Diner Reviews
  • "This place is dependable for cooking, but our last visit, it was so noisy that it prompted my husband to say, "a good place to take your ex wife." We are happy for their success, but will not return unless it is after 9 PM. Still, a worthy place."

  • "IL Posto Trattoria has the best pizza pie. The crust light but not too crispy almost like a pastry dough. The sauce, cheese and meat was perfectly balanced without being too heavy and didn't leave me feeling stuffed after having one piece because it is too good to have just one piece. Delicious!"

  • "My second visit and it was a spontaneous dinner for our 10th wedding anniversary. The restaurant hosts a small dining room experience and lively atmosphere and usually packed with locals and tourists together. We sat at the wine and beer bar, sipped Pinot Noir and Chianti and chatted with some locals. We had an enjoyable meal of brussels sprouts and garlic bread as appetizers and then eggplant parmigiana and the seafood/pasta for dinner. The flavors were yummy. My eggplant was cooked just a bit on the dry side but it had a wonderful flavor. It was a great time! Jason the owner is always so friendly and welcoming which makes Il Posto Trattoria an extra special and intimate experience."

  • "We had dinner at Il Posto shortly after it opened and it was just ok. Friends recently had dinner there and raved about it so we decided to give it another try. We're very glad we did. It has improved significanlt. The food and service was very good, the noise level was far less intense and the wine list had a wide range of choices at reasonable prices....reasonable for Napa. We are looking forward to having a weekend lunch there and returning for dinner very soon."

  • "Frequented when the 1st opened. Happy to find authentic Italian dishes and good flavors. Didn't go back for about 1 yr & when I did, was sadly disappointed. Menu had changed - I was missing the octopus appetizer & black pasta dishes. Perhaps it was the disconnect with service. Server was nice, but would bring one thing out, forget another. Asked for a sauce for the app from a very tall man and he walked off but never returned. Service seemed awkward or off, as if they couldn't get into the groove. The food was good, but didn't taste as well because the experience was sub par. Strangely, there were only 4 tables and it was a Friday night. Whatever they were doing a year ago they should go back to. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

  • "We went for my husband's birthday dinner! The restaurant staff was friendly and the food was wonderful. We all tried something different but the favorites of the table were the gnocchi and the tortellini. The cannoli was also very fresh and yummy. Highly recommend as a wonderful neighborhood gem!"

  • "My husband had rigatoni & meatballs – IL Posto marinara, parmigiano. I had the spaghetti frutti di mare – clams mussels, shrimp, fennel, tomato, chiles. Both were wonderful!"

  • "Six of us local wine & food industry people dined at the Il Posto as a few the group had already been there a couple of times. Traditional Northern Italian with a little Napa flair. We shared a few apps as a group and salads before we each had are own entrée. Apps & salads were delicious, Beet Salad off the charts. Deep Fried Brussels Sprouts. Are you hungry yet? We even passed the entrees around so we could each try. Every dish was perfect and had great flavors. Corkage is $12 - Cant beat that. If you want to enjoy an awesome meal & wine and still have money left for tomorrow's dinner. Il Posto is my choice."

  • "The guys at IlPosto rock it every time. The food is always great and the service is top notch. While we have not had all the items on the menu what we have had has been perfect. When in Napa give it a try"

  • "Our experience at Il Posto was outstanding. It was so nice to discover a restaurant where we live that has excellent food and service at reasonable prices that's also not crowded with tourists. If you like really great Italian food in a friendly atmosphere, this is the place."

  • "Valentines Day - Food was very good but, maybe even excellent but it wasn't exceptional. Menu was limited to Prix Fixe choices and was a bit limited in scope. Service was exceptional - very attentive but not intrusive. Ambience could be strengthened with table clothes and a 10% reduction in seats. It's a bit close for intimacy thus I did not give it the "romance" label."

  • "On open tables website the menu did not reflect what Il Posto offered. We were very disappointed with the fact the restaurant only gave us 2 options, 3 course meal for $60.00 or 4 course meal for $75.00. Not everyone wants a 3 course meal. We felt that the restaurant took full advantage of the fact it was Valentines Day. The food was good and as always, the service was great but disappointed in the forced menu change."

  • "We went on valentines day, I think it was a mistake, it was a set menu 3 or 4 . We felt very rushed, I don't go to dinner to be pushed in and out. Maybe on another night this would not be a problem. Food was great, service very good. I would try the restaurant again but not on valentines day. White table cloth, good wine list, food was out of this world. One of the best I have had in a while."

