A word from In Riva
In Riva is the first venture by Philadelphia-born chef Arthur Cavaliere who has combined the similarities of his two favorite cities—Naples and Philadelphia—to deliver an unparalleled culinary experience. Sticking with the Italian translation of its name, In Riva is located "along the banks" of the Schuylkill River in East Falls.

In Riva is a Southern Italian inspired restaurant with urban flair, specializing in Napoletana style pizza, house-made pasta and contemporary antipasti. In Riva also offers an eclectic array of new and old world wines, Italian craft beers and racy specialty cocktails.

  • "This is probably the 6th time I've eaten here, but my first brunch! Their good is always fabulous--one of the best pizza restaurants in the city in my opinion. Their salads are fab too and the staff is always nice. Fun ambiance, great beer and wine list. Love it!"

  • "This is an upbeat spot. The food was absolutely delicious! The Plates are VERY small. We were 5 and had to shout throughout the entire meal to be heard. The Appetizer of artichokes was outstanding, we never received our bruschetta. The tuna pizza is tuna fish from a can? or something similar...that was a huge disappointment. The scallop appetizer is out of this world but at $7 a scallop, way over priced for this cyclist! Would be willing to eat here again at a table away from everyone and if someone else was paying! The is a great place for outdoor dining for cyclist and runners along the path! Although we did not eat outside, I assume it would be quieter! HELLO?!?!?!?!?! the Noise level...unacceptable should be listed vs "energetic""

  • "Pleasant for casual dining. Good pizza and small plates."

  • "Had a reservation, but still had to wait for a table. We ended up seated outside which was nice. The food was truly a foodie's playground. Lots of interesting flavors that complimented and contrasted each other. My biggest complaint was service. Server didn't smile once, seemed annoyed when we asked for her recommendations, and just didn't seem like she wanted to be there. We had the arugula and mushroom salad, fried artichoke, octopus, broccoli pizza, and mushroom zucchini pizza. All soooo delicious!"

  • "We have been to In Riva twice now, and although it seems like many of the waiters were different than last time, the food was still great. We had the artichokes, bacon wrapped scallops, gnocchi, and polpette pizza. All were delicious! I would definitely recommend trying this place out if you have not been. They have a great patio space with an outdoor bar. The only negative is the minimal parking in the lot (and it's tight), but we were able to get a spot this time."

  • "Give yourself over to the tasting menu. The 3 item is more than enough, especially if you have more than a couple people dining with you. You'll try everything, you'll love it!"

  • "I visited the restaurant with my friend for "girlfriend time". We were both disappointed in the food as we expected dishes with more seafood than a few scallops and anchovies. I suppose if you are a vegetarian this menu is very good. We did enjoy the Arugula salad and whipped ricotta appetizer. Our server TJ was very responsive and attentive in his service. He had suggesed that we purchase a carafe of wine as it would be more cost effective, but we subsequently learned after receiving the bill that he had omitted telling us about happy hour (5pm reservation) where it would have been cheaper to purchase wine by the glass. That was very diappointing. I would not recommend on the food, but the ambiance was nice."

  • "Food is great, and the drinks hit the spot. Found this place last year and have been back many times. Great pizza."

  • "Went with 5 other people and we all decided to get the 3 course chef tasting dinner for $30/each. The waiter told us that it was the best deal b/c with 6 of us, we would really get to try a little bit of many different options. That was an understatement. the food just kept on coming and it was all thoughtfully presented and very, very tasty. Good/reasonable drink options as well. Great service."

  • "I ate here when it first opened and left a review that the food was too salty (each dish). Tried again and this was no longer an issue. We tried some of the same dishes (the crispy artichokes) and some new. The vasi is still my recommendation for anyone who eats here."

