A word from Il Pittore
Nestled on a small side street at the edge of Rittenhouse Square, Il Pittore brings the romantic spirit of Italy to Philadelphia. Its quaint ambiance, created by rich woods, hand-painted murals and a rooftop herb garden, invokes the cozy feeling of a villa in the Italian countryside. Highly acclaimed Chef Chris Painter uses his culinary artistry to bring the fresh flavors of Italian ingredients to a truly modern menu. To accompany your meal, our sommelier will adeptly assist you with a selection from our 200 bottle Italian wine list. On the first floor, a dining counter for 12 and a communal table for 8 bring people together in a vibrant social setting to share a glass of wine and a bowl of pasta. The main dining room on the second floor provides guests with a more traditional a la carte dining experience. A large bay window, skylight, communal table and comfortable banquette seating set the mood for a memorable meal. We look forward to your visit. Ciao and grazie! Continued

  • "Everything about this restaurant is wonderful, but only go if you're willing to spend a LOT of time along with a lot of money. We waited an hour or more between courses. Our meal took three hours, and it was a Tuesday night. It was delicious, and ridiculous."

  • "This was a wonderful place to spend my birthday. Aside from the pastas bring "to die for", everyone that greeted us, whether it was at reception, wait staff, etc. Recognized my birthday and made me feel special. Service was outstanding and food very well prepared. Just wish we didn't have a large party next to us, but I did ask for a table by the window, so groups have to sit somewhere. Great dinner."

  • "I thought I knew what Italian food was but I was in for a pleasant surprise. The food was quite unique from the roast pig to the broshetta with mushrooms that was exceptional. The waiter was knowledgable about the dishes to a level I have rarely seen. Although not inexpensive, I felt it was well worth it."

  • "From the moment we walked in the door, we were greeted by friendly people! We were going to Helium Comedy Club and our server made sure we arrived on time and made excellent dinner suggestions. There was nothing specific to point out because it was simply EXCELLENT. I had an issue with a pending root canal & our server made recommendations that I would be able to eat and enjoy my meal. They even made sure I had "room temperature" water. The food is unique & quite delicious. The atmosphere is so relaxing. The staff was wonderful. Will definitely be returning."

  • "Fantastic – this is one of the best Italian restaurants in Philly. Each preparation was perfect. Fresh made pastas were excellent – my wife had the Swiss chard & cheese filled ravioli & I had the goat braised corzetta. The slow cooked suckling pig was incredible as was the roasted rack of rabbit. The parking arrangement with the near-by parking lot is good deal. We will be back!"

  • "First time at Il Pittore. We loved it and will absolutely go again. Each course was well-described, beautifully presented and had a perfect combination of ingredients."

  • "One would think something made of wheat, egg and water would always end up flawless but not so. Such attribute is none so manifest at our last visit at Il PIttore. We tried the Tasting Menu there a year ago and gave it a second go recently. Though the second visit was not a disappointment, there were many hits or misses this time. The pasta they called tajarin consisted of very thin strands (thinner than Angel's Hair) which just did not justify its raison d'etre - why not just serve us spaghetti? There was a "postage stamp"-looking pasta which was a bit too high on the salt-meter and too low on flavor. The roasted scallop appetizer came with a pea emulsion and the two textures (the cuddly scallop and the gritty pea mixture) simply clashed."

  • "Our entire experience was enjoyable. The staff was very friendly and our food and drinks were perfectly detailed."

  • "Incredible food and ambiance but the portions were EXTREMELY small. Almost ridiculous. Everything we ate was top notch- all amazing creations..but for the money, the portions should have been bigger. Unfortunate disappointment."

  • "The food was outstanding, but what I really have to rave about is the service. Three gentlemen regularly and promptly appeared at out table for any needs-- clearing plates, refilling water, resetting the places, etc. It really made it feel like a special dining experience. Kevin was our primary server, and he was very charismatic and attentive. If I could give Il Pittore 10 stars out of five for service, I would!"

  • "I took my mother here for a nice evening out and we decided to have the chef's tasting menu with wine pairings. While tasting menus can be a bit pricey - this one was definitely worth it. We had a sampling of the best they had to offer and the pairings were fantastic! Surprisingly both of our favorite was their asparagus soup - wow, it was so rich and creamy ... trying to replicate it for myself! The service was fantastic, attentive and we never wanting for anything. They didn't rush us through our meal at all."

  • "The food was delicious, the service was amazing. Il Pittore is among the finest Italian restaurants in Philadelphia, featuring creative dishes, knowledgeable servers, and a very well-paced experience. The setting is quite wonderful, however, with so many hard surfaces, it does get a little bit noisy. I will absolutely be coming back!"

  • "My son and I had dinner at Il Pittore and it was wonderful! The short ribs and beef tenderloin were melt in your mouth delicious! The pasta and desserts equally wonderful. Add in great service and you can't go wrong. Best meal all year!"

  • "This was our third time at the restaurant and it was just as good. The staff was great. We had the same waiter again and he was just as attentive to our needs. He made the dinner even better."