  • "This was my second time at this restaurant, the first was incredible; probably one of the best meals I've ever had, this time was awful. It seems that valentines day they made the decision to not only force the customers to spend a ridiculous amount of money by structuring a menu of of two choices but to also cram more tables into an already over crowded mini restaurant. I could hear every conversation going on around me but not a thing my date was saying just across the table. I'll probably not be returning, I felt like a was just a sheep there to be fleeced."

  • "I've been here once before and I thought everything was really nice. The best quality of this restaurant is it's warm and inviting ambiance plus the amazing service they provide. The waiter we had was friendly and extremely attentive in a genuine way. I've visited a lot of restaurants in Napa, however Il Posto has a genuine and friendly quality about it that stands out from the rest of the Valley. I recommend this place for it's outstanding service."

  • "I am hesitant to post this review because it is already hard to get reservations at the wonderful local restaurant. We often bring guests from out of town to this great spot for their outstanding pastas and dinner items - which are reminiscent of my Italian grandmother's Sunday night meals! The wait staff are knowledgable and willing to accommodate special requests. They have a solid wine list and they also honor Napa Neighbors if you want to bring in a bottle of your own. We give it two thumbs up!"

  • "After a long day of wine tasting, we were looking for something moderately priced and close to our hotel. Il Posto Trattoria definitely fit our needs. We were seated promptly upon arrival. Service was quick and friendly. I ordered the special stuffed port belly which turned out to be a delicious as described. The next table was a family with children. The owner spent time visiting with them. It made the experience seem very casual and homey. Only downside was the guests with a dog dining across the room. Maybe allowed in California, not where I come from. Just a little disconcerting. We would definitely return and recommend to friends."

  • "This little gem is the perfect place for a first date and a regular "date night". The food changes on occasion but they tend to keep the same sort of theme. The brussel sprouts are phenomenal and the wine list is above average. The owner is most often in attendance and very attentive. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and helpful especially in regards to food allergies. I come here at least once every couple of months as it is close to home. I look forward to my next visit."

  • "Thursday night visit, not a large crowd, attentive service, excellent food, highly recommend for locals and Napa visitors looking for tasty food and not a crowded hot spot."

  • "Located in The Ranch Market Plaza, this neighborhood Italian restaurant is small and the décor is definitely circa 1970’s (cinderblock walls, garlic braids) but the food and service more than make up for the lack of ambiance. Great casual place for dinner- every table was full of families, friends and neighbors, which made it very loud inside. Would not bring a date hear unless you want to yell!"

  • "A small restaurant in a tiny old shopping area right off of highway 29. Service was efficient and friendly. You get the feeling like you're part of the family at this restaurant. We started with the past e fagioli soup. YUMMY! I ordered the fluffy ricotta gnocchi sauteed and served with bolognese and it was delicious. The small order of this with the brussel sprouts made for a perfect meal. My husband ordered the chicken piccata. It was a good portion and perfectly seasoned, served with farro. Kudos to having decent wines on the by-the-glass menu."

  • "A New Year's Prix Fix Menu included some good choices - the Lobster Risotto w/Myer Lemon was tasty - Lobster was a tad scant. We requested a cab to be called for our ride home and our server put a call into a cab service when our main dish came out so we wouldn't have to wait - the cab was timely - however, we did leave some dessert and drinks on the table - but that was ok."

  • "We two ordered a mixed seafood pasta dish with a pesto sauce, and eggplant parmigiana. The seafood pasta with pesto sauce was really very good. The eggplant parmigiana was unremarkable, not so great. THE SERVICE was great, though, and the wines were excellent. I recommend Il Posto Trattoria. It was relatively crowded, but the staff moved efficiently and handled themselves very well."

  • "After several days of wine drinking and several nights eating in restaurants that "other people" told us to eat, we looked for a place where locals ate. We landed at Il Posto on our last night in Napa. Pulling into a small strip mall on the west side of the railroad tracks, we wondered if we had made a mistake. We had not. This unassuming Italian restaurant had everything we wanted: terrific food, a warm atmosphere, very good service, and a business-like wine selection. It might not be for everyone, but it should be if you are looking for the alternative to the French Laundry and it's price tag. Go, relax, and just unwind over good food and your own conversation. Have fun."

  • "I ordered a type of shrimp rice combo and don't recall the name but I found it very good but was not satisfied with the shrimp in the dish. I thought I would be able to fish out the shrimp but I could not see them. I did get a couple of shrimp but I guess whatever shrimp was in the plate was cut up or diced which was somewhat of a disappointment. Other than that my wife and I enjoyed the evening since we go to Il Posto regularly and have always found it a pleasant Restaurant. We live in the neighborhood and have frequented the restaurant sine you opened. You asked for my comment so there it is."
