A word from Il Terrazzo Carmine
Il Terrazzo Carmine, owned and operated by Carmine Smeraldo, is one of Seattle's true dining anomalies - a highly successful restaurant with unfailingly high standards and a loyal, sophisticated clientele. The cuisine has been acclaimed as Seattle's best by the media and more importantly, by local diners.
Il Terrazzo Carmine is located in historic Pioneer Square - nestled in an urban-renewed alley with entrances through the vintage lobby on First Avenue or through the delightful courtyard in the back. Since 1984, Carmine Smeraldo's classic Italian restaurant has been where the locals have chosen to return over and over again. From the Carpaccio Di Bue and Spaghettini Dell 'Ortolano for lunch to the Suprema Di Pollo Farcita and Zuppa Di Pesce for dinner you will know you have gone to a place where excellence is a way of life. Arguably the best Italian restaurant in Seattle, Il Terrazzo serves classical Italian cuisine with an atmosphere you may want to call home and never leave

The food was very good. Everything was well prepared, beautifully presented and made with fresh ingredients. We shared an appetizer and received it divided on separate plates. We each had delicious soups ( mine, the cauliflower was yummy) The risotto of the day with lobster mushrooms and scallops was delicious. The atmosphere was bustling and appealing if a bit on the noisy side (we were seated in a small area in the rear in a somewhat separated with perhaps 10 tables . It was a bit less bustling) the best part of the experience, hands down, was our server. Engaging, responsive ( replaced napkins when they fell), friendly, attentive , charming and yet somehow inobtrusuve. We had a lovely evening and would absolutely recommend .

My husband and I planned a three day trip to Seattle and arranged a dinner at this restaurant with friends whom we had not seen in six years. Our friends live in the Seattle area but had not been to this restaurant. They were very pleased as we were. Everything was wonderful. I wish this restaurant were in our city, as it would be my "go to place" for a special evening.

Excellent Service. Excellent food. All choices were top notch from the oysters to the antipasto to the eggplant to the gnocchi to the pasta the bread the drinks to the desserts to the coffee. Every time, ever meal we always come back to Carmine's. We even took a chance and brought our two year old grand-daughter. She enjoyed it too and they judiciously placed us!! Thanks.

We were warmly welcomed and given a choice for tables for two and looking around noticed that, as a couple, we were vastly outnumbered by groups of 4, 6, 8 or more. This usually means that the service can be very uneven and that is what came to pass. I cannot fault the room or the food but it took almost 10 minutes to have our entree plates removed from our table. This is something that I consider a deal breaker for a fine dining establishment. Tables of 8 or 10 take ages to deal with, especially today with the heightened sense of entitled (high maintenance) behaviour, leaving little time for the table for two.

We have eaten at this restaurant many time over the last 20 year and it has maintained its excellance. Well above average for food quality and an extensive if expensive wine list. The service is always good and one never feels rushed as it the case with so many Seattle restaurants.

While coming through those huge wooden doors was a bit offputting, the scene on the other side was exactly what I hoped it would be. Our corner table was a little tight with other diners, but that didn't affect our enjoyment of our meals. The tenderloin special is the culinary highlight of this trip to Seattle. Would definitely come back again.

We showed up about 10 minutes early for our 8:45 reservation and were treated as if we were imposing by being early. We asked how long it might be and they implied that even if they had open tables, they had no intention of seating us before our reserved time. After looking around the restaurant, it was clear they did have open tables, they just seemed uninterested in seating us before our reserved time. When they finally did seat us they tried to put 6 of us at a table with 5 chairs (apparently they can't count). When we got to the table and there clearly wasn't enough chairs, the host stated that was our fault for only reserving a table for 5 (open table doesn't let you reserve for 5, it is 4 or 6 only).

A really traditional italian restaurant whose menu have not changed in thirty (30) years, and that's because the food is sooo good. First, their pasta is served the way it should be served, al dente. Then the sauce, whether it is a red, white wine or creamy, is so sublime and sensuous. It is definitely with the visit. Mama Mia!

