A word from Il Mulino Uptown
For nearly 35 years, Il Mulino New York has prepared authentic Abruzzese cuisine with unparalleled service.

There’s no place like Il Mulino New York. The luxury Italian restaurant’s flagship Greenwich Village outpost initiated New York’s fine Italian dining trend and is still prized in the city’s elite dining scene. Zagat has rated Il Mulino New York as Manhattan’s No. 1 Italian restaurant for decades and has said the restaurant provides "one-of-a-kind" cuisine filled with delicious flavors, creating an "outstanding Italian classic" restaurant where "every dish is a masterpiece."

Executive Chef Michele Mazza, who hails from Naples, Italy, has proudly carried this tradition since 2003. Fresh ingredients, artistic preparation and impeccable service distinguish Il Mulino New York as one of the world’s premiere restaurants. In addition to fine dining, Il Mulino New York provides excellent off-site catering and products.

Diner Reviews
  • "Il Mulino is the epitome of NYC dining. It transports you straight to Italy the moment you cross the threshold. You are greeted with warm smiles from the entire staff before you have even reached your seat. Once you have been seated you immediately are offered bread, fresh cheese right off the wheel, salami, and wine. We then were served our appetizer (we had meatballs) they were the special and were simply divine. Our dinners were simply unforgettable. It is the best Italian food I have ever had the pleasure of eating. That is saying a lot since I have dined in Italy and in the Sicilian kitchen of two grandmothers. It doesn't get better than Il Mulino!"

  • "We really had a spectacular dinner all around. What a great atmosphere, great service, and great food and wine! The greatest surprise was that it was possible to get a fresh, warm Zabaglione over fresh berries for dessert. Just perfect! Thank you!"

  • "too many waiters grabbing food, clearing plates, from my table every 5 seconds...geeezzz let me eat and relax! staff was annoyingly overly attentive to the point of making you feel like you were being rushed out."

  • "Impossible to even see the menu without your IPhone flashlight. Literally had a waiter hand us a pen light. Other than that faboulous as usual"

  • "Generous ambience. Before you can say "may I....." you are presented with a hunk of gorgeous cheese from a wheel brought round by a server, a lovely plate of caponata and bruschetta and another of salami coins to amuse your bouche. The restaurant week menu brought extremely generous and tasty portions of linguine with clams for both of us, an outstanding veal entree for me, most of which went home because I had leave as much room as I could for the chocolate cake and excellent cappuccino. Oh, did I mention the variety of delicious bread? Clearly, Il Mulino wants to make you very happy. They will."

  • "Il Mulino's newest location Uptown has a different atmosphere, but the food, service and ambiance is as impeccable as its first beloved location. We went for lunch (dinner reservations are next to impossible) and it was tremendous. Lobster ravioli, trout, bruschetta, grilled eggplant, garlic focaccia... All amazing. Pretty expensive ($100 a head without wine) but so worth it."

  • "I usually don't write reviews but this restaurant is in my top ten of all time. Great attentive service and unreal food."

  • "This was our first visit to the Il Mulino Restaurants. We thought it was perfect. Lovely complimentary starters included a tomato basil bruschetta, a ragout of zucchini, a "chunk" of fresh Parmesan and assorted breads. The wine list was excellent with varied and reasonable prices. I had a pasta entree and it was delicious with wonderful spices and perfectly cooked pasta. All in all it was a wonderful evening and we will go back!"

  • "The food was excellent. They brought us nice sides to start. But the waiter was sort of like a used car salesman. Pushing appetizers and sides. Wasn't taking no thank you for an answer. The prices of the wines were obscene. Double or triple what you would pay in any other restaurant. The worst part was the tiny tables. I was at a table for four and there was barely any room for plates on the table. It was uncomfortably tight."

  • "This is a NYC mainstay, so it is unfortunate that our chicken entree was prepared like something from a cafeteria. It was a business lunch. There were three of us, and none of us could eat more than half of it. It was embarrassing, as I was entertaining an out-of-town business associate from Geneva. I won't go back."

  • "Coming from an Italian family in Brooklyn I must say that the food is unbelievable. I love that they give you samples to eat when you first sit. my only negative is that it's sooo dark. the waiters actually carry little flashlights so you can see the menu"

  • "Before you have a chance to order, the superlative service places a host of various breads, olives, cheese and fried zucchini on the table which is extremely tight for four people. The food is good, restaurant crowded, noisy and menu prices are in the atmosphere."

  • "Perfection from the moment you sit down till the moment you leave! The service was outstanding and the food was incredible! This restaurant should be on the top of everyone's list, a place to go and walk away with a smile and a warm feeling of good."

  • "Classic Italian done right..... Welcoming staff, and tasty opening table treats. Deliciously well prepared entrees, and attentive service made for a great evening. Can't wait to return..... Please open in the east 90's!"

  • "now have been to all of the Il Mulino's except the one in LI, and other than the one in Florida, just great.."

  • "My boyfriend liked his meal - octopus salad then veal chop. I had a tasteless endive. I asked for salt because salt and pepper shakers weren't on the table. I had veal scallopinni which wasn't tender and for the price charged was outrageous. They did bring a complementary limoncello which was a nice touch. When the bill came the price of the veal chop was $10 more than on the menu. They had charged for the special which my boyfriend didn't have. The waiter started to argue but then went back to change the price. I would not return to this restaurant. There are many Italian restaurants in NYC which have much better food."

