Diner Reviews
  • "Tables too close to others, my dinning experience is best described as awkward..."

  • "A romantic setting for excellent Lebanese food. Large selection of items for Restautant week on their menu, attentive service and overall great experience. Only drawback: Their wine selection leaves something to be desired."

  • "This was my second time to dine at ilili since 2012 summer. It seemed that the quality, taste and presentation of food got degraded. Elegance of service and ambience also seemed to have gone. The pricing of Lebanon wines were still reasonable and generous. The dishes of cauliflower and steak tartar were good. Lamb shank was ok."

  • "We went here for restaurant week. Since it was just the 2 of us, we were seated upstairs which should have been romantic but I was really looking forward to dining in their main dining hall with the beautiful architecture. The food was great though and although quite a bit in quantity, felt pretty light. The only thing I didn't care for much was the walnut dip-mouhamara. Loved the hoummus and the cauliflower appetizers. I would definitely go back here again!"

  • "Although the food was good, I was a little disappointed by ilili since it is yen most expensive Lebanese restaurant in the city and I had better Lebanese food elsewhere"

  • "If you like Middle Eastern food this place is for you. Every dish was exquisite. We ordered a wide selection of shared appetizers, rather than individual main courses. It was plenty of food and great to taste several dishes. Good wine selection. We picked a Lebanese rosè. One less positive observation: The host was off-putting. There were 5 place settings at our round table and 4 of us. As he was about to walk away I pointed that out. "Yes", he responded. I said "But there is only 4 of us". He repeated "Yes". To which I responded. "And you are not going to remove the extra setting?". Precious little host responded: "No, someone else is coming to do it". I grabbed the extra setting and threw it on a small serving table nearby. ATTITUDE!"

  • "ilili has been on my 'foodie' list for months now, but it was always slightly above my budget. With the restaurant week deal, I was able to pay $38 for a 3 course dinner (2 appetizers, 1 entree, and 1 dessert), which in my opinion is a GREAT deal. My friend and I made dinner reservations for 7pm, but ended up getting there around 6 just so we could take advantage of happy hour. Drinks were good, strong; I highly recommend 'With Passion, from Beirut". Definitely one of the best! For dinner, these are the dishes that I would definitely recommend: Lamb Hommus Falafel Kale Fattoush Moussaka Chicken Shish Taouk Branzino Ashta Labne Cheesecake The seating was cozy and the service was great."

  • "Overall very satisfying Restaurant Week experience. Service started a bit disjointed, including long seating queue for people with reservations (1 hostess that appeared new, plenty of staff standing idle) and hunting down servers. The dining room was also inconsistent, with the ground floor definitely being more attractive than the second floor. The bar scene is quite vibrant and would be great for an energetic pre-date (since it is a bit loud). That said, the food does shine through. The appetizers and tasting dishes are truly the gems at this restaurant. The chicken liver, beef tartar, arnabeet mekle (cauliflower) were phenomenal. We were basically sopping them all up. Portions were great for sharing and each person gets 2!"

  • "I've been here twice, both times for Restaurant Week. I have a lot of dietary restrictions, and they were able to accomodate all my needs. The lamb chops, humus, and falafel were delicious! Highly recommended!!"

  • "I tried illili for restaurant week and it was one of the best places to check out. For starters, I very much enjoyed the kale salad. If you're low on iron, I highly recommend the chicken livers. My main course was the lamb shank which melted in my mouth. And you can't leave without having the candy bar for dessert. The service was amazing, very attentive. It can get quite noisy unless you end up upstairs in the private dining area. Overall, definitely a must-go spot. I'll be back!"

  • "Our server Alexander was outstanding. He was incredibly passionate about the food and providing us with an excellent dining experience. He was very patient and humorous when explaining all of the dishes to us. We were guided through the menu and he recommended many dishes that would be complementary as well as a wine that pulled it all together. The food itself was delicious, fresh and full of flavour. We couldn't have asked for a better night in New York City."

  • "If you're a Beta like me just enjoy the good food. It's excellent. But forget about comfort or nice view or atmosphere. Because you'll be located on the tiny and narrow second floor. I guess the real paradise on this restaurant is on the ground floor , where the experience really happens."

  • "We chose this place because it was close to where our children live and we wanted to try something new in the neighborhood! First they tried to seat us at the worst table in the house, you know the one where the waiters run by with food, dirty dishes, water! So when i refused that table we were given the 2nd worst table in the house! The food was good, portions large enough to share, but beware if you have a sensitive stomach, those spices may get to you later in the evening as happened to me and my husband!"

  • "Small plates, all incredibly tasty. I have a gluten allergy and the waiter was great at recommending what I could eat. Only flaws:1- the waiter said he would send out the whipped garlic because it would taste great with our meals but we didn't ask for it and he charged us 2-our cocktails took a while to come out."

  • "This restaurant is a hidden gem on 5th Avenue. Ive been working in the area for 3 years and never gave it a thought to check out till Restaurant week. Amazing ethnic cuisine."

  • "Best hummus and hot bulbous bread ever. The brussel sprouts are out of this world."

  • "Excellent service and quality food...not cheap, but food quality is worth it"

  • "Everything about our experience from the decor to our waiter and the food were utterly fantastic. Our waiter was both Lebanese and a serious foodie. His recommendations were spot-on. The food quality at Ilili is superb. Of particular note are the duck schwarma, the kibbenaya, and the semolina dumplings. The "gnocchi" or semolina dumplings arrive as a generously sized pile of sliced slightly larger than traditional Italian gnocchi, ensconced in a delicate froth of garlic infused yoghurt. The dumplings were quite simply one of the most delicious things I have ever eaten."

