Diner Reviews
  • "I had been convinced after 14 years of living in the states that there were no good lebanese restaurants in America. But Illili changed that. First of all, the ambiance is fantastic - it makes the restaurant a place where you'd want to go because it's awesome and not just because you are looking for lebanese cuisine. I definitely could see myself and others going there simply for the bar. Secondly the food is great. I wouldn't call the dishes truly authentic lebanese (some are however) but their interpretation is tasty and close enough that lebanese nationals would appreciate it and others would get a good feel for the food. I can't wait to go back and try other plates."

  • "All of the tapas are great, I have not tried one that I don't like. My all time favorite is the Kibbeh Nayye, which is basically the Lebanese version of steak tartare."

  • "First went to Ilili when it opened and it was a fine dining establishment. Now due to its size it is too big to be able to send out really thoughtful food. Service was spotty. Our server certainly steered us to order too much food. Was told we had the table for only 2 hrs, something I hate, only to be told as we exited that they made a mistake. Expensive. Find better Lebanese elsewhere."

  • "Things I loved 1. Great food - Very Delicious 2. Great service - Our Server was patient and respectful. 3. Great ambience Reasons why I do not consider it 5 star worthy! 1. Happy hour is from 4 to 730 but wait its only at the bar! Whatttt ? When you sit down for dinner you pay full price. It would have been nice to mention that when we arrived 45 mins early. 2. I had called in earlier to tell them its a birthday and I need a dessert with candles at the end of the meal twice. They totally forgot about it. When I reminded the waiter after he gave us the cheque he looked puzzled. Also we got two spoons before the cake arrived really? Its a freaking surprise!"

  • "Twice have been to this restaurant.....once as a business dinner, once with my husband for after-theater dining. Both times it was 6:30 pm, restaurant virtually empty, both times we were taken to the worst table. Twice we asked to be seated elsewhere, got a bit of attitude, waited 20 min for new table (in a nearly empty restaurant). Both parties were comprised of well-dressed diners. Too bad, as the food is excellent. Our waiter, Patrick, could not have been lovelier, but all his charm could not erase the rudeness at the door. One, two, three strikes, you're out, as far as this diner is concerned. I'll take my business elsewhere."

  • "went for Vday and super pricey for what we experienced. It was over rated. I travel and eat fine cuisine all over domestic and abroad and this place falls short. Our waiter, made it a point to circle and exclaim, on our bill that the total of (289 for two meals two appetizers) did not include tip."

  • "Just found my new FAVORITE restaurant in our work neighborhood. Impeccable in every way. Warm and welcoming, outstanding food and wonderful service. We will be coming back frequently."

  • "The menu is full of delicious taste sensations for both vegetarian and omnivorous tastes. The Duck Shawarma...mmmm! And some of the hummus variations are excellent too. Wine list is good, although if you are a serious wine lover, and dining for the wine selections, this may disappoint."

  • "We have been to this restaurant several times. We love the Mezza plates (tapas style). They are different than the usual middle eastern cuisine. Great for large groups to share and taste many dishes. The pita bread is out of this world. The entrees are way over priced, portions only slightly larger than appetizer size. The lamb shish kebab was all fat. We have had better quality at the local brooklyn restaurants. Drinks are in the $12-$18 range. Good for groups that order Mezzes only."

  • "My wife took me to ilili a few years ago. I had never really had this type of food before but I am always open to trying new things. I am was so impressed by how delicious the food was and actually quite upset that I had waited this long to try it. We have come back many times over the last few years and each time the food and service are excellent. Bottom line, ilili is a great place to go for dinner or even apps and drinks. They attract a great mix of people and you are sure to have fun and leave very satisfied."

  • "Very good American-Lebanese food, especially the mezze menu. Try the Brussels sprouts and the grilled octopus. You can skip the touted duck schwarma; it's merely ok. The service was friendly and helpful and when our server found it was our anniversary, he provided us with a nice dessert (the 'candy bar') on the house. The noise from the bar was lively as they have a popular happy hour. Since we sat in a dining room off to the side, the din was bearable. Recommended!"

  • "The place is a little noisy for my taste, but we were happy seated upstairs and out of the way for our dinner. Service was great, presentation of the food was very good and the menu has a lot of interesting options all in the Lebanese, Mediterranean or "fusion" line. The appetizers or "mezza" were particularly intriguing. The dessert menu also offered a lot of unique choices. Coffee was good, too! Only negative, we thought the lamb kebabs and chicken in our mixed grill entrée were a bit dry and overcooked. A lovely evening and worth another visit."

