Diner Reviews
  • "Had a great dinner with my dad. Service was great. Food was fantastic. Caesar salad was my favorite. Making the salad right in front of our table was fresh and awesome. Willing to come back very soon."

  • "Overall a very good experience. The wine list is quite over priced (at least 3 - 4 times retail markup)."

  • "Our visit to Il Tinello was memorable in many ways, starting with accomodating our lateness for a 6 pm pre-theater reservation. The service was impeccable, attentive and very personable without being intrusive. The food was outstanding. The decor is timeless and tasteful, rather than trendy, appropriate for old-school Italian fine dining. The tableside prep and rollout carts for antipasto and desserts were attractive and entertaining. and certainly enticing. While the winelist is expensive, it is also extensive; even the least expensive (@$50) is a delicious choice. We will return whenever in this area filled with alternative choices."

  • "Service was excellent! Daniel knew how to make the best Ceasar salad! Pasta was fresh and delicious!"

  • "Il Tinello is excellent every time. The food is exceptional, and the service is friendly and attentive. It also has a great ambiance. The table side Caesar is a must, as is the antipasto table that allows you to choose exactly which delicacy you want to indulge in. The pastas offer incredible variety and they are excellent. As good as the items in the menu are, their specials are always worth ordering! The dessert table is also unusually good. My favorite overall Italian dining experience in NY!"

  • "Very hot day and the A/C wasn't working. Management made no accommodation to bring in fans or discount pricing. Food was delicious, but temperature made it more difficult to enjoy."

  • "I had made a reservation for 2 (all that was available in OpenTable) but was only a single person. The host initially suggested that I eat at the bar, when that wasn't acceptable, he suggested a tiny table in an awkward location. When that was refused, he finally offered a regular two-top. The food was very good, although I wouldn't say excellent. The service was some of the best I have had anywhere! The waiter, under-waiter, and bus boy were all superb. The wine list is long (but only a few wines from the larger Italian producers) and somewhat on the pricey side."

  • "Had to wait 40 min for a table. Arrived for 8PM reserve 3 min early. Don't overbook is the message. Good standard NY Italian fare. Otherwise attentive service. But would not chance it again. There are plenty more like it."

  • "Found this restaurant by accident but it turned out to be one of our best finds in NYC. The wait staff was very professional and skilled and the food was exceptional. It is a small neighborhood restaurant that takes great pride in what they do - from the little things like providing tastes of chef specialties and suggesting perfect wine pairings to skilled/entertaining table side preparations and making your food exactly as you ordered it. I would highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "Haven't been in years since we moved to Florida full time but it is remains our 'favorite' place - as always, the food, the service, the ambiance - wonderful but we did miss seeing Mario - we say 'Hi' and we wish him a speedy recovery .... Jim and Trish Tamuccio"

  • "My wife and i took a chance on Il Tinello for our final dinner in NYC. We were so happy to have done so. From the moment we were greeted, we felt like this establishment wanted to wow us and they certainly did. We enjoyed our amuse bouche, the appetizers and I had the veal scallopine special that was a joy to eat. I recommend this restaurant and hope they continue to wow future customers."

  • "Il Tinello is a magnificent restaurant. Honestly, I am a bit hesitant to write too much about it our of fear that more people will discover this wonderful place. It is truly an outstanding Italian restaurant well worth the price. All the best to the management, Chef, waiters and kitchen staff!"

  • "Had a wonderful pre-theater dinner meal. This place is quintessential "old New York" dining (with the price tag to prove it). Legions of service people hovering, just waiting to refill your glass and pick up your used utensils. The food was superb, especially the Boratta mozzarella appetizer. Courses all arrived in a timely manner to leave time for desert and coffee before leaving for the show. I heartily recommend this very special place but you might might want to check your credit card limit beforehand. "

  • "Enjoyed a birthday dinner with my mother and the wait staff was exceptional and made sure we had a fabulous evening. Would definitely recommend for a special occasion or romantic outing as I would have enjoyed and evening with my spouse here as well. Food was moderate portions and wonderfully prepared. House made burrata was perfect "

  • "although somewhat pricey for a pre-theater dinner, the food and service here is very good and our guests enjoyed the dining experience. They got us out on a timely basis to get to our show without hurrying our dinner."

  • "We had been to this restaurant several years ago and forgot how great the food and service were. It may be a bit pricey for some but well worth every dollar! We will return. Great place for a quiet romantic dinner."

  • "The dinner we had was one of the best meals we have had in New York City. We look forward to a special evening at the restaurant whenever we are in the city. The service is exceptional, the entrees are incredible, and the desserts are amazing."

  • "We dined at Il Tinello on a Saturday night. The service was outstanding the whole evening. We begin with a leisurely cocktail at the cozy bar and then on to our table. The wait staff was friendly, professional and very helpful in recommendations. We both had sautéed soft shell crabs followed by branzino filleted table side. Maître'd made a great wine recommendation with an 07' Amarone. Watching everyone working as a team was like watching an orchestra, each knowing his part. True fine dining. Needless to say, but we will be back on our next visit to NYC"

  • "My wife and I dine here often and always still amazed how exceptional the food is always. Each time we bring friends with us there feelings are the same .From the moment you walk in till the end the staff is beyond friendly.. If we lived in the City we would come more often. We dine out often and many different places of which there are none that comes close. A bit expensive but worth ever dollar. Only one word to describe the food, service and staff, "Perfect"...."

  • "Food good but nothing particularly special. Service very good. Lamb was good but not prepared as ordered. Waiter took back and replaced without any argument. About 30% over priced."

  • "Il Tinello is a wonderful Italian gem. Wonderful food and service. The only negative when we were there was the noise level due to the small space being completely full. We definitely will go back, however. "

  • "Spent over 200 which is not an issue. The food was terrific. But why are you charging me for a second iced tea. Plus you didn't even let me know which was a slap in the face. Next time I will take my business back to the Four Seasons or another top spot where they don't charge for refills."

  • "A First Class dining experience. This was our third time at Il Tinello in the last ten years; it's as good as ever. The art gallery decor and low noise level are very pleasant. The food was excellent, although my spaghetti carbonara was not the best I have ever had, the 2008 Brunello di Montalcino made up for it. My wife's spaghetti amatriciano was excellent. We were in the mood for comfort food. The waitstaff was terrific. We will definitely return the next time we are in the Big Apple."

  • "We had a lovely dinner at this gracious restaurant Friday night. First, the room is beautiful--quiet but with enough buzz. Tables spaced far enough apart so you can have a decent conversation. Service was spot on--drink order taken right away (something my husband appreciates!). And the food--could not have been better. We had a table of 6 and everyone had something different & everyone loved their food--one vegetarian and she was happy with her meal. I had branzano and it was excellent. Nice wine list. We would definitely go back and highly recommend it to others."

  • "This is a really good destination restaurant. Everything works; service, food, ambiance. If you want to feel special [ and pay for it] this is the place. We have two favorite special venues in Manhattan and this is one. "

  • "Il Tinello was lovely. Probably the most attentive and excellent service one could find in very uppity mid-town Manhatten. The dinner prices were reasonable (for NYC) with many additions to select from. Our waiter ,Daniel, was omnipresent but not intrusive and the table side made Caesar salad was special. We had chicken dishes and a veal entree. All were excellent and generous. Because the wines are pricey, we drank less than we normally would. Other than that, it was a great dinner. Regis is right!"

  • "Excellent food and exceptional service. Very disappointed with the wine list given the food. Very few mid priced wines ($50-100) and they have a selection of ONE wine by the glass. For a restaurant with such good food, this was very disappointing."