  • "While I'm used to the pastas and seafood bring excellent here, the Dover sole at $70 is a disappointment. It has little flavor and tasted steamed more than grilled. Opt for the yummy appetizers and pastas. Service is always gracious and friendly. I do recommend this place very highly."

  • "Food was very good. Service was extremely polished. First time visit, but regulars treated us like friends. Would go back, as there were many things on the menu that looked fantastic and an extraordinary amount of specials for lunch service."

  • "I went to Il Mulino Uptown to celebrate my 36th birthday. I had known about the Greenwich location for years and knew I was in for an amazing dinner experience. ($185 for two before tip). I was concerned that the speed of the evening would be rushed, based on other reviews I have read. I simply informed the waiter that we were not in any hurry, and he obliged us. The service is outstanding with servers and busers zooming all around. You are served literally as soon as you sit down w/ many tupes of bread, antipasti, cheese, etc. We ordered appetizer, salad, pasta, dessert and we were stuffed. Definitely will return for the ambience, quality of food and service, as well as overall experience. A real NYC night out type of place! Job well done!"

  • "Amazing restaurant both food and service. It is pricey but worth it especially special occasion. This is a must go to restaurant. They bring special dishes when you sit down which are super. No need for appetizers. Awesome wine list."

  • "First of all the name Il Mulino means something in NYC. This is NOT what it is hyped up to be. The food was mediocre and overpriced. If you can, go to the original restaurant downtown don't be fooled by them having the same name."

  • "The food was outstanding , I liked the crudités put on the table when we sat down. The veal chop was outstanding --most unusual but very simple. The waiter was very good on recommendations, service good, and the best tiramisu was the best in a long while. As a previous New Yorker now living in Boston I was glad to see that there have been no changes at this fine restaurant"

  • "We had a great lunch. Everything was perfect. There is lots of room between tables. The meal was as good as our first one downtown 32 years ago."

  • "Went to Il Mulino's uptown for first time. Been to East Village and Vegas restaurants so expected great food. The staff is excellent. The restaurant has a great ambience and the food is second to none. Four of us each had different menu items and were very pleased. Once you sit, you are presented with several complimentary appetizers that are great. The waiter suggested a 3 pasta appetizer which was phenomenal. There were so many specials I don't know why they bother with the menu. Dessert was awesome too. There is only one drawback. It is expensive. For special occasions and an occasional high end night, I highly recommend it, but I do warn you - the bill is higher than any high end restaurant I have been to."

  • "My family & I had Christmas dinner here. Although a little pricey, the food was worth it. It's hard to believe that the food can taste that much differently from Italian restaurant to Italian restaurant, but the food here was truly incredible. The service, however, was less than I hoped for. Our main waiter was extremely short & rude; perhaps because it was Christmas & he wanted to go home, but regardless, he was not pleasant & definitely did not give the service I expected from a restaurant of this caliber. Luckily, the rest of the staff was very friendly & gave great service. One of the assisting servers even took it upon himself to take 4 pictures from different angles of us when we asked for a picture. Overall, we would go back."

  • "While dark and tight on space, food here was amazing.. Don't think ever had as good service, four waiters practically fighting to keep your glasses full.. Bread and cheeses on arrival was an experience.. Just keep some room for mains!! Defo return in next trip to NY!!"

  • "Delicious from the appetizers to dessert. If you don't want to deal with the hustle and bustle of the lunch crowd in the theatre district- this is the place! Relaxing and delicious and a short walk to shopping and other sites. They start you with a very satisfying complimentary antipasti which was a delight. Lots of specials to choose from my family totally enjoyed. I also appreciated the half portions available on the menu!"

  • "Great food! Multiple staff members were asking us the same questions, for drinks, coffee, etc. I felt a bit rushed so I asked the waiter to give us some time, which he did and didn't ask again until we flagged him down. Our table was in a high traffic area and I would specifically ask to not sit on the side next to the bar again, too much of a nuisance. Overall great food though."

  • "The Il Molino in Chicago was wonderful. Take your time; eat; ambience terrific. This was like it was cattle herding. We ordered a very expensive bottle of wine and were rushed through our meal. The kicker was when the waiter checked to see if we left our credit card in the bill presented 3 times In 5 minutes. I would never recommend this place to anyone. Others were also complaining."

  • "I love Il Mulino & have eaten at several of the others. I prefer the uptown location over the other NY location. You get seated faster, service is faster & bar service is great. Food is fantastic- highly recommend."

  • "The food at Il Mulino could not have been better. Our party loved the antipasto that is served prior to the meal. The service on the other hand could not have been worse. The hostess / manager stood in the back talking with what appeared to be friends for over 10 minutes while people were standing at the front waiting to be seated. While there were many servers coming to our table with water and antipasto, our waiter did not take our drink order for almost 15 min after we were seated. We finally got our 2nd glass of wine after we finished our meal because he forgot to bring it to us. He visited our table a total of 3 times in the hour and a half we were seated there and only after we asked for him. Wonderful food - horrible service."

  • "Food was excellent but a bit expensive for the ambiance which lacked in every way. Service very rushed. The restaurant's tables were very crowded and there were almost too many service staff members meandering in and out of the tables. I felt as if they wanted my 5:30 pm table reservation out by 6:30 pm. Very uncomfortable feeling when I wanted to relax with my wife on my birthday."

  • "Warm welcoming hosts. Food appears the minute you sit down to enjoy while ordering wine and considering wonderful menu and specials. Service is excellent. Great for fun intimate dinners with good friends or family. Traditional dishes as well as great new ideas with traditional ingredients. Like being in Italy."