  • "Met a friend here for lunch and she comes to the restarant a few times a week. I have been twice and remembered the food to be amazing. This time, however was different. The shrimp dish I ordered didn't have much taste and the falafel was way overcooked and too crunchy throughout. However, the star of the meal was our very attentive server -- he made it a very memorable lunch."

  • "I came here with a friend and we both decided that we would definitely come back. I would definitely recommend the fries and the Ilili Candybar dessert. Service was really good too. It was a bit cramped and noisy but that wasn't much of an issue. This was definitely a great find."

  • "From the moment we were seated, our server Julie took great care of us. She was helpful with drink recommendations and sequenced our small plates order. Our water glasses were also filled promptly throughout the evening--something other restaurants don't seem to be able to do! She and her colleagues deserve our praise and thanks for a lovely anniversary meal. My only slight disappointment is that the room off to the side where we were seated lacked the charm of the other two high-ceilinged rooms. The food was fabulous!"

  • "Having eaten my share of Arabic food around the world I can confidently say that this is some of the best you will find anywhere. April served us and was great. She helped us pick dishes that complemented each other and were really tasty. The music was good. I ended up buying some of the tunes they were playing. The dining room looks very nice with wood decor all over. There really isn't anything bad I can think of to say about Ilili. Top notch all around!"

  • "Beautiful restaurant with soaring golden walls, a quieter balcony for people who want to talk and a very accommodating reservation staff who re-booked our table when one of our party was unavoidably delayed. Plentiful seats in the bar area meant we didn't have to stand and wait, attentive service, and a Mezze dinner shared among all at our table with guidance from our waiter was a delight. The tabbouleh is wonderful - more like a parsley-lemon salad!"

  • "I went to Ilili for dinner with a friend. We arrived a few minutes early and were invited to wait in the bar area. We were then quickly seated upstairs. We had requested a quiet table, and our upstairs table was just right. The food was fabulous. We ordered less than the waiter recommended (one large plate, three small, rather than two large and several small) and it was plenty. Great service, great food."

  • "Great for sharing dishes with friends and celebrating the joy of fine food and wine. Flavours are fresh, refined and well balanced, sumptuous without being overbearing. Chic but simple atmosphere, not too formal. Able to accommodate anyone from kids to entertaining clients or those seeking to impress a date."

  • "We had eaten here before and forgotten how good the food was! The place is big and packed with people and the noise level was very high / annoying, hard to have a conversation. Nonetheless, we requested a quiet table and they accommodated our request with seating upstairs. The food was delicious - every mezze platter was excellent as was the lebanese wine. Thanks to the server for his recommendations!"

  • "We had a great meal, with great service. It's too bad the main dining room has no tables-for-two. The smaller dining room is not as attractive."
    Dined on 7/9/2014
  • "We ate at ilili with a group of 10. Had a nice round table, but the noise is so loud that I could only hear the person sitting next to me. It was sort of a family reunion so it wasn't ideal to say the least. The food was delicious and our waiter was very good. One of our eaters had celiac and the waiter brought her a special serving of whatever we ordered for each dish. My husband made the mistake of telling the waiter to just bring what he thought would be good, so we had way too much food and an expensive bill. But all in all it was very enjoyable."

  • "I received a gift certificate to ilili so I decided to give it a try for my birthday celebration. What a gift! The food and service were exceptional. I've had Lebanese cuisine before, but ilili took the experience to new heights. I won't be waiting until my next birthday to return."

  • "Food is great, but if you want to actually have a conversation with the people at your table, go elsewhere."
    Dined on 7/2/2014
  • "This was our first time at Ililli. It was perfect for a quick dinner before a lecture and the food was quite good including some unusual flavors and spices. It is the Turkish version of Spanish Tapas. Everything we ordered was tasty. We would go back and that is a real vote of confidence."

  • "Beautiful lounge/bar area as you walk in, restaurant area is a bit tight with seating, but comfortable and very pretty; the music can get rather loud, depending on where you sit."

  • "If you love mezza, Ilili is a great place to enjoy a wide variety of excellent choices. Standards like hummus and tabouleh stand out from the crowd because of their vibrant flavors. Less typical fare like the cauliflower (Arnabeet Mekle) and brussel sprouts will make you want to eat your vegetables. The mekanek, kibbeh, tuna belly, shawarmas, etc., will make meat and fish lovers quite happy too. All accompanied with excellent light and freshly made pita. The portions are quite sufficient for four people to share, and you can easily make a meal of a large selection of the mezza. The servers are knowledgeable about the food and helpful in terms of gauging variety/quantity. Bigger tables and a better corkage policy would lift my rating."

  • "We enjoyed really authentic Lebanese food. beautifully cooked and presented. The wait staff were particularly helpful"

  • "I highly recommend ilili to people who haven't yet tried Lebanese food. The food was great and for those in our party not familiar with Lebanese food, the staff were extremely helpful in helping them choose their dish. No one was disappointed. I highly recommend the a combination of small dishes from the Mezza section of the menu if there are 3 or more of you in your ding party. Don't miss out on the Lebanese wine. As for the environment, ilili's modern layout is high end with both a great bar area and restaurant."

  • "Some of the restaurant has a great ambiance, but it's inconsistent. My party of 4 was shoved into a corner room upstairs that looked like an employee break room in a strip mall. Not what I envisioned for my special occasion and out of town guests. There were tons of empty tables in the better part of the restaurant when we arrived, but they said those tables were "reserved," even though we had a reservation as well. Not impressed!"