  • "I had gone to Il Pittore for my 25th birthday with three other friends. It was amazing! Beautiful white linen table clothes, an extensive list of Italian wines, and a mouth watering menu. We started off with the lamb sausage which was deliciously unique. We then ordered two pasta dishes to share- the lobster tortellini and a gnocci special. Both were amazing, just enough for each person to have a few bites. For dinner, my boyfriend had the suckling pig which was unlike anything I've ever had. It had a crispy outside, and the meat just fell apart in your mouth. Me and my girlfriend both had the Fluke which was simple, fresh, and delicious. Our last guest had the Cod which he enjoyed- but preferred the flavor of our Fluke."

  • "My new favorite. Every element is just right. The food is superb, with a diversity of choices; I'm a little picky, I like my meat and pasta, my wife likes fish, but we always find something creative and tasty. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, responsive but not hovering, with management that always swings by once to check and make sure your experience is a good one. Good wine list (I wouldn't say the best list in all of Philadelphia but certainly plenty of choices for most wine drinkers) and my favorite cocktail (the Riviera, a margarita with grapefruit liqueur (try it!). And a very attractive, kind of modern interior; upstairs with the skylights is really nice for a sunny early evening. Superb meal & you'll feel well cared for."

  • "il Pittore was recommended to me by a friend who stated that it was a quiet winner. In other words: a hidden gem. My experience completely lived up to that expectation. It simply was the best Italian meal I've ever had complimented by excellent service. I am definitely going back and make il Pittore one of the usual spots I go to eat in Philadelphia. I recommend you do the same."

  • "I invited two professional colleagues. One was visiting from a different city. Both raved about the food, service, and physical environment. Sarah was outstanding - very professional and personable. Each course was unique and delicious! I have been here many times with my spouse but this was the first "business" dinner here. It was a resounding success!"

  • "We are French and it was simply the best italian restaurant we ever had. Very honest prices compared to the quality of food. Many references of good italian wines."

  • "They have some great pastas. There are amazing ingredients, but the some of the main courses lack flavor. Never truly impressed there. Great service."

  • "Everyone from the hostess to the server was friendly, not too overbearing but extremely fast and attentive. We had no less than 4 different individuals stop to clean plates, refill water, and inquire about our meal. Food was great but the service was remarkable!!"

  • "We arrived at 8:25 our reservation was at 8:30. The hostess told us that we were early (this should have been my first sign). We waited until 10:15 for our main course. When we asked why the wait, the server responded,"This is a fine dining restaurant expect to wait up to 2 hours for your food." I was utterly dumbfounded by her response. Fine dining??? If she had told the truth that would have been one thing. We did not order a tasting menu which would explain a wait with courses. At that point, we flagged someone else down and they apologized and gave us free dessert and liqueur. The problem was that all we really wanted to do was leave. The free dessert and liqueur prolonged everything. The food was good, the service terrible."

  • "I researched all the hot new restaurants in Philadelphia from the last two years and picked Il Pittore to try. I was so lucky!!! Amazing service, food and atmosphere!!! Would go again in a second!!"

  • "The food was okay and the service was below satisfactory. It took 45 minutes to order and then we were told they were out of the special for a Saturday night. Our waitress never checked in to see how we were doing with our meal and was awkward. The ambiance was nice and it was in a good location of Philadelphia."

  • "From the initial greeting we knew this place was special. My girlfriend and I enjoyed a romantic and fun evening to say the least. The food was absolutely amazing, and the service was very friendly and helpful. We will definitely be coming back, and I highly recommend for a special night out."

  • "Pace of food service a little too fast for us. First course arrived before we had finished our 'pre-dinner' cocktails. Perhaps this is cultural? It has happened regularly in other restaurants across the US too."

  • "You will not go wrong!! This is an outstanding restaurant. Great food. The pasta is unique and the sauces not your standard red sauce. Roasted Pig is the best in town. Terrific fish dishes and the specials are always meld unique flavors and textures. Terrific wine list. The staff is engaging and boy do they know their stuff. They will enlighten you on the wine selections and assist you in pairings with the food. Service is beyond reproach. This is a restaurant to visit. I assure you .....you will return. We did and we will be back. "

  • "I have been here twice and both experiences were great. The food is so sophisticated and really innovative. The food comes from Italian roots but every menu item here is so progressive that they all taste like something you've never tried before. My boyfriend and i ordered then 3 cheese plate for an appetizer, 2 pastas, one entree, and one dessert both times we've been here and we were stuffed. Every item was so delicious and I highly recommend the crispy pork belly and the short rib as entrees. The gnocchi is also a favorite. But what makes this restaurant so wonderful is the ambiance and the service. The waiters are so experienced, attentive, and knowledgable about every item. This is one of my favorite restaurants in Philadelphia."

  • "Went here recently for the second time and was disappointed. First time was last year and Food was excellent. Upon returning, the same dishes I had before were swimming in finishing oil. Not just one dish but all of our dishes were drizzled with so much olive oil it was overkill. it made everything not only taste the same but was a turn off. We left a lot of our dishes unfinished. Two of the pasta dishes were very over salted as well. Service both times was excellent but something has changed in the kitchen."