There are only a couple of restaurants in Seattle that are always great no matter when you go and Il Terazzo Carmine is at the top of that short list. Whether you love great pasta, risotto, or perfectly prepared fish every menu item is pleasing and memorable. The wait staff are true professionals among the very best in the city. They know their customers and cater to specific tastes. Regulars have the ability to have custom prepared meals from pasta the way you want it to your very own lunch salad. It is also a great restaurant for people watching. The movers and shakers of Seattle-- corporate CEOs and leading attorneys frequent it for lunch. You always see someone you know. As good as it is for lunch, dinner is even better.

We have been looking for a new intimate restaurant since our last favorite closed. Both the food and service were excellent. From the beginning, the hostess was friendly and chatty, and the server was engaging and professional. We especially enjoyed the Oso Bucco and the wine selection. I was surprised how quickly the food came out of the kitchen, but didn't feel rushed. Every table was full, but we could still carry on a conversation. The only thing I'd do differently next time is substitute the fries. Although fried and seasoned perfectly, they don't really lend themselves to a romantic dinner.

I first dined here in 1990, very memorable then and now. Meal was wonderful. We did four courses, which is challenging in America due to portion sizes being just too plain huge. But, ITC accommodated us beautifully by offering small sized pasta and plenty of 1st's and 2nd's. We ended up sharing a small pasta between two of us and the veal chop - which was sublime in every way. Our waiter was attentive to the needs of our two elderly guests with food 'issues'. Very informative wine steward (not sure if he was an official sommelier), matching a single bottle of wine perfectly with our meals. I won't let it be another 20+ years before coming back!

We hadn't been to Il Terrazzo for a while, and when I learned the Alaskan Way viaduct would be closed for a full weekend, I decided it was time to check it out once again - this time on the terrace! The absence of "viaduct roar" made outside dining a pleasure, so I recommend taking advantage of future closures to optimize the al fresco experience. Our wait person, Victoria, was very pleasant and attentive, and made fine recommendations: a veal osso bucco that my wife found delicious; and a duck entree for me that was done to a turn. I know a little about Italian wine, and our sommelier was happy to assist me choose a fine Barbera d'Asti that accompanied both dishes perfectly. Anniversary tiramisu was a pleasant surprise. Thank you!

Simply the best! My wife loves this restaurant. I rate it very high for the average food lover. For me it's a challenge because I'm allergic to gluten. Italian cuisine is not the best for gluten free choices. My ciopino came with two big pieces of crusty bread dunked in it, even though I indicated that i must eat gluten free to our waiter. It was sent back and a bread free version arrived quickly. Not a big deal, but worth noting for gluten free folks.

I came here with a friend who was visiting from New York. We've been to a few different restaurants around Seattle, some popular ones, some less known neighborhood gems, and some hidden local favorites. We both consider ourselves foodies and I think this one falls within the hidden local favorites. I'm not sure why I didn't come here sooner, the food was fantastic, the service great and unpretentious, and the ambiance was really unique. I would highly recommend Il Terrazzo Carmine. It was fit for foodies and special occasion, but still not overly expensive by any means.

We split most everything, from the salad to the desserts, had plenty to eat and all food was split in the kitchen for us and perfectly plated. The lamb ribs were delish. Friendly greeting from hostess and we're promptly seated. Asked server for recommendations from opener's menu and were not disappointed in two plates ordered (burrata and antipasti del giorno). Wine list of domestic and Italian wines was extensive and fairly priced. Pinot Grigio was excellent pairing for both openers and entrees. My wife's raviolini di peace was sauced (Primavera) properly (ravioli was al dente but a little too tough around its edges). My pan seared sweetbreads were among the best I've ever ordered. Dessert was a delicious melt-in-your mouth, not-too-alcohol-laced tiramisu. Service was efficient and gracious. Conversation was not interrupted once (nice). Dining room is beautiful and noise level: suppressed.

The wine list is impressive and one can find excellent wines at reasonable prices, although there are also a great selection of high-end wines. The service was impeccable. We each ordered a different main course and shared bites and all of them were delicious. We decided that we need to return and order pasta dishes so we can try those The décor is museum-worthy.
