Diner Reviews
  • "We are from out of town and tried iL Punto for the first time. It was the best choice we could have made. We were celebrating my birthday and our waiter, Rafael, took VERY good care of us the entire evening. He was extremely pleasant, attentive, and made us feel right at home. We honestly could not have asked for a better experience. At the end, he treated us to a glass of champagne to celebrate my special day and added a few extra desserts as well. Further, the food was absolutely amazing. With so many options to choose from we selected a tasty pasta dish with seafood and it was delicious! We also have to suggest trying their chocolate gelato before you leave, you will not be sorry! We give this restaurant 10 stars ...worth the trip!"

  • "Practically no one was there before a Wednesday matinee. I was dining alone and ordered a capaccio manza, which I should have had someone to share it with -- it was huge, and delicious (but just a tad heavy on the lemon juice). I also had a bucatini Amatriciana, which was good, but nothing like the Mario Batali ones I love (Lupa, in particular). Pleasant surrounding, nice service, good breadsticks and focaccia with oil and balsamic. Just seemed odd to be so deserted!"

  • "We had Chef Antonio's Creations tasting menu along with the wine pairing that Giancarlo selected for us. It was absolutely splendid. The combination of sweet and savory made for a remarkable meal. Giancarlo's wine selections paired perfectly."

  • "The food was good. The service is excellent. It was a quiet place not too busy. It's a nice spot for lunch during the workweek."

  • "Great food, awesome presentation. Every detail attended to. We felt as if we were in Europe where they don't rush you along and you ask for the check when you are ready. The food was really exceptional."

  • "We very much enjoyed our dining experience at iL Punto. The bar was nice & long and we enjoyed a lovely Italian white wine while waiting for our entire party to arrive; very comfortable. The appetizers were wonderful and the fresh fish was very well prepared. This restaurant was an easy walk from Penn Station, and we chose it due to its proximity. Anyone looking for a great Italian experience should try iL Punto."

  • "Had a fantastic meal here with 4 friends after a show. Gourmet style Italian. Great apps and variety of entrees. Nice portions but felt high end. Desserts also really good. The chocolate soufflé was delicious."

  • "We were looking for a delicious meal before a show and Il Punto did not disappoint! We were greeted warmly and immediately seated at our table. The waitstaff was attentive while not making us feel rushed. The calamari special in breadcrumbs and rolled in chopped black olives was delicious. My salmon was cooked to perfection and my husband's seafood risotto was presented beautifully and equally as fabulous to eat! I wouldn't recommend for children. We would return again in a heartbeat."

  • "Great place for lunch, but of the three dishes, the one that stood out was the crispy skin branzino, very delicious. Good portions as we were too full for dessert. But, they brought us little delicate cookies after, nice touch. Service was excellent."

  • "Wow. Amazing menu - especially the Chef's Tasting menu. Unfortunately, we didn't have enough time to try that, but can't wait to go back. All of our choices were originally thought to be "unusual" pairings of food/ sauces- BUT All Were Incredible!! We were all blown away by what was served to us. A++ rating from our group. Don't be afraid to try something that sounds a little different - it will be INCREDIBLE!! A little off the beaten path. Down 9th Ave like you were going to walk to the Lincoln Tunnel from 42nd, but still can't wait to go back!!"

  • "We were going to see billy Joel in concert...we reserved online for 6:15...I was called in the afternoon by the restaurant asking if we were going to a show...I told them yes and it started at 8pm...they recommended we come a little earlier to ensure we make the show and enjoy dinner...the food was fantastic and the service was great....very relaxing and enjoyable... Definitely recommend to anyone who enjoys fine dining"

  • "In spite of a "Grade Pending" rating posted in the window, Il Punto provided a fine Italian meal--good pasta, wonderful canolis, all served by most gracious staff."

  • "We went on a Friday night pre-theatre. The restaurant called earlier that day to suggest we get there at 6 so as not to be rushed. We sat down at 6:10 and ordered immediately. Our appetizers arrived at 6:20 ( including a delicious specialty house salad with strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries). Our main dishes did not arrive until 1 hour later! While the server and manager were very apologetic -- and comped us a glass of wine and 30% off the bill -- it didn't make for a relaxing pre-theatre meal. My husbands scallops weren't fully cooked (but we didn't have time to send them back) and my pasta with tomato, basil and formaggio sauce tasted words them Chef Boyardee. Overall a very disappointing experience."

  • "The restaurant was not as good as I expected. The food was just okay, not that special. The waiter was attentive and the service was fine. The atmosphere is nothing to write about."

  • "I think it's probably very good. Dined with some old friends and we chose the tasting menu. Kind of "fussy" for my tastes. I like my Italian food more on the rustico side. Very attentive and informed service without being obtrusive. Excellent and heavily Italian wine list."

