Diner Reviews
  • "Graet spot for lunch. Authentic Italian. I will be back for dinner."

  • "Great, great, great! Went before the theatre with 4 other friends and we all had a wonderful meal!"

  • "Perhaps the very best grilled calamari in the US! Sea bass was to die for. Exceptional service"

  • "We have been to Il Punto many times and our visit this week was another great experience. The service was exceptional, our waiter was knowledgeable, made a few good recommendations for appetizers and was able to give us a little information on the wine that we ordered. The chef sent out a tasting of a cold tomato basil soup that was quite good. The homemade gnocchis and brunzino (our main courses) were delicious. Dessert left a little to be desired as the tiramisu lacked flavor, we were also given a sample of several cookies and biscotti compliments of the house. We look forward to our next visit."

  • "This is a GEM, off the beaten “Broadway” path. Worth the extra few blocks walk. The meals are not just menu items, rather these are “creations” by a chef who obviously deservers a lot of credit. The prices are much lower than what you would pay in a more acclaimed restaurant, yet you receive items that are carefully crafted and taste great. Service is “tops”. I highly recommend this wonderful “find”."

  • "Great location near theater district. Our group had early dinner after a Saturday afternoon matinee performance. iL Punto was perfect."

  • "I love this place! The service is impeccable and the food is delicious. Please note, the menu was recently updated and there are many seafood, fish and meat selections, but no poultry is served during dinner service."

  • "We celebrated the birthdays of two cousins (96 & 97). Food & service & ambience were all exceptional!"

  • "We went to the restaurant with great expectations but left unfulfilled. The food served did not match the menu description including having hazelnuts and clams in their seafood salad, neither of which was listed in the description, leaving of diners being subjected to food allergies, or other adverse reactions. The atmosphere was very nice with complimentary soup started and a variety of cookies at the end. Not sure sure if we'll return."

  • "We've been several times. I can take my 80-year-old parents and know what to recommend, my wife and I can go for the wacky playfulness of the tasting menu, and my 10-year-old daughter demands their tagliolini with seafood as a treat when she gets REALLY good grades. Il Punto is one of those rare places where you can please foodies AND family, every time. They are used to serving theater-goers, so the service and timing of dishes can be any way you like them, from brisk to laid-back, just let them know."

  • "Amazing. There were 3 of us we shared and order of Fried Calamari w/3 sauces, tender and fresh. The pink sauce was our favorite. I had Gnocci with lamb ragout...outstanding, one daughter has the ink squid pasta with shrimp and scallops, Christmas Eve in the italian house all over, and my second daughter had a pasta with eggplant and ricotta salad cheese, delicious. For dessert we had strawberry sherbet, the best I ever had, a lemon sherbet and chocolate gelato, yummy! Before our meal was served they gave us a cold tomato soup so surprisingly good. After our desserts they gave us biscotti and truffles it was a very nice surprise. The staff was very helpful and pleasant. I would love to go back again."

  • "My family and I had a great time at Il Punto. From the service to decor to the food everything was wonderful. We were never rushed. Service was knowledgeable and attentive. The food was not only very tasty but the plate decorations were excellent. The atmosphere was very welcoming and inciting. A great place to go before the theater."

  • "The atmosphere is charming, warm, cosy, and elegant. The food is excellent. The service is superb. All three are very Italian. I had a beautiful stuffed calamari dish as an appetizer that was superb. My main course was Branzino that was cooked to fluffy perfection on a bed of tiny cubed vegetables with real flavor. The chef is creative and turning out dishes that are very special. The location is odd but also could be convenient if you need to be near Penn station. A surprising find in the area."

  • "What a hidden gem, staff is warm & friendly. Service is great ! Food is creative, fresh & delicous. Can't wait to go back. I really feel this is one of the best Italy restaurants we have been to. Five stars for sure."

  • "We had the tasting menu. The food was repetitious--too much fish coated in olives. We just kept waiting for a good meat course. The presentation was somewhat boring and formula. For example, repeated use of the slate plate. There was a liver ragout, which had a marvellous depth of flavour, but was diminished by the bitterness of the liver. While service was gracious, something just felt missing from the meal--it did not "wow" with perfection."

  • "It was a pleasant experience. Friendly staff and good food. Good selection of wines. We will go back. Walking distance to theaters."

  • "The food and service were excellent. The presentation was lovely. The street noise was intolerable! Constant horns blaring ! Perhaps it was the time of day on Saturday? 6-7:30 pre broadway show dinner. I would not return for this reason. My mother suggested they get soundproof walls! I think they should call the police and request an traffic officer outside during these peak times. Surely noise ordinances were being broken!"

  • "Found a keeper <5 min walk from the Port Authority ... Calamari and Chilean Sea Bass were awesome, served by friendly and attentive staff along with other goodies along the way. Easily surpassed my expectations ... I'll be back."

  • "We had the prix fixe for lunch at this small and charming restaurant. Before our meals came, we were offered a refreshing cold soup akin to gazpacho along with some delicious breads. I had a salad with an onion gelato while my husband had the gnocchi with cream sauce (like potato pancakes with sour cream!). We both had the risotto and mushrooms for our main course, served on a slate instead of a plate, and for dessert I had the mango and lemon sorbet with fruit while my husband tasted the panecotta with chocolate sauce on the side. Service was attentive in this out-of-the-ordinary but enjoyable restaurant."

  • "We made a reservation despite their temporary issue with the licensing board (a temporary technical NOT a health-safety issue). We were glad we did. Il Punto is warm and inviting. We were greeted warmly and made to feel at home. The wait staff is professional and took great care of us through the meal. We never felt rushed. From first to last we were in the hands of professionals. Every dish was superb. I'll highlight one: Gelato Insalata. Red onion gelato on a bed of arugula and along with perfectly cooked shrimp, berries and a hint of shaved Parmigiano Reggiano cheese. The gelato formed the dressing and the contrast of textures and temperatures was perfect. If you are in New York City be sure and eat at Il Punto. "

  • "We really enjoyed the food at il Punto. We started with the Misto di Salumi e Formaggi which was more than enough for the three in our party. My husband had scallops, my daughter had Chilean sea bass, and I had Lasagnetta della Casa. We also ordered asparagus and vegetables of the day. Everything was excellent. The service was also excellent. Our waiter was attentive to our needs. We would return and recommend this restaurant to everyone."

  • "I've been to Il Punto several times over the years and it's always a complete delight. As requested, they confirmed my Open Table reservation by phone. I had the prix fixe lunch and it was marvelous--well worth the money. Perfect for business/friend/romantic lunch or dinner."

  • "It's a bit off the beaten path, which is good (or bad depending on your view), was able to get 6:00 reservations at point of call on a Saturday, so we went...prices are not inexpensive, and thought they would reflect lower of being out of the way in NYC. $14 glasses of wine...complimentary cold tomato soup app, calamari multiple dipping sauces, three entrees (lasagna, seafood risotto - light on seafood...total $140...they did provide us with a complimentary 1/4 pour on the wine when we decided not to have dessert..nice touch. Service...very attentive. Food was not the best we had in any entrée...enjoyed the night, but will probably continue to search for our hidden gem."

  • "I return to Il Punto again and again, in part so I can try Chef Antonio's new creations, which chnge frequently. This time I had the daily Creations tasting menu which gave me a small taste of each appetizer, a primi, and a main course, with dessert. The snapper crudo was remarkable, fresh and flavorful, and the stuffed calamari was a treat. The tortelloni was excellent and the dentice was perfectly sized and prepared. Il Punto has secured its place as my favorite Italian restaurant in NYC."