  • "The food was superb, I took only mezzas and it was enough for a good dinner. The wine list is not super long, but cocktails are good."

  • "Started our great Lebanese dinner at the bar. The bartender was very helpful in deciding on a refreshing house white wine. When my guest arrived, we were shown to a great table in the modern dining room. The extensive menu contained many unfamiliar dishes, but the waiter was very helpful in deciding on the perfect dishes for both of us. The puffy pita bread is warm and delicious and great with our Hummus appetizer. The Brussel sprouts were uniquely tasty. Probably the best broiled lamb chops I ever tasted. I'm looking forward to enjoying this restaurant again soon!"

  • "We've dined here more times than I can remember. But we must have a magnetic charge as every time we come, they try to stick us at the table right by the entrance where everyone bumps into us. We were the first one in the place and comically that's where they tried to seat us. It's a petty comment but one I wish they could improve upon."

  • "Have had several excellent meals, both lunch and dinner. On this occasion, very accomodating for birthday celebration; recommended good location and good about holding table. Most dishes were excellent, as usual--mixed grill a "must". Gnocchi was interesting but other items much better. Nevertheless, overall a great meal and nght."

  • "As a sometimes vegetarian, with a wife who can't compromise, finding places to have a date night can be difficult. Here we had the Gnochi, which was amazing. The complexities of the flavor make it well worth it. Then we finished off our meal with the Hazelnit Chocolate cake, also excellent. Pricey overall, but worth it."

  • "The ambience and service in the main dining hall is great, the main courses on the price fix lunch menu are ordinary and uninspired. However both of the meze/appetizers we selected were delicious. I would recommend if you are going to ILILI for lunch that you select a variety of appetizers and skip the entry."

  • "We tried this restaurant because we wanted something different than steak/Italian. We were well rewarded. The food was amazing. Started by splitting Hummus with fresh baked Pita bread, garden salad with Kale followed by a mixed grill of lamb, beef and pork. The Brussels sprouts we ordered were to die for and a must."

  • "the menu is diverse and all the food is both well prepared and very flavorful. the service is attentive but not officious."

  • "I love ilili. The best arabic food you can find. The place is energetic. They have very good service, our waitress was amazing."

  • "maybe its better if we were there for the regular dinner. But with the Restaurant week prix-fix deal, it was just okay.. The second floor dining area is nothing like the first floor (all the pictures for this restaurant were from the first floor. )"
    Dined on 3/5/2014
  • "Perfect service with a very helpful server. Food taste, presentation, and cocktails were superb. Our party of 4 shared multiple small plates rather than full entrees. This was a great way to go since the menu has so many wonderful choices."
    Dined on 3/14/2014
  • "The hype about the place doesn't make sense. I've definitely had better food.. the service was fine..but the dishes were eh, the price were steep and i don't mind expensive restaurants, but there should be reason for the price.. basically i didnt think the food was amazing, or even good for that matter."

  • "Knowledgeable waitstaff. If you arrive separately from your other diners, be careful to look out for them on your own. Host can get disoriented. Food is terrific, and great for sharing and social groups."
    Dined on 3/13/2014
  • "Food was good but our waiter was very slow and didn't check on us at all through out the meal. We actually have to ask other waiters for our requests. This for sure can ruin a good meal."
    Dined on 3/11/2014
  • "This was under whelming - so many misses - the service was slow - had our apps and it took 30 mins to come back and ask if we wanted an entree. This is American Lebanese food. My grandmother would be ashamed. If trendy and kind of Lebanese is your goal. This will be fine. Very disappointing."
    Dined on 3/11/2014
  • "Fabulous, well presented Mediterranean food with a twist. Their steak tartare is OUT OF THIS WORLD and their selection of Lebanese wines was fabulous. Lovely setting (be sure to ask for a downstairs spot if you want the full effect or else the upstairs area is good for a romantic meal). Service staff make you feel very welcome and are super helpful and friendly. I was missing some good mezze after our Egyptian holiday but this hit the spot! Loved this place - we will definitely be back."

  • "I came here early on a Saturday night with two girlfriends. We ordered a bunch of the small plates - all recommendations by the waitress. Everything was amazing! Would definitely recommend the meat tartare and brussel sprouts! Definitely going back!"
