Located in the charming historic village of Tappan New York, Il Portico has received National Landmark status. Built in the early 1850's, it once served as a stagecoach stop and hotel offering weary travelers accommodations for 3 cents a night! The atmosphere is warm and romantic.   • "We chose this restaurant for New Year's Eve for the second year in a row and are happy we did. The food was very good and the service attentive. It is a lovely little place to have a fine meal and a good cocktail or glass of wine. We recommend Il Portico."

  • "This restaurant used to be delightful. However... for New Year's Eve ($75 pp prix fixe .... dinner only): no flowers on the tables (2 balloons!). Three slices of ordinary bread and 3 thin slices of butter. Appetizer was mostly onion and celery with a few bits of lobster. The steak was tough. The champagne no where near chilled. The young woman bussing tables kept asking if we were "still working on that". I was so embarrassed that I had told my friend to expect a gourmet evening. Well....it USED TO BE like that. What in the world happened?"

  • "I wasn't from the area. We were attending a conference in Tarrytown and found them thru Opentable. My wife has to be gluten free and mentioned this when securing the reservation. They not only accomodated her, but called my cell phone to see what her needs were and made some suggestions that she might like. When we arrived, they again recognized her request and were extremely nice and helpful. Went way above and beyond what I've experienced at most restaurants. Drinks were out of sight and the food was excellent. But it was there service in a caring and attentive fashion that really made this place stand out. I wish it were closer to home. I'd recommend it in a heartbeat."

  • "My wife and I returned to IL Portico after a five year absence. The food and service was excellent. We started with a scallop and prosciutto appetizer which was tasty and beautifully presented. I had a pork ossobuco special which was moist and tasty. My wife had the red snapper special and she was equally pleased. The setting in a historical house is simply charming. My only complaint was that on the chilly autumn day that we were there, the inside temperature was chilly. Several patrons were wearing t outerwear. Although we arrived at 5:30 p.m, when the restaurant was opening, IL Portico was not prepared to satisfy its patrons comfort."

  • "This was my first time to Il Portico arriving with a party of 5. Some of our family had been here before and highly recommended it. I was not let down. The service was just perfect. The waiter knew when to leave us alone and when to tend to our table. He was very friendly and fun with our table. The food was absolutely delicious. Eating italian food out is often difficult for all of us as we have picky tastes coming from our own italian households. We all loved our food, just the right amount of sauces and not overdone at all. I will say the portions were large enough that all but one of us took food home. If I'm in the area again, I'd definitely return!"

  • "This past Saturday was our 1st visit & for the most part thought this was a nice place......except for the table of 8 loudmouths we were seated next to. These were the loudest, rudest, most inconsiderate snobs who, by their actions, believed they owned the restaurant. This happens all too often in many restaurants. I firmly believe that it is incumbent upon management to request a moderate demeanor from larger groups. Why do the characters with the biggest mouths choose to talk to the other loudmouths at the opposite end of the table? Oh, I forgot to mention the three hens, who, were on their cell phones and yelling to their lame husbands, segments of their conversations. Too bad ........."