  • "I took my mom and our family friend out for her birthday dinner to In Riva and we had a fantastic time. We started out with a carafe of the Bianca, a drink made with sparkling wine, vodka and grapefruit sorbet. It was refreshing and delicious, so much so that we ordered another. We then ate our way through the majority of the antipasti selections. The standout, by far, was the charred octopus. The octopus itself was tender and the sauce it came with was downright outstanding. We could've easily polished off 3 orders. All in all, there was nothing that was a disappointment and I would happily go back."

  • "This was my third time to In Riva. The first time we ate off the summer menu which was delicious. I could not wait to return. My last two visits, the menu changed. The food was just okay. The restaurant was trying too hard to make an interesting winter menu which was mediocre. This past week, I did not enjoy one thing I ordered and the food came out cold. I had a reservation and although there was no one editing, it took the server a good 15 minutes to come over. I would only recommend this place to people in the summer who want to fine outside or by the river. It is also a good meeting spot"

  • "My goal when traveling for business is to avoid national chains and experience locally-owned, My only disappointment was, upon arrival, finding there was no table available. Considering I made the Open Table reservation 1.5 hours prior to a 7:00 arrival, I felt others could have been seated at the bar, which was what we were offered. After turning down the initial seating option, the staff found us a table promptly. After reading other reviews, I ordered the artichoke with lemon yogurt sauce appetizer; the sauce was amazing, My colleague and I shared two pasta dishes, both were very good, I particularly enjoyed the lamb with black olives.the prices were reasonable, the wait staff attentive and personable."

  • "Excellent restaurant....fit for foodies:) Lots of different dishes.......small plates that we enjoyed sharing. We loved this place so much we were looking at the menu when we finished to see what we will order next time. Also an excellent server....friendly and informative"

  • "The Arugula & Mushroom salad was awesome - good for sharing. Ordered 2 kinds Vasi (bruschetta) - Whipped Ricotta (fig & ricotta - yum) & tomato basil (was too tart); too many thick sliced of toast. The Crispy Artichokes were good, but the lemon yogurt was too tart again. The fingerling potatoes (without the jambon jam) were too good. The 2 pastas Wild mushroom ravioli & Pea agnolotti were too similar - our server should have recommended another pasta. I loved the Margherita pizza, but again my hubby found it tart. The Affagato dessert was a huge disappointment compared to Pizzeria Vetri."

  • "This is a great restaurant from the food to the service and design of the restaurant. Also my wife and I are from the midwest and to see a parking lot outside this restaurant is a glorious thing! Oh, and its bike friendly if you ride up off the schuykill river trail, which I love!"

  • "Everything I've eaten there has been awesome! The Burrata pizza is my favorite. Our server, TJ, was so pleasant, attentive, and informative, as were all of the staff members we encountered. We love everything about this place!"

  • "We have been here several times now & I have to say, I have LOVED it every time BUT, for some reason it was even BETTER this time! Really! I didn't even think it could get better & it did! The octopus app was AMAZING! Crispy & tender with a delicious sauce... pastas: GREAT! Salads:GREAT! Mushroom Pizza: AMAZING! Jordan, our server: FANTASTIC! We will be back!!"

  • "In Riva has reliably fantastic wood oven pizza with fresh, delicious toppings, and a great selection of salads and appetizers to round out the meal. I've come here for brunch, lunch and dinner and always enjoyed the meal. On a crowded night, the noise level at dinner is pretty intense, so just forewarned that it's not a quiet place on a weekend night. But food is a great, and the setting by the river is special and fun. Service has always been reliable."

  • "This place was recommended by a friend and I am glad we gave it a chance! I had some family in town and we were looking for a nice relaxed place to get some good food and drink some beers while we caught up and this place was perfect! The food was fantastic and our waiter was very knowledgable and helpful. Took off a star because we had a reservation but still had to wait 15-20 min for a table. Try this place!"

  • "This restaurant has fun hip ambiance, and we had great service. We ordered a salad w mushrooms it was interesting but not great. We ordered the meatballs they were very tasty. The pizza the crust was crispy and delicious. I would come back and try some other dishes. overall the dishes we ordered were complex mixed with ingredients you may not expect or really like put together it was italian meets isreali food. We will try again. Dessert was great espresso and gelato!"

