Diner Reviews
  • "We dine early and went for the gluten free fish fry and other gluten free dinners. That most of the meals can be made GF is a real plus. So many other places have limited selection or non at all. Celiac disease is real and Chef does an excellent job in preparing GF."

  • "A group of 4 went out on a rainy Friday night. We were pleased to find a quiet restaurant about half full. We started with a few cocktails, which were all excellent. The bartender uses quality liquor and made each drink perfectly... from the dirty martini to the brandy old fashioned. Everyone also enjoyed their meals very much. I had the gnocchi, and although I probably could've eaten twice as much food (because it was so good!!!) it was the perfect amount. Our waiter was wonderful as well. He knew the dishes very well, could make suggestions, and was just a very nice person overall. I would go back here any time, and plan to."

  • "Great restaurant for before or after downtown sport or theater events. Food and service are excellent and the inexpensive and efficient valet parking a plus. Menu small but well balanced. Wine list interesting but most not available for tasting so we went for the familiar instead of trying something new Only quibble is the banquet seating is covered in a micro suede fabric that made skidding in and out wearing a skirt clumsy."

  • "And thanks for the extensive gluten free options. The waitstaff is always friendly and efficient. And the food is delicious."

  • "We had the pasta special which had homemade fettuccine, shrimp, bay scallops, asparagus, peas, evo and special seasonings. It was so good, I ate it all and wanted to lick the remaining sauce in the plate. The seafood pasta dishes at Il Mito are my favorite."

  • "My wife and I love the food, atmosphere, and the service each time we have been to Il Mito. My brother and his girl friend came who is Gluten Free, and she was able to experience an incredible dining experience. They really cater to those with Gluten allergies."

  • "Having lived in Milwaukee 30 years ago as i walked into IL Mito is was pleasant memories revisited as the former location of Sally's Steakhouse. The atmosphere has not changed nor the long winding bar to enjoy a cocktail before dinner. The food did not dissappoint from the calamri appetizer to the main courses. Everyone at the table tried something differnt andf we were all very pleased with our choices. Service was very good and our waiter was well versed on the menu."

  • "We had a reservation thru open table for last Saturday night and when we arrived at the Il Mito East 15 minutes early we found a note on the door stating that due to a fire in the basement they were closed. This was the weekend of the NCAA basketball tournament in Milwaukee and all others restaurants were booked up. They should have called each person that had a reservation so that plans could have been changed to places outside of metro Milwaukee......not very good customer service IMHO"

  • "From our waiter to our food, we had a most enjoyable experience! Stopped there for a quick Dinner before the Rep Theatre. The portions were generous, the food was delicious and the pear dessert we would order again!"

  • "I have been eating gluten free for over 5 years and dining out can still be a challenge! What a treat to find a gluten free fish fry!!! And incredibly delicious at that! AND gluten free fried calamari-yum! Chef Feker has it all figured out! :)"

  • "I have lunched several times at the West location and I was excited to dine our party of six for dinner. We were promptly seated and we had good service. The eggplant rollups had very bland sauce with tasteless melted cheese filling. The insalata calabrese was well done. Our amberjack entrees were well cooked but over a tasteless leek preparation sided with almost raw cauliflower with a balsamic drizzle and ice cold sweet potatoe purée. The squash ravioli were tasty but greasy. The turkey cutlet entree was enjoyed. Overall this was very disappointing and not up to chef Fekker's usual standards."

  • "Newly diagnosed with a gluten sensitivity, I was thrilled to hear via Facebook, about Il Mito East's offering of a GF fish fry. It was pricey at $23 but did include a huge scallop and prawns, all breaded in a light GF coating. It was tasty in spite of the GF coating. I did enjoy the three small GF biscuits and the wonderful garlic sauce. The creme brûlée was the best I have ever had. Ask for Louis for your server. He is delightful and most amusing. We will be back to try their add'l GF offerings."

