Diner Reviews
  • "Better than ever, in new location. Try to always get a quiet table all the way in the back and around to the left. Parmigiana of zucchini with smoked mozzarella, tomato sauce and basil; ravioli of pheasant and porcini mushrooms in tomato and majoram sauce; “mangalitsa” pork chop, grilled with Brussels sprouts and pancetta; Cassata Sicilian style garnished with dark chocolate sauce"

  • "Our guests wh were coming in from oh of town were delayed. The staff had no problems serving us and then our guests. The staff were professional and knowledgeable. The food was top notch. This was my second time there and I wi definitely return."

  • "First the bad--it took forever to get our drinks and one of my dining partners was served the wrong main course. We had food from the regular menu and so brunch was very expensive. But, the setting is lovely and everyone was very nice. We received some delicious comped appetizers and cookies for dessert. I left feeling relaxed and happy so I would defintiely go back."

  • "This is a very good upscale restaurant with a focus on the dishes around Naples. The combination of quality and service makes this a great destination for locals and out of towners."

  • "Modern , sleek decor with conversation possible at normal level. Service excellent. My lady ordered grouper, which was served in a very hot bowl and broth, thus overcooking the fish while my bronzino was deboned. When mentioned this problem to the waiter, the manager (Chris) was at our table in a moment to correct it. He was very professional and apologetic, and offered a replacement dinner, which was declined. He then sent us an after dinner moscato and desert. Not overly expensive given the food and service. We will go back."

  • "I chose this restaurant for dinner with a business friend. It turned out to be an excellent find. The great food coupled with stellar service made for a wonderful evening. I will keep Il Gatopardo on my list of go-to favorites."

  • "I don't understand why a waiter needs to act "superior". It was plainly evident that my food was not up to par and not once did he approach the table to see if everything was satisfactory. I'm not the type to complain, but when a plate is totally left uneaten why wouldn't a waiter ask if everything was OK. When he saw I wasn't eating the food , he disappeared and I had to ask another waiter for my check and another waiter for a glass of wine. We were the only people in the restaurant for brunch for over 30 minutes so being busy could not be an excuse."

  • "Our first, and so far only, meal at Il Gattopardo was a delight. The food was delicious, the wine list impressive, and the wait staff solicitous. We were there for a pre-theater dinner, and our only complaint would be that the noise level steadily increased along with the hour. Nevertheless, we would highly recommend the restaurant to our friends."

  • "My first time in Il Gattopardo's new location - did not disappoint. Had an excellent dinner with wonderful service. Always look forward to visiting whenever I'm in New York."

  • "The food at Il Gattopardo may be delicious, but the service is unbelievable. There must be three waiters per person! Our half-eaten bread basket was whisked away and replaced. Water glasses were always full. The waiters were friendly without being obsequious. I had a fish entree, simply treated with butter and lemon, but perfectly cooked. My husband had a plate of ravioli that he said were fluffy and light, the sauce was perfect. We'll definitely go back, next time with friends. Another thing to note: many of the diners were Italian, a very good sign."

  • "Our experience was awesome. From the time you are seated you are in the hands of not one but team of servers. The value here is phenomenal with generous portions of rich authentic classics. I would recommend this place to anyone."

  • "Brunch was wonderful. Ambience lovely; felt like you were in a garden with atrium. Wonderful service. All dishes superb from burata to veal to pasta dishes. Each one better than the other. Great experience; we will go back."

  • "My wife and I returned to the new location of this outstanding resturant. The food was typically outstanding as was the impeccable service by the professional,m and attentive staff. Having traveled to Italy in the fall, it was like a return to our trip abroad. I recommend this wonderful Manhatten gem."

  • "Il Gattopardo never disappoints! Gianfranco, Paola, Chef and team are extraordinary. This is truly one of my favorite spots. The food is perfection from appetizers to desserts and everything in between. The service is impeccable; the staff is very attentive. I have taken clients, friends and family. I cannot pick a favorite dish because I have tried many dishes and love them all. Lasagne and Risotto are among my favorites. The Burata melts in your mouth. The fish is exquisite as well. I love Il Gattopardo and I try to find any reason to go there!"

  • "I went to this restaurant with my girlfriend on Valentines Day. We were celebrating our engagement that day. I realize that we were in a good mood but this restaurant was absolutely stunning. We had dined at a number of upscale restaurants during our visit to NYC and this was without doubt, the very best. The food was outstanding - in terms of content, presentation and really well cooked. The wine was superb too. I cannot fault this place (unlike some of the other high end mid town restaurants we visited) and will definitely be returning. This was smart and classy without being pretentious and aloof. Well done."

  • "WOW. WOW. WOW We have been several times mostly eating at the bar. Being Valentines Day we decided to have a great diner. We sure did. The place was packed when we walked in. Our table was waiting . The service, food everything was perfect. A Must Go"

  • "This was our first experience in the new venue. Love the new surroundings -- more spacious and a very nice bar. The food was every bit as good as I remembered it; however, the service was a bit spotty -- sometimes excellent, sometimes neglectful. Our server seemed to be all over the place and very much in demand. Here's a tip: When the staff have left you sitting with empty wine glasses for 10 or more minutes during dinner while you madly tried to get someone's attention, just pick up the wine bottle yourself. It's strictly against the rules, but you'll be amazed how quickly they will run over to pour your wine. We should not have had to do this (twice). We will, however, be back. The restaurant is just that good!"

