"Went for a birthday dinner... experience started out well and quickly deteriorated. To cite a few examples: lighting was blinding, service was absolutely terrible (had to wait for one individual's food for 8-10 minutes past when everyone else was served and dessert order was incorrect). Manager was responsive and apologized, however the server continued his ineptness - the worst we have had in NY in ages. On the positive side - the space is beautiful and the food was fairly good."

"I'm not one to write reviews, ever! However, we went here on Tuesday night for the 2nd time since they opened and LOVED it as much as I did the 1st time (although I was concerned because there were several reviews that were not great). The atmosphere is unique and beautiful, the food was AMAZING....every morsel! The service was the only real concern - it was ok, not great. They were very nice, very accommodating, yet not always very available. However, the food and atmosphere made up for the service that wasn't always available."

"My husband and I were joined by 2 other couples for dinner. Overall we enjoyed our evening but with 2 criticisms. Our waitress explained that plates were designed to be shared and although she was lovely she did not give accurate information regarding the amount of people each dish would feed. The portion sizes are pretty small (the small plates very much so) and, for example, a scallop dish we ordered had 5 scallops - well let us know so we can add more. We would have been happy to pay extra. At most restaurants that boast a "sharing" menu, the waitstaff advises you as to what and how much to order. Also, for a "sharing" style menu the table was VERY small and we/the staff had to keep moving things around to put dishes down."

"We had read the negative review in the New York Times (shortly before we came to the restaurant) and we had seen the photoes (when we decided to order a table) - (As we are Europeans) my son came to the conclusion that the reviewer must be used to the American way of spices (sometimes too much for our taste). We liked especially the two salads we selected - what a composition!!! and , of course our entrees and deserts. We think the Imperial is an excellent variety of Manhattan's restaurant scene.
Yes, and the remark about the interior - this is what attracted us to choose the restaurant we liked it."

"I have had the opportunity to experience this magnificent restaurant during the day and at night...While each offers a completely different experience, one is not less gratifying than the other. I would definitely recommend Imperial No. 9 to anyone by all means, do NOT miss the ice cream and popcorn dessert!"

"The food was excellent, the atmosphere was relaxing - quiet and very spacious - and at the same time cozy. Perfect subdued lighting, small trees and with a lof of glass objects for decoration, recreating an imaginary greenhouse in the middle of NYC. The personnel was also very friendly. Just a minor critic regarding the dishes that came in the wrong order."
