Diner Reviews
  • "The food was good but not great. The Sole was overpriced and not prepared well. Overall just a fair time"

  • "Enjoyed everything we ate here. The service was outstanding."

  • "In a great setting, Il Gattopardo serves excellent Neapolitan food. When the whole restaurant is open, it is better for conversation. During weekday lunches, the upper floor is very noisy."

  • "The room was very attractive and the downstairs would be great for a special party. The service was terrific. We were early because we were going to the theater and everyone was very attentive. For the price, the food was mediocre. I have veal scallopine. I am certain the veal was of high quality but covered with a tasteless tomato sauce and served with tasteless greens, it was disappointing. My two guests loved the chocolate soufflés they had for dessert. I would not recommend Gattopardo."

  • "Il Gattopardo moved down the block into the old Atria/Gray's space. Although the bottom floor is lovely, the main level makes you feel like you are in an upscale cafeteria. The interiors and furniture are no longer quaint and charming -- what's with the cane chairs?? And, the noise level is LOUD! WE couldn't hear one another and we sat right next to each other. If I moved any closer, I would have been in my friend's lap. The food is still delicious and the service impeccable, but I hate the new space."

  • "I had dinner alone while in NYC for business. The restaurant was crowded yet the staff could not have been more gracious to me. The food was simple yet delicious. The service was friendly yet perfectly professional. A perfect evening."

  • "We went last night for my birthday and we couldn't have had a better evening! Service was wonderful, from the hostess, the maître d' to the serving staff, it was friendly and very personal. We had the parmigiana with zucchini, octopus salad and tuna for mains. The food was delicious, very well executed and generous portions. I could hardly finish the dessert (gelato). My husband had stated when making the reservation that it was my birthday and this was not forgotten (as so many places would do) and I had a little candle on my ice cream. The atmosphere in the restaurant was relaxed, a mix of locals and some visitors, but all very low key and understated - in a positive way. We will certainly be back."

  • "What a shame - the food and service are excellent, but the setting is uninspired and the tables are close together and cramped. The new space has neither the charm of the old Gattopardo or the elegance and style of the old Aquavit. Be sure to bring your hearing aid, however. Great modest priced wine selection to go with very well prepared dishes that are not easy to find - spaghetti with bottarga comes to mind."

  • "This restaurant has good overall Italian fare. It's roots are Southern Italian, but the menu draws from well outside their origins. For a restaurant of this class, I expected more creative and focused menu. It was much more generic than we anticipated. Small annoyance was that we arrived on time to our reservation and the maître d shouted across the restaurant to go sit in the (unattended) bar. Pretty shoddy. No drinks offered, nothing. They were ready 15 minutes later. Better places to spend this type of money. Not a "go back to.""

  • "The new location of Il Gattopardo, just a few doors down from the old location, is really not an improvement in ambience. Yes, there is more of a place for diners to wait, but the room itself lacks the warmth of the former location. And the staff is competent (although we had to ask for the amuse-bouche while later diners were served automatically), though we don't recognize any of the former staff, all of whom had more personality than the current staff. Or--perhaps because it is summer--the regulars are away. The food is just about the same: very good. For anyone who never wants to see a restaurant menu change, Il Gatt will be perfect."

  • "Following a Wednesday matinee, my friends and I dined at Il Gattopardo. It was wonderful experience. The staff was very welcoming and provided exceptional service all evening. Upon completing each course, every plate was clean as we used our bread to wipe up every remaining morsel. I had the eggplant/ricotta cake appetizer which was crispy on the outside, creamy on the inside. We all dipped into our friend's broth from her steamed mussels. Delicious. A beautifully cooked and presented branzino graced the table. The waiter even made sure we each had a tasting of one of our party's pasta with lobster sauce. Looking forward to a return visit!"

  • "An exquisitely appointed restaurant just outside of Times Square. Business-friendly, theatre-friendly and romantic. Ambiance is exceeded only by the high quality service and delicious food. Highly recommended, one of only a half-dozen worthwhile fine dining experiences in the neighborhood."

  • "Our husbands went to Yankee game. We went to Il Gattopardo. Great evening, good food and fabulous staff. Everyone was very friendly including regular diners seated near us. Food was wonderful"

  • "I love Il Gattopardo! One of my all time favorites. Everything is spectacular but the Neopolitan meat loaf is heaven."

  • "Il Gattopardo came highly recommended and did not disappoint. The hostess and waiters greeted us warmly, and we never felt rushed or crowded. We enjoyed the tiny bites, compliments of the chef, and appreciated the plate sharing. The branzino special, deboned by the maitre d' was perfectly prepared. The broccoli rabe provided just the right balance to the fish. The burrata cheese starter, also a special, was delicate and flavorful, and presented well with sauteed peppers and cherry tomatoes, with just the right accompaniment of olive oil and herbs. I enjoyed the texture and flavor of the zabaione and berries to finish the meal. It was the perfect venue for a lovely meal and conversation with my young adult children."