  • "We heard about this restaurant from a friend and we were looking for a new place to try. The service was outstanding and we loved the food. Can't wait to go back when the weather is nicer so we can eat outside."

  • "Light Italian with pizza and pasta - food was good, service excellent - but crowded (this was Saturday night at 6:30) and NOISY! Dark but open table near kitchen which might be fun and looks like semi outdoor dining in nice weather."

  • "This was our second visit. Had Pizza the first time. Pasta recently was really mediocre. Service mixed"

  • "I LOVE the fresh pea soup. The pizza special was extremely tasty and the beer pairing seemed appropriate. We enjoyed the caesar salad, too. All the food was gobbled up. Can't wait to return. Young families, couples, groups, singles all represented."

  • "We had a great meal, all 6 of us. Although a little noisy, the service was very courteous and the food wonderful. We chose the chef selection and we had more than enough food, actually, it kept coming. Price is good although we found the wine list a little pricy. It is a great spot for casual dining with an "edge"."

  • "Our Valentines Day meal at In Riva was just we were looking for! We were sat at the exact time if our reservation. Even though we were at a long table with couples on either side of us, it wasn't so tight that we were uncomfortable. Service was casual, attentive yet not nearly overbearing. The olive oil potatoes were to die for. Scallops were cooked perfectly. We stuck with a pretty basic pizza (pepperoni), but it was well-executed. The Neapolitan-style dough has an almost pancake-like quality, and I mean that in the best possible way! We never felt rushed, despite the fact that it was Valentine's Day and in sure they had reservations after ours. Overall a great meal!"

  • "Having gone out for 2 dozen dates at In Riva, several group dinners with friends, and a meal with my aunt and uncle, I'm happy to report that this restaurant provides a superlative experience every time, with friendly, knowledgeable staff, twists on Italian classics, and post-industrial ambience on the banks of the Schuylkill River. Though I'm lucky to live in East Falls, where the restaurant's located, In Riva is worth the trip for those who live elsewhere. There's room for every Mediterranean palate and dietary preference. Go for dinner, but don't miss brunch and the seven fish dinner around Christmas. Dine inside in the winter, but eat outside and watch the geese when it's warm enough. I've never had a mediocre meal here. Viva In Riva!"

  • "This was our second visit and we enjoyed it as much as our first dinner. We met my sister who hasn't lived in Philly for 20 years and she was very pleasantly surprised by the development of the neighborhood and the quality of the food at In Riva. We also brought our teenage son who can be a bit picky in his food choices. He really enjoyed the varied choices."

  • "With a great and shifting lineup of creative pizzas and a terrific line up of Italian dishes, In Riva has become a favorite spot for us. Wait staff are well trained and knowledgeable. Always a treat. And the pricing is very reasonable. I would highly recommend that you give In Riva a visit and enjoy the view of the river near Falls Bridge along Kelly Drive."

  • "We did the 3 course special for $30 each person which gave us a huge selection of interesting surprises - dishes picked by chef. Everything was delish, even the tenderloin tartar which we wouldn't have ordered on our own. Great Italian beer selection."

  • "In Riva is our go-to for gourmet pizza. Service is always outstanding and the beer list is always solid with some great craft brews,"
    Dined on 1/29/2014
  • "The food was mediocre (at best) and very expensive taking both quality and quantity into consideration. I also thought the wine was overpriced. "Small plates" often means extra profit for the restaurant, because the quantity is much less but the price is only slightly reduced."

  • "I've really had great diing experiences when I've gone for dinner. First time with brunch and I woudn't do it again. The omlette with lamb and salmon pizza were very salty. The generous portion of " lamb" folded into my omlette was mostly fat, so I literally had a mound of it on my plate when I finished. My friend ordered ths same thing, but his was fine. They did take it off the bill, so that was reasonable compensation. My husband ordered the waffle with nutela and carmelized bananas, wihich was good."
