A word from Il Terrazzo Carmine
Il Terrazzo Carmine, owned and operated by Carmine Smeraldo, is one of Seattle's true dining anomalies - a highly successful restaurant with unfailingly high standards and a loyal, sophisticated clientele. The cuisine has been acclaimed as Seattle's best by the media and more importantly, by local diners.
Il Terrazzo Carmine is located in historic Pioneer Square - nestled in an urban-renewed alley with entrances through the vintage lobby on First Avenue or through the delightful courtyard in the back. Since 1984, Carmine Smeraldo's classic Italian restaurant has been where the locals have chosen to return over and over again. From the Carpaccio Di Bue and Spaghettini Dell 'Ortolano for lunch to the Suprema Di Pollo Farcita and Zuppa Di Pesce for dinner you will know you have gone to a place where excellence is a way of life. Arguably the best Italian restaurant in Seattle, Il Terrazzo serves classical Italian cuisine with an atmosphere you may want to call home and never leave

From the moment you walk into the door, your experience at Il Terrazzo will be top-notch! Attentive and polished was our last reception even though we were late and arrived with a walker. Coats are are wisked away with care and your table waiting. The service is superb and personalized in every detail, special requests handled with ease. The cuisine still tops the charts locally as well as nationally and internationally. A Seattle institution true to their heritage with local ingredients beautifully fused. Special occasions or just a great dining experience is consistently delivered!

Food is great always fresh with an extensive Italian menu and excellent fresh seafood prepared simply to take full advantage of the quality of the fish. . Service is even better than the food. Staff are all professional servers and among the best in the city. By your second visit you are an old friend warmly welcomed back.

We celebrated a family birthday party here. We began at Intermezzo (a bar in the same building owned by the same owners) and they very kindly transported our drinks to the Il Terrazzo Carmine when we were seated. Our server was attentive without being disruptive. The calamari appetizer was delicious as was the bisque. We enjoyed the lamb rack (delicious!), rigatoni (very good) and the halibut. The dessert tray had options for all tastes and each of our desserts were served with fresh berries which was quite a nice touch. The Napoleon and red velvet cake were delicious. Profiteroles were also enjoyable.

The service was both good and bad. Our appetisers were served to us too quickly; our entrees came more than 20 minutes after we had our soup and salad My friend had the rabbit special Our waiter said guests who like rabbit really like it. The rabbit was dry; it looked and tasted like a dry chicken breast. It was slightly warm on the outside and cold on the inside. The risotto underneath was just room temperature. My gnocchi was very glutinous and gooey. The fresh basil noted in the menu description was missing, replaced by a small leafed bitter green. Although the wine list is extensive, it lacked a good selection of Brunellos. The highlight of our meal was dessert -- I had requested an affogato al caffe and it was delicious.

Love Carmine's for an intimate business lunch - the service is fantastic, the food is always delicious and the atmosphere is vibrant, but not too loud. Whenever I am at Carmine's I feel like I could be in New York or Chicago - the service sets a high bar and leaves me feeling disappointed when I take anyone elsewhere for lunch.

If you want delicious Italian, this classic Seattle restaurant won't disappoint. The calamari and beef carpaccio are favorite starters, and you'll love any pasta dish from the menu. The wine list is impressive, but it's worth starting with a good cocktail. The tiramisu and creme brulee are both fantastic! I was disappointed that my open table reservation request for a special table notification that it was my partner's birthday was ignored. We were sandwiched so tight between tables (basically in the passing space between to large tables where there should be no table!) the woman at the next table kept hitting my chair and it was difficult to talk over the conversations on either side of us. Also, service was slow at times, but good.

We had an opportunity to visit Il Terrazzo Carmine this past week after a fairly long absence. The quality remains absolutely first rate. The menu offers a wide range of interesting Italian or Italianate offerings; the wine list is extensive (and includes a lot of pricey classic choices that would not fit most visitor's budgets). Service was very good--attentive but not intrusive. This establishment remains a favorite for special occasions. An additional benefit is the complementary valet parking in the garage off King St just across the passageway.

The food was very good. Everything was well prepared, beautifully presented and made with fresh ingredients. We shared an appetizer and received it divided on separate plates. We each had delicious soups ( mine, the cauliflower was yummy) The risotto of the day with lobster mushrooms and scallops was delicious. The atmosphere was bustling and appealing if a bit on the noisy side (we were seated in a small area in the rear in a somewhat separated with perhaps 10 tables . It was a bit less bustling) the best part of the experience, hands down, was our server. Engaging, responsive ( replaced napkins when they fell), friendly, attentive , charming and yet somehow inobtrusuve. We had a lovely evening and would absolutely recommend .

My husband and I planned a three day trip to Seattle and arranged a dinner at this restaurant with friends whom we had not seen in six years. Our friends live in the Seattle area but had not been to this restaurant. They were very pleased as we were. Everything was wonderful. I wish this restaurant were in our city, as it would be my "go to place" for a special evening.

We were warmly welcomed and given a choice for tables for two and looking around noticed that, as a couple, we were vastly outnumbered by groups of 4, 6, 8 or more. This usually means that the service can be very uneven and that is what came to pass. I cannot fault the room or the food but it took almost 10 minutes to have our entree plates removed from our table. This is something that I consider a deal breaker for a fine dining establishment. Tables of 8 or 10 take ages to deal with, especially today with the heightened sense of entitled (high maintenance) behaviour, leaving little time for the table for two.

While coming through those huge wooden doors was a bit offputting, the scene on the other side was exactly what I hoped it would be. Our corner table was a little tight with other diners, but that didn't affect our enjoyment of our meals. The tenderloin special is the culinary highlight of this trip to Seattle. We showed up about 10 minutes early for our 8:45 reservation and were treated as if we were imposing by being early. We asked how long it might be and they implied that even if they had open tables, they had no intention of seating us before our reserved time. After looking around the restaurant, it was clear they did have open tables, they just seemed uninterested in seating us before our reserved time. When they finally did seat us they tried to put 6 of us at a table with 5 chairs (apparently they can't count). When we got to the table and there clearly wasn't enough chairs, the host stated that was our fault for only reserving a table for 5 (open table doesn't let you reserve for 5, it is 4 or 6 only).

We had a reservation and upon showing up, we were sitted in the most unpleasant table with heavy traffic and our backs to the steps leading into a room. We requested to be moved and was moved to another table with the same foot traffic. Food wise, it was quite disappointing. The seafood cioppino was very bland. My husband had fish, it was pretty mediocre as well. Needless to say, it was our first time there and also our last. Not recommended.

There are only a couple of restaurants in Seattle that are always great no matter when you go and Il Terazzo Carmine is at the top of that short list. Whether you love great pasta, risotto, or perfectly prepared fish every menu item is pleasing and memorable. The wait staff are true professionals among the very best in the city. They know their customers and cater to specific tastes. Regulars have the ability to have custom prepared meals from pasta the way you want it to your very own lunch salad. It is also a great restaurant for people watching. The movers and shakers of Seattle-- corporate CEOs and leading attorneys frequent it for lunch. You always see someone you know. As good as it is for lunch, dinner is even better.

We have been looking for a new intimate restaurant since our last favorite closed. Both the food and service were excellent. From the beginning, the hostess was friendly and chatty, and the server was engaging and professional. We especially enjoyed the Oso Bucco and the wine selection. I was surprised how quickly the food came out of the kitchen, but didn't feel rushed. Every table was full, but we could still carry on a conversation. The only thing I'd do differently next time is substitute the fries. Although fried and seasoned perfectly, they don't really lend themselves to a romantic dinner.
