a korma. We also liked the new naan wedges and cream sauce as a bread course. My only mild complaint is that the servers struggle with English.Special Features:I would recommend this to a friend.
