This was my first visit to Il Porto, having been to Landini Brothers several times. The atmosphere, service, food, and wine are all fist class. It's a great place for a romantic date or a classy dinner out with friend or family. Search the wine list and you'll be able to find good deals for under $50.

Il Porto is located right in the heart of King Street making it a really neat location for a meal. The food was outstanding, though the house salad was a little plain for my taste. The broiled salmon with lobster cream sauce was perfectly prepared and the spaghetti sauce was one of the best we've tasted. The service was only mediocre however. We were initially put off by the busser who "threw" the silverware and bread plates on the table. We thought he was mad about us being seated before the table was set, but then we saw him do it on all the other tables. His heavy hand at setting tables was a little distracting throughout our meal. Our main server was adequate, getting everything right, but not being very attentive. Overall, it was a great meal and maybe we came in on an "off" night for service. Nonetheless the restaurant is darling and the location can't be beat.

The food and service here was outstanding and the restaurant overall had a very warm, historical feel. The price for the amount of good was very reasonable for Old Town and the wine list was filled with a great selection. I would recommend highly and plan to go back.

  • Best calamari in a long time

    Dined on 11/3/2014
I've been eating at Il Porto for years but their new chef is adding some very touches to the menu. We split the calamari which is the best I've had in a long time. It was cooked perfectly with a very light breading and a tangy marinara sauce. I cook eat that sauce on everything! I had crabmeat stuffed shrimp that was delicious. I'm looking forward to my next visit to try more menu items.

Family and Life Long friends wanted to gather and have lunch at a restaurant where we could be sure of great food, service and also a place where we could carry on a conversation and catch up with what is happening in our lives. No better place than one of our favorites - Il Porto. We were not disappointed. The food, service and conversation all went as planned. Each of us found our food tasty and well presented. We will be back - Soon!

Nice place, good food, friendly service. I had to laugh when I asked what the soup of the day was: the waiter said "clam chowder", and when I asked if it was Manhattan or New England, he said "it's the creamed kind; which one is that?" I was a bit nonplussed that a waiter would not know something so basic, but in no way did this diminish our enjoyment. And the level of service was perfectly fine. Oh, and I did not get the soup; stick with Italian at an Italian place, right? :-)

We were a few minutes late for our reservation time, and even though our table had been given away, or marked as a "no-show," the staff still accommodated us on what seemed a very busy holiday weekend. It was the end of service so maybe my review isn't entirely fair, but I think the service was lackluster. The restaurant was almost entirely empty on a Friday night at 9 PM. We had some decent food and drink, but the restaurant kind of resembled a caricature of an Italian restaurant. Maybe it's older and its kitsch is authentic, but I somehow doubt it.

We always enjoyed Il Porto in the '80's. We were in town this past week-end for a family reunion & my husband & I needed an evening meal after the big gathering. We both said, "Il Porto!" We made the reservation on the Smart Phone & it was on the money when we arrived. We were seated @ a "Starlight Table" as we were able to see all the comings & goings in the dining room. My husband had the escargot, bubbling hot, garlicy, & buttery with lovely Italian bread for dipping. The house salad was tasty v & o dressing. I had the veal picatta, lovely, a nice lemony-caper sauce. I had a side of beef ravioli in red sauce which was, by far, the best I have ever eaten! The linguini & calms in the white wine sauce was superb.

We had a small company gathering of 14 people and eveyone agreed that the food and service was great. Only complaint was where we sat there was another large party right behind us and it seemed the two parties were competeing in conversations. And the area we were was a bit tight for two large parties. This is normal for me, I come from a large Italian family, but others felt a little crammed in and had a tough time hearing others talk.

None of us were particularly impressed with our dishes. The food was fairly mediocre across the board ranging from the bread and salad they served with the meal to the meal itself and the dessert. The lackluster food was offset by the very nicely appointed restaurant (especially on the second floor) and the very good service of the wait staff.

Sometimes restaurants treat you a little different when you dine during restaurant week. Il Porto had a nice selection of entrees and came through with the traditional Italian selections and atmosphere. I have food allergies and the waiter was accommodating in switching out the RW dessert selections for something I could eat. This restaurant has been around for a long time and it was nice to see that it was there and offered good food.

We were greeted by Kevin who showed us to our favorite in the window. Table 105. Our server, Jay was prompt and efficient. We were introduced to two new staff members. They will make a good addition to the restaurant. We will be back. Il Porto also has a great new brunch menu. Give it a try.
