A word from Il Mulino New York
For nearly 35 years, Il Mulino New York has prepared authentic Abruzzese cuisine with unparalleled service.

There’s no place like Il Mulino New York. The luxury Italian restaurant’s flagship Greenwich Village outpost initiated New York’s fine Italian dining trend and is still prized in the city’s elite dining scene. Zagat has rated Il Mulino New York as Manhattan’s No. 1 Italian restaurant for decades and has said the restaurant provides "one-of-a-kind" cuisine filled with delicious flavors, creating an "outstanding Italian classic" restaurant where "every dish is a masterpiece."

Executive Chef Michele Mazza, who hails from Naples, Italy, has proudly carried this tradition since 2003. Fresh ingredients, artistic preparation and impeccable service distinguish Il Mulino New York as one of the world’s premiere restaurants. In addition to fine dining, Il Mulino New York provides excellent off-site catering and products.

Diner Reviews
  • "The pasta was in general too salty, and we actually needed the Spaghetti Carbonara to be remade due to its excessive saltiness. The waiter was "kind" enough to offer us half-portion for 4 different types of pasta dishes ($16/half-portion vs. $27/full-portion) without telling us the additional costs in advance. It's perfectly OK if he informed us of such costs early on. We complained about it and the waiter gave us some attitude before adjusting the check for us. Overall, one should expect more from IL MULINO. Our dining experience there was not too pleasant."

  • "This is our third time dining at one of the Il Mulino restaurants. The service and food was outstanding. Everything we had we ate was great and the head waiter treated us like we were his family. I don't know how you could have a better meal."

  • "Very enjoyable experience. Food and Service were top notch."

  • "Had not been here in years; sadly they're costing on their reputation. Great freebies (zucchini, garlic bread, etc) but that doesn't make up for an overcooked $75 Dover sole (ala carte) or a tasteless $50 osso bucco. Disappointing overall. At half the price my review would be the same."

  • "Had to downgrade this little Village gem as the grilled octopus was absolutely terrible as it wad chewy beyond edible. Complained and they made a slight adjustment to the check as I we tried to eat part of the serving. Clearly, the quality has slipped as it should not have been served. In fairness to the kitchen's other efforts, I can report that other courses of our multi-course meal were up to standard. Service by captains was New York brisk and rote. Pleased with the young servers as they were far more enthusiastic and watchful of the room, while captains seemed to cluster at rage corner of the bar to chat among themselves."

  • "Noteworthy Italian, .. my Veal Chop Milanese was special, even more so when paired with attentive and very engaging staff. The endless appys and great selection of Italian wine almost made me pass on the Veal, glad I didn't. "

  • "We regularly visit Il Mulino downtown all the way from CT and the service is always excellent. Claudio, Jordan, and the entire team are very attentive and provide 1st class service. The food is amazing and consistently delicious. This downtown location is the best location to visit for Il Mulino as the experience is A+ every time!!"

  • " This restaurant is desperately in need of an update, both in its decor and its food. There were 6 of us dining, 2 people enjoyed what they had ordered, the rest of us found our dishes smothered in heavy sauces or swimming in oil and butter. There are far better Italian restaurants in NYC - and at half the price. "

  • "This is a very special place and although you usually need to book ahead, do not forget to include it in your dining choice of Best Places in NYC. My Favourite restaurant, My Favourite Italian food anywhere. The service is unbelievable with the staff bringing many starters (at no charge), all divine. The mushroom ravioli was addicting. Love it all."

  • "Il Mulino is the best of the best in fine Italian dining. We come from Philadelphia to visit our daughter at NYU and never miss a meal at our favorite Italian restaurant in the country."

  • "We have had many meals and celebrations here going back many years. Stick with the original Greenwich Village location as the others are no match. It can be difficult to get a dinner reservation so try it for a late lunch - believe me you won't need dinner! Everything I have ever had here is magnificent - the pastas and the fish are my personal favorites. The fruit served for dessert is unbelievably fresh and flavorful - would love to know where they find those strawberries. One caution - the prices are stunning and unknown until the end. However, in the end our family is still coming after all these years."