  • "Everything we ate was fantastic! Highly recommend this restaurant! The food was elegant without being pretentious. The lamb shank was some of the best I have ever had! The service was also impeccable, waiter was a pleasure to talk to and he has helpful in the menu selection. Food arrived timely and hot and we were well taken care of by the entire staff. Wine list was good, although the bottle selection is better then "by the glass "selection."

  • "We had an appetizer, pasta dish, and two entrees and all food was excellent. The only regret was we didn't leave room for desert. We have dined at the location on North Ave several times and always enjoyed our food and visit. The east side location didn't disappoint. We will be back."

  • "Notified of the new menu launch, we decided to give IME another try after not visiting for some time. The decor of place is a train wreck, but who cares if you have great service and food. The service was attentive but the food ranged from a just ok egg plant appetizer to dry salmon w/congealed mashed potatoes and a weird burnt tasting chicken dish. . Although I was bit hesitant b/c of all the extras they throw in it, the caesar salad turned out to be the only decent dish we were served. Lastly, the more reasonable wines are marked up over 300% and are horrible - nicer ones have less mark-up. We didn't even bother complaining, it was easier to eat what we could and make an exit - taking IME off the revisit list."

  • "It was our first time there, and my father had booked this via travel zoo for us. He usually picks spots that we would have never picked or gone to before. But always ends up to be great. Our experience there was out of this world. Our server John was fantastic!! He gave us great recommendation and was always one step ahead in regards to predicting what our needs would be. We went during the Sunday brunch. The food was amazing!! We had the Spain, the Wisconsin, Italian doughnuts, and crème brule. Delicious!! We will be back for sure when we are in the area!! Also would and will recommend this to people that we know. We will have to come for dinner sometime the menu looks great!! Thanks again for a great time and amazing food!"

  • "We have been to the original Il Mito quite a few times and have always enjoyed our visits there. So it was a natural extension to try out the new Il Mito to celebrate one of our party's birthday. We were not disappointed !! Il Mito East continues the tradition with the great food and attentive service that we have come to expect. It has a very different ambiance from the original model - whereas the original Il Mito is bustling, loud and, perhaps, a little cramped (although that never seems to detract), Il Mito East is quieter, roomier, a little more elegant, but still cozy. Pricing is very reasonable for this class of restaurant. Others have mentioned their excellent cocktail selection and we agree. We'll definitely be back."

  • "The food was great and the service even better. We treated our 13-year old niece to a dinner out for her birthday. She was thinking of some fettuccine Alfredo which isn't on the menu. Since it was a quieter week night, the chef didn't disappoint and prepared her perfect meal. My wife and I love the gluten free options, especially at an Italian inspired restaurant!"

  • "We had an excellent meal with ample portion sizes although the wine by the glass seemed a tad skimpy. The service was excellent too - prompt and attentive without being overbearing. We will definitely return."

  • "The food was well-prepared, tender and delicious but was oversalted, almost like it had been salted twice. Salt can always be added at the table. Unfortunate."

  • "Sunday brunch at Il Mito East this week was one of the bet I've ever had. This was my first time at the restaurant and the ambience is charming and very comfortable. Both of our entrees were outstanding and full of layered flavors that left me wanting more even though I was full. I highly recommend the shrimp and grits; the grits were smooth and creamy and the chunks of tomato in the accompanying broth were packed with flavor. Overall it was a great experience and I'll definitely go back to try the dinner menu next time."