  • "I thought the food was pretty good. I had the muscles as an appetizer along with the meatballs wrapped in cabbage and though they were pretty good. For the main course I had the Pork Chop that was excellent. My wife had the Cod and she was somewhat disappointed. The location is great, the entrance is great and the dining area was very nice."

  • "NY Magazine gave the restaurant a "critics choice" endorsement. Maybe my expectations were too high! The meatballs wrapped in cabbage - they were just okay. I had the swordfish special - overcooked - the broccoli rabe was over cooked and very salty- the potato puree was reallllyyy runny. My friend ordered a spicy pasta with chorizo sausage which was average. The "gift from the chef" appetizer was a rice ball - dry and flavorless - and a slice of spinach roll - bland and dry. For dessert we had the berries with zabagione - the berries were sweet and fresh but the zabagione was more of a meringue and very strong marsala flavor. It is a convenient spot to eat before a show at Radio City - but I would try another place next time."

  • "My wife orders Dover sole whenever it is on a menu. She declared Gattopardo's the best ever. I enjoyed the spaghetti with veal ragu."

  • "Always excellent; worth a visit. Great choices in both food and wine with excellent service."

  • "The food and service are consistently outstanding. I'm not a star f*'er but every time I eat there, there is some celebrity a couple of tables away. One more thing that shows the difference between NY and L.A., because on the west coast, that is usually the sign of a BAD restaurant. It's cool, because it always impresses the friends that I bring. There is also a very beautiful space downstairs that you can rent out for parties. It is in a courtyard of a building, so it has that 5-story-atrium feel. I can't wait until I have some special occasion and can put it on there!"

  • "Il Gattopardo would be perfect were it not for the noise level which made it hard for our table ( a table for 4 between 2 larger tables of very boisterous men) to hear each other speak. The food and service were lovely, however, and I will certainly try once more."

  • "We have frequented Il Gattopardo for years. The new place is roomier and the soaring dining space very elegant. The food is always interesting and wonderfully prepared, the service is very attentive, and the prices are reasonable, upscale, but reasonable value."

  • "This is not the first time we were at this restaurant. The food is always excellent, and the most important thing for us is that we feel welcome. This is authentic Italian food that you don't find in every restaurant in NY. I would recommend it, and have recommended it and the owner's other restaurant, to all my foodie friends."

  • "Found this via on-line search when looking for a traditional Italian restaurant. Food was of high quality. Waiter was very attentive without being obtrusive."

  • "Their take on eggs benedict was superb -- brioche instead of English muffin; prosciutto instead of Canadian bacon and eggs so fresh that the hens had to be in the kitchen"

  • "Classy Italian restaurant. Elegant, contemporary design, excellent good and professional service."

  • "My wife and I have gone to Il Gattopardo for her birthday and our 29th wedding anniversary. Although we have been there for special occassions it can be a go-to restaurant for any occassion. We enjoy everything about it."
    Dined on 6/7/2014
  • "The restaurant is in a very pretty setting - landmarked townhouses - and the decor has a very sophisticated feel. All of our courses were delicious - very intense flavors and the salad was clean and fresh. The prices put this restaurant into a "special occassion" category but not overwhelmingly expensive"

  • "I tried this in lieu of The Modern Bar room. MOMA members get a 10% discount. I made a reservation, I arrived on time and I was seated in a freezing corner where I couldn't even see any other diners. The table wasn't even set for one. With a reservation at this level, I expect the table to be waiting. I had the octopus salad and the rabbit ragu with pasta. Both were adequate but not particularly flavorful. I am sure a table full of companions would have made it more enjoyable. The wine that I had by the glass was quite good. In the new restaurant, there is a bar area and that is probably where I should have eaten."

  • "I try and visit Il Gattopardo every time I am in NYC. It's one of my favourite places to eat and being Italian, I can be quite choosy when it comes to Italian food! Amazing food, delivered by amazing service!"

  • "Beautiful place. Fantastic service My guest and I shared a pasta to start, which they r willing to do half portions. It was the genovese sauce, which is pork shoulder cooked for hours, and made into a simple oil based sauce. The pasta was perfectly Al dente and delicious and flavorful. My guest had the fish special, branzinno, which was very good. I had their version of ciopinno.the sauce was a tad too thin & just a hair too fishy. One or 2 of the mussels were questionable, other seafood and fish were good. It would not b a dish I would re-order, however there were many I would love to try.The mousse cake with the coffee gelato was outstanding. Overall a good meal, served with love and a great attitude. PS great bread and olive oil as well."