  • "Whatever they've done here has elevated this restaurant from decent local Italian spot,to now a destination you will want to seek out. You'll need to walkalittke further down 9th ave than your probably used to but it's worth it This extraordinary new menu is thoughtful, complex and downright delicious don't expect your moms lasagna here. This is modern Italian: elevated!"

  • "$40 lunch tasting menu an incredible value. Three appetizers: shrimp salad with cipollini ice cream, mashed potato gnocchi in buffalo mozzarella cream, and tender, crispy grilled octopus exquisitely complemented by mortadella mousse, pear cream, and black olive. Primi: gnocchi with ragu of veal liver and caramelized fig, delicious combination of strong liver flavor with hint of sweetness. Secondi: perfectly roasted red snapper with artichoke and fennel Dessert: cannoli with creamy cheese filling infused with orange. Food is fresh, inventive, without being fussy. Server suggested a delicious biodynamic wine for $65 that went perfectly with the meal and reminded us of wines twice the price. Superb service. Truly memorable meal!"

  • "Il Punto has the best food and service in the area and all at a reasonable price. I had medium rare salmon, and it was cooked perfectly. The other 3 in our group were equally impressed. Good wine list, too"

  • "This restaurant used to be SO much better. It was one of our favorite places for about 10 years but it must be under new ownership because they completely changed the menu, and unfortunately not for the better. All of our favorite dishes are gone and they are trying too hard to be creative. We probably won't be back."

  • "We went here with friends because we were seeing a play nearby. Didn't know what to expect. It was great to be able to talk without shouting at one another. The ambience was pleasant. The waiter was helpful in selecting the food and wine. The food was really really good with interesting twists on some classicall dishes. My only complaint was the portion size for the appetizers were really small especially considering the price. I usually prefer smaller portions because I think sometimes restaurants make them too large so for me to complain they had to be really small portions. I'll be back hoping the restaurants does something to correct this one flaw because I really enjoyed everthing else."

  • "This restaurant offered us a convenient location, very good fresh food, and wait-staff that cared about our satisfaction. Despite forgetting one side dish, our waiter made it up in a complimentary dessert. There was ample quiet to have a good talk and we were never under pressure to move our dinner along to free up the table for someone else."

  • "The ambience and layout looks good when you walk in and the tables are not too crammed together, but the choice of background music was bizarre, the service was somewhat erratic, the olive oil and balsamic balloons they use are messy, the bread took much too long to come, my wine was off and my sea bass was not fresh. Maybe it was just an off night as they wouldn't survive long it it were always like that."

  • "Every plate that was served was so beautiful and balanced. The taste of everything that was served matched the presentation. The serving staff was just attentive enough; it was like choreography. Both of our visits here--a lunch and a dinner--have been relaxing and fulfilling."

  • "The food was exceptional and the menu impressive; my biggest complaint is that we didn't have time to enjoy the Valentine's Day Tasting Menu. But we will go back when we have more time and try their regular tasting menu."

  • "This was our first time to eat at il Punto. Our table was ready when we arrived. We mentioned we had show tickets, they asked what time our tickets were and were sensitive to the time. We also mentioned a dietary restriction when we made the on line reservation and they asked us about that immediately. Other than Open Table and Trip Advisor we knew nothing of this restaurant. We enjoyed everything about our experience. The food was excellent, the staff was very friendly and attentive, the presentation was beautiful. We will definitely eat here again."

  • "I knew being just south of Port Authority was a risk, since most businesses are closed in the evening and very little is available for dining in the area...however, right as you first arrive, the location is inviting, current, and friendly. The service was prompt, the food was outstanding (pollo punto was AMAZING - this was my guest's pick, as I never order chicken, and I would go back to have that dish myself!). Prices were reasonable for the amount of quality & selections."

  • "What a wonderful surprise to find this restaurant. Wanted a place near the Theatre district but not in it. Met friends from out of town and the food was delicious and very unusual - onion sorbet in the salad!! Wait service was outstanding. Can't wait to come back."

  • "We eagerly anticipate a new creation from Chef Antonio, which is why we return so often. There is always something new, exciting and pleasurable to be found. The candele pasta is an excellent winter dish and the chef's mother's recipe for amaretti is a terrific dessert. We also love the growing list of wines from the Calabria region of Italy."

  • "What a fantastic Italian restaurant! Il Punto combines attentive, personable, knowledgeable table service with a kitchen that is just out of this world. The restaurant has a bit of a formal feel to it, which was just perfect for the cuisine and professionalism of the staff. The pasta (I had a linguine) has a great texture to it, just the right amount of firmness and bite. The sauces and ragus have just perfect amounts of fresh tomato zing and seasoning."

  • "It was just two of us for dinner and we were treated like we weren't even there. There was a large party that was seated right after us and the entire restaurant staff was worried about them which meant our waters were empty, we had to flag down another server to get salt and pepper, and no one asked how our food was. If they had asked we would have sent our Filet Mignon back due to it being burnt black on the outside. We had to actually cut off all the edges in order to eat it. I would definitely look for another place to enjoy your meal in NYC."