  • "We went out to celebrate my birthday during the polar vortex which meant we were there almost by ourselves. Service was awesome. Their Old Fashions are yummy. Lots of gluten free options. Short ribs were like butter. The pasta had unbelievable flavor We had a great evening"

  • "My dinner partner and I each opted for an evening special and both were disappointed. While the Ceasar salad was very tasty and big for a side salad, the fish dish was almost too salty to eat and the short ribs were overdone. The service was okay, but it was a very cold night and the room was drafty. I needed to keep my coat over my shoulders for warmth. Actually, the valet was a charming young man and the high point of the evening. I wouldn't recommend Il Mito East based on this experience and won't rush back. I expected more,"

  • "We came here as a last minute change to a New Year's Eve reservation at a different restaurant, which would typically be considered one of the 'fanciest' in Milwaukee. But honestly, I felt like Il Mito gave us the same level of service, the same fresh ingredients, the same masterful menu and presentation, just as full a wine list, just as pleasant and respectful team of servers... for at most HALF the price I had expected to pay. And with none of the arrogance of the place we were originally going to. I left feeling full and pampered, my wife was very satisfied. We will definitely be dining here many times again. Very well done Chef Feker!"

  • "What a wonderful experience we had! From the moment we walked in the door we were well taken care of. We were seated immediately at a lovely table and the ambience was perfect. Soft music and soft lights, but not too dark. Wait staff was very personable and attentive. We shared the bruschetta and it was outstanding! I had one of the specials of the day - pumpkin ravioli. It was magnificent. For dessert we had peppermint gelato and it was a real treat. I would certainly recommend this restaurant to anyone."

  • "We visited Il Mito east on Christmas Eve and enjoyed every bit of our holiday meal. The ambiance is rustic Italian and the food is outstanding. We have dined with Il Mito at their Wauwatosa and former downtown locations almost every Christmas for the last 12 years and this year was just as, if not more so, special. Chef Feker is so talented in the kitchen and makes a point to be seen in the dining room as well. Every entree was delicious, the sauces begged for more bread to finish them up. The restaurant is nice without being stuffy. I would recommend it to anyone looking for an outstanding meal at a reasonable price."

  • "My wife and I visited Il Mito East for Christmas Eve dinner. I appreciated the creative fusion of American Christmas classic cuisine (e.g., turkey dinner, sweet potatoes) with classic Tuscan cuisine (rustic preparation, garlic, spinach). My turkey was prepared well, but my wife's was over-cooked and dry. Her sweet potatoes were under-cooked and hard. Our calamari starter, which the server recommended, was forgettable. My mushroom salad was adequate. For desert I had the special bread pudding with rum gelato. The bread pudding was dense and bland; it was saved somewhat by the gelato, which was good. Overall I was not impressed. I believe my wife and I could have had a better Christmas Eve dinner elsewhere."

  • "It was our annual Christmas get-together with friends, all of us with varied tastes, which can sometimes be difficult to find a menu that caters to everyone. Il Mito East had something for each of us. The food was amazing, but the staff was outstanding! We had gifts to exchange and they assured us we were welcome to stay and linger at the table. We never felt rushed, only welcome. It was decorated beautiful for the holidays and our night there was perfect. On of the people in our party already made plans to go back with another group of friends."

  • "My wife and I visited Il MitoEast for the first time on a dinner out for her birthday. It was a Monday night so it was very slow and we had the restaurant almost to ourselves. We ordered ravioli and a couple of different protein dishes along with multiple glasses of wine. Overall it was a very good experience"

  • "Atmosphere was good. Food was adequate. Seating arrangement was tight. Appetizers (Calamari) was presented in a different cut and appeared to have fish included. Server stated that she would ask the chef and never returned with a answer. Beverages were good.Cheese platter was good but only had 2 toasted crackers to eat 3 different cheeses. Entrees were served hot. Restaurant was out of Veal for a 6:30 reservation. 2nd choice of Pork chop was tough and difficult to cut. Server appeared very inexperienced in her knowledge of the menu. Was not a good experience for our party of four. Will have to consider other options before returning or suggesting to others."

  • "Our waiter was awesome! Didn't rush US. The travel zoo coupon let us try 2 great appetizers. The calamari. Was superb. The lamb shank was phenomenal. And the chocolate brulee was to die for. Wines were reasonably priced."
