A word from Il Terrazzo Carmine
Il Terrazzo Carmine, owned and operated by Carmine Smeraldo, is one of Seattle's true dining anomalies - a highly successful restaurant with unfailingly high standards and a loyal, sophisticated clientele. The cuisine has been acclaimed as Seattle's best by the media and more importantly, by local diners.
Il Terrazzo Carmine is located in historic Pioneer Square - nestled in an urban-renewed alley with entrances through the vintage lobby on First Avenue or through the delightful courtyard in the back. Since 1984, Carmine Smeraldo's classic Italian restaurant has been where the locals have chosen to return over and over again. From the Carpaccio Di Bue and Spaghettini Dell 'Ortolano for lunch to the Suprema Di Pollo Farcita and Zuppa Di Pesce for dinner you will know you have gone to a place where excellence is a way of life. Arguably the best Italian restaurant in Seattle, Il Terrazzo serves classical Italian cuisine with an atmosphere you may want to call home and never leave

There are only a couple of restaurants in Seattle that are always great no matter when you go and Il Terazzo Carmine is at the top of that short list. Whether you love great pasta, risotto, or perfectly prepared fish every menu item is pleasing and memorable. The wait staff are true professionals among the very best in the city. They know their customers and cater to specific tastes. Regulars have the ability to have custom prepared meals from pasta the way you want it to your very own lunch salad. It is also a great restaurant for people watching. The movers and shakers of Seattle-- corporate CEOs and leading attorneys frequent it for lunch. You always see someone you know. As good as it is for lunch, dinner is even better.

We have been looking for a new intimate restaurant since our last favorite closed. Both the food and service were excellent. From the beginning, the hostess was friendly and chatty, and the server was engaging and professional. We especially enjoyed the Oso Bucco and the wine selection. I was surprised how quickly the food came out of the kitchen, but didn't feel rushed. Every table was full, but we could still carry on a conversation. The only thing I'd do differently next time is substitute the fries. Although fried and seasoned perfectly, they don't really lend themselves to a romantic dinner.

I first dined here in 1990, very memorable then and now. Meal was wonderful. We did four courses, which is challenging in America due to portion sizes being just too plain huge. But, ITC accommodated us beautifully by offering small sized pasta and plenty of 1st's and 2nd's. We ended up sharing a small pasta between two of us and the veal chop - which was sublime in every way. Our waiter was attentive to the needs of our two elderly guests with food 'issues'. Very informative wine steward (not sure if he was an official sommelier), matching a single bottle of wine perfectly with our meals. I won't let it be another 20+ years before coming back!

We hadn't been to Il Terrazzo for a while, and when I learned the Alaskan Way viaduct would be closed for a full weekend, I decided it was time to check it out once again - this time on the terrace! The absence of "viaduct roar" made outside dining a pleasure, so I recommend taking advantage of future closures to optimize the al fresco experience. Our wait person, Victoria, was very pleasant and attentive, and made fine recommendations: a veal osso bucco that my wife found delicious; and a duck entree for me that was done to a turn. I know a little about Italian wine, and our sommelier was happy to assist me choose a fine Barbera d'Asti that accompanied both dishes perfectly. Anniversary tiramisu was a pleasant surprise. Thank you!

Service was outstanding...attentive enough to accommodate all our requests yet not over-bearing. The ambience is inviting and perfect for a special celebration. Simply the best! My wife loves this restaurant. I rate it very high for the average food lover. For me it's a challenge because I'm allergic to gluten. Italian cuisine is not the best for gluten free choices. My ciopino came with two big pieces of crusty bread dunked in it, even though I indicated that i must eat gluten free to our waiter. It was sent back and a bread free version arrived quickly. Not a big deal, but worth noting for gluten free folks.

I came here with a friend who was visiting from New York. We've been to a few different restaurants around Seattle, some popular ones, some less known neighborhood gems, and some hidden local favorites. We both consider ourselves foodies and I think this one falls within the hidden local favorites. I'm not sure why I didn't come here sooner, the food was fantastic, the service great and unpretentious, and the ambiance was really unique. I would highly recommend Il Terrazzo Carmine. It was fit for foodies and special occasion, but still not overly expensive by any means.

