A word from Il Fresco
Constructed in 1728 and beautifully restored, this quaint Hudson Valley farmhouse is family owned and operated. Located just 30 minutes from Manhattan and moments from Bergen County and Westchester, this historic Rockland County restaurant is home to freshly prepared Italian fare. The space boasts six intimate candlelit dining areas as well as serene seasonal outdoor dining. The Sage, Savory, Sassafras and Saffron Rooms are all unique in their own way. The antique stone Wine Cellar is perfect for a romantic dining experience near one of our fireplaces. Il Fresco's menu is all prepared fresh when ordered. The wine list features Italian and American selections carefully selected to reflect the wide range of flavors offered from its kitchen. The Sorrel Bar is a festive dining space where you can get a firsthand look at our bartenders preparing one of the fifty-two 10 ounce Martinis we have become well known for.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "We went to Il Fresco with two of our older teenage daughters. Even though we had an early seating (6:45pm), our waiter paced us appropriately, and measured the time well between courses, not letting us feel rushed or ignored. The meals were prepared wonderfully, and we're delicious. "

  • "We dined at Il Fresco Saturday night. We ate in the wine cellar and sat by the fireplace. We all had great food and drink. Other tables seem to be having just as much fun with conversation as we were. Frank is a great host."

  • "The Open Table reservation process was easy. I had requested a romantic spot for our anniversary. We were provided the most romantic area in the wine cellar in front of the fireplace. It was beautiful. It was a Tuesday evening so not too many people and it was nice and quiet. Food and drinks were elegant and delicious. Waiter was the absolute best. I am looking forward to our return."

  • "Good Italian food, if not the best in the area combined with friendly hometown service. This restaurant has both atmosphere, good food and good service at moderate prices"

  • "A genuinely historic 1700's converted farmhouse, great food, (though a bit heavy on the salt), and courteous, patient staff."

  • "Found Il Fresco thanks to Open Table and went there for lunch with coworkers. Loved the old house (1728?) feel, nice menu with a lot of classical and more creative Italian fares. Nice service too. But more important is the family feeling: they are celebrating their 13th anniversary and are donating $1 per diner to their favorite charity who saved the owner's life as he was battling cancer. This alone sums up the spirit of the place. I will definitely come back."

  • "Have to say everything was great. The filet special that my wife had was super. I had the halibut. Fish was cooked perfectly. It just was not outstanding...........which is what we are used to at Il Fresco"

  • "I have been a customer of IL Fresco since they began in Ft Lee NJ then Pal Pk NJ and their present location in Orangeburg NY ! They have absolutely the best staff in this entire area - the owner could not be more personable and warm - the food is tremendous and that is an "understatement" in my opinion ! IL Fresco is and has always been my and my family's most favorite dining experience ! Frankie (even though he's a Jet fanatic) and his mom Rita always make you feel like your home in your dining room ! As I said above " Simply the Best " !!"

  • "We celebrated my daughters birthday and I was happy with the ambience . The food was great ! The service was great ! I ordered salmon but wanted a larger portion! I wish I could have had a sweet potato to really have been satiated , I am dieting and was still hungry! My kids were happy so overall it was a very successful evening !"

  • "I've been to il fresco about a dozen times over the years and there is never anything bad I can say. I usually go with my boyfriend and once with a group and the service is always great. I recommend the wine cellar for a real romantic feel. Frank is the head waiter and he is awesome. The food is exceptional. Make a reservation because they are always busy but not in an overwhelming way. They have a extensive wine list. It is on the expensive side which is why we don't go more often but it's worth it. We spent about $100 for 2 people (apps, drinks, salad, entree, dessert). I already recommend this to anyone in ear shot."

  • "I made a last minute reservation for my girlfriend's birthday and it could not have worked out better! I heard amazing things about this place from friends and thought it sounded perfect. We walked in and were immediately met by the staff. The engery and noise was perfect, we were able to talk without people listening. The lighting was soft and romantic. Our waiter was very attentive and highly knowledgeable about the menu. He took the time to make sure we were always topped off with wine. We never felt rushed and sat there for three hours! We took our time, enjoyed our conversations and the incredible food. They made her birthday very special. Highly recommended! We drove about an hour for this perfect five star experience."

