Pasta was cooked to perfection, but sauce was too salty. Veal was tender, well cooked and very good. For the price and ambiance there are many better restaurants in the area. It is definitely a expense account destination.

We hade never heard of this place, but it seemed convenient and walking distance from our hotel. What a find! The service was good before we were even seated (we arrived 20 minutes early) and sat at the bar. Small, but nice bar. The menu was great with a good selection of appetizers, pastas, fish and other entrees. The wine list was very good, also. We started with burrata and eggplant. Very good. I had the branzino and my wife ordered the orecchiette with swordfish ragout. Both were great. We had a nobile de montipulciano that was great and fairly priced. On top of a great meal and wine, what really made this place great was that it was enjoyable to be there. Not too big or small. Nice crowd that looked like mostly regulars and locals (not a tourist trap). Fairly priced and great service. Would highly recommend and looking forward to going again. - Joshua

I often eat at Il Gattopardo. However, this time, since I am, I had a special request, just a pasta a bolognese. The waiter was not patient at all to understand what I needed, and tried several times to offer me something on the menu. I just expected a little more flexibility.

Disappointing, loud... we waited 45 minutes to be seated and when we arrived on time several others arriving later were seated before us. Food was ok, the fried eggplant & ricotta appetizer was the best part. Imperious staff and too efficient waiters make this a no repeater.

All compliments. A couple of Criticisms, since nothing is perfect: seating at the bar is tight, cramped. I haven't tried all the entrees, but recommend first timers stick with the specials. Restaurant very noisy, but that's because I'm old and rather deaf, but conversations difficult

With literally hundreds of options we chose Il Gattopardo based on various reviews. Had rsv at 10pm for 2. Had Branzino special that evening + Lasagne. Started with Zucchini appetizer. Ordered special white truffle risotto. Branzino was cold and VERY small portion, Lasagne was just "OK" not amazing. Big disappointment the white truffle risotto was cold bland and not worth $80 for 1/2 portion. Service was "OK" as left wanting for water/drink top up. Maybe they were not happy we didn't order wine? Trying to be fair in our evaluation this establishment just did not live anywhere near up to it's reputation at $320 for 2 with a 15% tip. Many other options in NYC that have been amazing! Best to stick to the "rivers and lakes that your used to"!!!

NYC has SO many amazing restaurants. While the service was GREAT, the food was only good, not great. Octopus apply was a bit fishy. My sea bass was fresh but simple preparation lacked much flavor. The greens on the plate were nothing special. My wife's lamb was the winner on the table. Service was great. I wish I loved it. It was just ok

The larger place is much nicer but late in the evening it can be really noisy. But the service never falters and the food is always timely and exceptional. I miss the intimacy of the old place but much more room upstairs and downstairs in the new place. Go early and it is quieter, come later and you enjoy what opentable calls energetic noise. Good service covers a lot of sins.

We ate pretty early on a Sunday evening (5:30 PM) so the restaurant was not very full and the noise level was non-existent. As it filled up towards the end of our meal, it was a little louder but tolerable. Ambience is nice and the 2003 Brunella was devine. The food is good and generous. Had an enjoyable time.

The new location is fine, but I found the decor to be rather bland. It was mostly an older crowd in attendance. Octopus salad was delicious as was the fish stew. My dinner companion ordered the scialatielli with shellfish ragout and was underwhelmed. The passionfruit semifreddo was good, but rather straightforward and uninspired. If you happen to be at the Moma and are looking for a good nearby Italian spot, Il Gattopardo is a decent option. You may be better off going to eat at The Modern in terms of ambience, cocktail options, and possibly food.

After reviewing all those glowing reports I decided to make reservation for lunch.Restaurant is in the souterrain in what I guess once was Rockefeller mansion,it's on two levels, the upper one I believe is either for dinner and/or corporate events and the lower one is for lunch. When you enter and take your seat at the table you do feel you are in a cellar. It's dark, uninviting, the walls painted in dark, drab colours.Service was very good, but I must add there were only four or five tables that were occupied.Food was average,I had mussels for an appetizer and broiled wild bass.Good but nothing special. For dessert, chocolate souffle and two glasses of white wine-neither names known to me,one from Friulia and the other from Abruzzo, quite nice.

The service at this restaurant is the best I remember anywhere, and the food is outstanding. However, if you're an iced tea drinking Southerner, forget it. When our bill came, we had been charged $5.00 for our (mostly ice) teas and $5.00 for each refill (also mostly ice), of which there were several. Completely ruined the experience for us.

We dinner here after being audience members at Late Night with David Letterman. It's less than a half mile from the Ed Sullivan Theater. We felt a bit under-dressed, however, walking in wearing jeans - it seemed all the men were in jackets or jackets and ties. Wait staff wore bow ties. We were led around to a table near the kitchen, passing many empty tables on the way - I was convinced it was because we were dressed too casually, despite the fact that nowhere on Gattopardo's website is there mention of a dress code. On their website, though, there is reference to the restaurant's "upscale clientele." Maybe that should have been the hint. Our waiter was lovely, gracious, friendly. Food was INCREDIBLE! Treat yourself to Gattopardo!

Recently stayed in Midtown NYC and was looking for a good restaurant within walking distance of our hotel. Read the reviews and decided to give it a try. Fantastic!! Our party was warmly greeted and seated in the atrium away from all the hustle & bustle and noise. The service was very attentive and our waiter helped us make what turned out to be perfect choices. The appetizers were all delicious. Parmigiana of zucchini, tomato & cucumber salad, frisée and soup of the day were all delicious. The waiter recommended both the meatloaf and the lasagna and neither disappointed. The risotto of the day was to die for and the seafood medley was devoured. The wine menu had some excellent choices at reasonable prices. An excellent midtown choice.