  • "Two years ago we had an outstanding lunch at Il Gattopardo. Traditional Italian food, as you find it in the tastiest Italian restaurants in Italy. Everything was delicious and perfectly cooked. We went back this week for a Saturday night dinner, and all four of us were disappointed. My escarole was dried out. My husband's pasta was watery. Our son's eggplant and ricotta cakes were dry and bland. Other pasta dishes were undistinguished. The exception was my coffee granita dessert - which was sublime. We don't know if they've changed chefs, or if the full house just overwhelmed them. Not likely to go back again soon for dinner. May try lunch again sometime. I hope it was just an off night for them."

  • "I have been to this restaurant once a year when we go to New York. We have always loved the food, service and ambience. However, we were disappointed this past visit. In its new location, the ceilings are very low and while the restaurant was busy, it was VERY NOISY, not "energetic", just loud. Our table of four could not carry on a conversation. In addition, there was intermittent cigarette smoke wafting through each time the front door opened. We we left, we noticed 4 folks, clustered right outside the door smoking. That said, the food was terrific as usual and the service was excellent. I love this spot and have always recommended it to my friends. However, after our visit, I am not sure I will return anytime soon. Sorry!"

  • "It was my first time in the new location. The new location is clearly larger and this makes for a more plesant dining experience. The former location had an awkward layout causing tables to be overly close. The noise level is also better in the new location. The food was good and the service friendly and attentive. We both had fish dishes which were prepared nicely. The dover sole was particularly good."

  • "We loved the old Il Gattopardo, went there maybe half a dozen times over three years. It was quirky but had character. The new place is cold, sterile, corporate, male, and loud. We peeked in at the old place, now something more informal. But what used to be bright and lively is now dark and dead. With great sadness, I have to say that we will not go back to Il Gattopardo, even though the food remains excellent."

  • "Had the meatball lasagna, excellent! Enjoyed a very good bottle of wine at a very moderate price. Service was helpful and attentive. This was our 2nd visit and we will be back. Locals, not tourist, frequent the place."

  • "the 'Flourless Chocolate Cake' on the menu contains wheat flour! No point asking for the Eggs Benedict without the muffin - the bearnaise sauce also contains flour: 'chef says there is a bit of flour throughout the dish'. Asked if they'd put a poached egg on top of the salmon salad (one of the few options with no flour): 'the only thing we can offer is a separate order of poached egg in tomato sauce''.This was our second and final try at Gattopardo. On Xmas Eve nine of us dined there, to excruciatingly slow service (over an hour to get the first course). We gave the benefit of the doubt (holiday season) and went back for brunch. Won't be going again."

  • "Sophisticated but unpretentious Midtown Italian, tucked in a beautifully restored townhouse behind MOMA. The new space has a sweet, intimate bar upfront and an elegant and intimate dining room on the main floor. Service was impeccable until our waiter went off duty then it fell apart, but the food more than makes up for it - impeccable Italian food and wine list."

  • "Always a great meal! Good place with great food and service staff know the food and are ever present to assist! New place just next door to the old one. A little hard to find but worth the effort. Has always been our go to NYC , upmarket, mid town great dinner spot!"

  • "I love this restaurant, but the food disappoints. The branzino was bland; the artichoke ravioli was mushy. The zucchini appetizer is fantastic. The ambiance is understated class. The staff is very competent and friendly. I will return - this was my third try. Our bill was $400 for 2 people (we each had 2 drinks). Did not warrant the price."

  • "This is a small jewel in midtown. Online menu reveals prices which are fair for such excellent dishes. We followed waiter suggestions and loved pasta, fish, salad courses. During our early reservation, 5:45, it was quiet enough to talk comfortably. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal."

  • "Just dropping in for a NYC visit. Typed in best Italian restaurant in my area. Got this rec and decided to give it a try. Thought I would walk away with a "must try" feel. Left with a "meh" could have spent my time better elsewhere. I live in small town USA and can match the ambiance and taste in my own home town. That's a thumbs down for me when I'm in the "big city" so to speak. I need to be wowed beyond what I can get at home it give a two thumbs up. Good try but work a little harder to be a cut above before I visit again."

  • "We have spent many wonderful nights dining at their previous location. While the food remains outstanding, I think some work still needs to be done to make the new space cozy. This new spot was once the home of Scandinavian Aaquaviit and it worked well- but the current design feels cold. Amongst possible tweaks...the music should either be turned up higher with some good Italian sounds or it should be turned off. Right now the faint elevator music offers no appeal. The service also felt a bit scattered. One can only say great things about their meatballs, pasta made in house and Bronzino -- but the ambience needs help. Even for the Senior crowd, it is a tad too sedate."