  • "Having dined here many many years ago I asked my husband to dine at Il Mulino on our travels to New York to celebrate my 50th birthday. It was every bit as delicious as I remember. I will definitely return again on my next visit."

  • "Although the restaurant does not accept outside wines, the selection is fantastic (albeit pricey). The number and quality of Italian dishes was also amazing."

  • "Really enjoyed my dinner at Il Mulino. Food was amazing, serve was impeccable. Freebies and portion sizes meant we left more than satisfied. Expensive for sure, but worth it for a special occasion. I would definitely go back."

  • "Il Mulino continues its tradition of providing fine Italian food in a crowded, buzzy room. There are several complimentary appetizers before you even get the menu. The Restaurant Week meal was a great value with some excellent options including a veal dish and fettucine with lamb ragu. The staff is great, very attentive and knowledgeable."

  • "I was quite familiar with the reputation of Il Mulino? If you are a card carrying restaurant junkie, then you have DEFINITELY heard of this establishment. I was there for a Restaurant Week lunch. My first visit. The portions were bountiful, delicious and, overall, was a memorable experience. I selected the chicken offering. Without falling into a pit of overstatement, I will honestly say it was the most delicious chicken dish I've ever had! Memorable. A terrific place for celebrating. Anything!"

  • "Really enjoyed the restaurant week lunch menu. The mozzarella in the caprese salad was soft and fresh as can be. So it's not just the cooking, but the ingredients they care about. They give you all kinds of little delicious tidbits before you even get started."

  • "Italian food for the gods! They use the best ingredients and they certainly know how to execute! The food was fantastic as was the service (friendly and formal at the same time)."

  • "Great Italian, with character and class. Great service and great food."

  • "This long-established Italian joint remains one of the best options in the city. When you sit down, waiters delivers all kinds of snacks that are absolutely delicious and free of charge. Such a classy move. Had veal and loved it. The dessert and caprese were more average. Still, one of the best NYC options for Italian."

  • "Very nice experience during restaurant week-the food was all excellent- plain and vey tasty Italian dishes- the way we like it, not all fancied up with weird presentations or unusual sauces. Really nice Italian bread is served right away along with a few antipasti dishes from the chef, all very good. The coffee tho was not the robust Italian coffee one usually gets in Italy. The service is quite attentive without being overbearing but it is not exactly friendly either. No complaints there tho. The chicken in a savory brown sauce was exactly right altho unremarkable. We will go back and try the regular menu on another occasion."

  • "I went for lunch with my girlfriend during restaurant week. I've been to many fine dining establishments, as well as to Italy several times - this experience was certainly overhyped as an authentic Italian experience. The dishes were salty and not particularly yummy, though the wait staff walked around with various tastes of cheeses, salami, etc. What really killed it for me, though, was the obnoxious behavior of the "regulars" toward the ppl that were there bc of restaurant week. A gentleman sitting nearby loudly asked the manager "Can I pay with food stamps like these other people? ", among other things. Overall, an unremarkable experience coupled with obnoxious old men who don't know the net worth of the ppl they're sitting next to"

  • "Il Mulino is a classic that never disappoints. Service is attentive and not stuffy. Food is what you would expect to find in Italy. I spend a lot of time there and I like my Italian food pure and genuine. :-)"

  • "We had lunch during Restaurant Week. I certainly hope they don't rush their regular diners as they did us when it isn't Restaurant Week. I can understand wanting to have two seatings during lunch during Restaurant Week, but not any more. We had barely put our forks down after finishing our appetizers when the entrées arrived. And when we put our forks down after finishing our entrees the desserts arrived. And sure enough the bill arrived even though we were still drinking our coffees and hadn't asked for it. The food was excellent and we'd like to come back, but hesitate to do so."

  • "My husband and I had an outstanding lunch during Restaurant Week. In spite of the reduced price for the promotion, the wait staff was excellent and we enjoyed the food very much. We never felt rushed through our wonderful meal."

  • "Always a great time coming here. My third time here and every time gets better and better. Having so many locations, lost their exclusivity, but it is still one of the best restaurants around. I love this place!"