My honey and I went to Il Terrazzo for my birthday dinner and we were so pleased! The food was amazing, the service was excellent, and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We split most everything, from the salad to the desserts, had plenty to eat and all food was split in the kitchen for us and perfectly plated. The lamb ribs were delish. We loved the simple pasta we had with spaghetti, tomatoes, spinach and pine nuts...we wanted it for dessert too! We couldn't have chosen better! Thank you for a great night!

Friendly greeting from hostess and we're promptly seated. Asked server for recommendations from opener's menu and were not disappointed in two plates ordered (burrata and antipasti del giorno). Wine list of domestic and Italian wines was extensive and fairly priced. Pinot Grigio was excellent pairing for both openers and entrees. My wife's raviolini di peace was sauced (Primavera) properly (ravioli was al dente but a little too tough around its edges). My pan seared sweetbreads were among the best I've ever ordered. Dessert was a delicious melt-in-your mouth, not-too-alcohol-laced tiramisu. Service was efficient and gracious. Conversation was not interrupted once (nice). Dining room is beautiful and noise level: suppressed.

My two friends and I had a wonderful dining experience from start to finish. The wine list is impressive and one can find excellent wines at reasonable prices, although there are also a great selection of high-end wines. The service was impeccable. We each ordered a different main course and shared bites and all of them were delicious. We decided that we need to return and order pasta dishes so we can try those The décor is museum-worthy. Definitely worth many more visits!

Reminded me of Canlis because it's been in Seattle for decades, fresh food, significant wine list and pricey. My fig salad was delicious. Halibut was very good but arrived too cool. I like a sear to the outside but this was almost poached. Gnocci was cooked well but no creativity-they simply threw some marinara sauce over the top. Waiter did not know wines very well.

All the food was so delicious: figs w/ goat cheese & pancetta, antipasti, mushroom fricasee, venison & spinach ravioli w/veal sauce, pork chop, profiteroles. The bread was excellent. Service is attentive and knowledgeable. $20 corkage fee is reasonable. If we lived in Seattle we'd be regulars. Not a flower or foam dot on the plate--hot food was really hot b/c it had just been prepared to order. An old-fashioned restaurant in the best way.

Strangers in Seattle, we found it in Zagat based on cuisine, menu, and location. Beautiful setting; calm low key atmosphere - adults behaving like adults, both waitstaff and clientele; uncommonly professional wait staff (no kids); attentive and very personable service; extensive menu; extensive wine list featuring California, Oregon, French and Italian bottles; some half bottles; only gripe = too few by the glass. GREAT FOOD PREPARATION and presentation; the best eggplant parmegianna and the most tender veal scallopini we've ever tasted ; innovative veggie creations; willing to alter the menu norms for individual requests. We've had enough disappointments in expensive restaurants to know how rare this kind of dining experience really is.

I love this place! My husband and I found this place while in the area trying to find a restaurant three years ago and keep coming back. By far this is my favorite restaurant. Our most recent experience I was really looking forward to their truffle butter steak with a wild mushroom risotto. Unfortunately they weren't offering it as apart if their specials that night. When our awesome server Burton came by, I asked if it was still available and he said, "let me ask the kitchen if they have the truffle butter." At that point I was blown away. Our last two visit, our server was not so accommodating (but still a great time none the less). Burton was able to pull off the delicious entree for me to enjoy, and enjoy I did. Thank you Burton.

This was a our first visit to Il Terrazzo and the food was great. For appetizers I'd recommend the mushroom polenta, and the grilled shrimp -- both are savory and wonderfully prepared. I ordered the venison ravioli (which was delicious and not gamey), and my husband ordered the Chioppino. Our waiter Burton was outstanding! His recommendations for appetizers and entrees was spot on. Burton's attention to our table was perfect -- not intrusive but never ignored (definitely recommend him as a waiter). The wine menu was a very good mix of Washington, CA, and Italian wines (plus some French). We loved it and will most definitely be back.