  • "Ill Fresco is, and has been one of my favorite restaurants in Rockland County. They are always accommodating. I usually eat in the romantic wine cellar of this quaint old house; however, a private party reserved the area. A quiet spot, on the 3rd floor, around a corner, in the back, there was back, there was a hidden alcove with 2 tables for 2 couples that was suggested to me. It was the perfect spot for a date. I always have the Veal Chop Mario. It was Excellent as usual. My friend from out of town was amazed with this gem of a restaurant. No need to dress to the 9's, but you certainly do so. Diners ages span from young couples/groups to the more mature. The staff will make you comfortable and feel special every time. GREAT ANY DAY!!"

  • "I've lived in Rockland all my life, but this was my first trip to Il Fresco, and it won't be my last. Food was delicious, certainly homemade, all of the sauces and pastas definitely had that taste like they were not from a box or jar. Our server was excellent, attentive, never left a glass empty. Prices were standard for an upscale Italian restaurant, no complaints, the bill was about where you'd expect it to be. We'll be coming back!"

  • "This was our second time to Il Fresco and it did not dissapoint. We requested a particular table and it was waiting for us. Our waiter, Frank, remembered us from 3 months ago and he was attentive and helpful as before. We really enjoy this restaurant, its food and service and will continue returning time and again in the future. If you are looking for a charming place to celebrate a special occasion, or just a night out, I highly recommend Il Fresco."

  • "We loved everything about this restaurant! The food was outstanding and the service, by Paul, terrific. The bar was very small but the martini's were delish. The atmosphere is cozy as it is an old barn(?) This used to be called the Stonehouse. I would say that it is pricey, but worth it. I can't wait to go back as this place is my new favorite."

  • "Il Fresco had excellent food and was a beautifully laid out restaurant. Our wine was delicious and the food was prepared perfectly. My only 'complaint' was it took a very long time for our waiter to recognize and serve us even though it was not that crowded. That being said when he did come by he was attentive and friendly. I would go again and recommend it to others."

  • "My Husband and I went her for our one year anniversary in June and loved it! Il Fresco is a charming old farmhouse restaurant, filled with small intimate rooms and a very romantic wine cellar room which was perfect for our occasion. We decided to go back this weekend and were not disappointed. The staff is top notch and the food is excellent. We also enjoy their extensive cocktail and wine menu. Everything makes you feel at home! I would love to try their outdoor patio in warmer weather. If there is any drawback, it is difficult to land a reservation, especially on a Friday or Saturday night. We will definitely be coming here again."

  • "My father owned a restaurant not far from il fresco , he passed away many years ago, he was very fussy with his staff, the food , everything. I have inherited his opinions on restaurants and this one is a five star! I have been here several times and it's always as good if not better. I highly recommend IL Fresco!"

  • "Another wonderful dinner at Il Fresco, our server, Frank was more than attentive and the food was delicious. We got the table near the fireplace, just lovely. It's like private dining in someone's home with your own table. we'll be back again for sure."

  • "This was my second time dining at il fresco - the food was delicious and service was good. I had the halibut special my friend had shrimp Parm, we each had a salad and shared fried calamari, followed by the warm chocolate lava cake. The food was all great the only damper in the evening was that unfortunately we were seated by a group of 10 that was rather noisy, not what you are hoping for on a girls night out. Overall would go back again but would be sure to request a quiet table,"

  • "So I was looking for a romantic place to take my wife for her birthday dinner. I searched for romantic restaurants and I found this place. My wife is a foodie. We go to restaurants and spend way too much on omakase meals and usually walk away satisfied. However I have rarely had success at the "reasonably priced" restaurants until I met Il Fresco. I had roses sent to the restaurant and was seated in the wine cellar next to a fireplace. The place is awesome! We both loved it. We posted FB pictures and had a ton of responses. This is the first restaurant review I have ever written. Let me tell you the Pollo Fiorentina was amazing and my wife ordered a little off menu and had linguine con vongole and we both loved it. Love this place!"

  • "We had such a great first experience that when friends said they got a sitter for saturday night i recommended this place. I asked for a cozy table by the fireplace…when they called me to confirm reservation the woman asked if the wine cellar was okay…. I was like ABSOLUTELY. I have read how people ask to sit down there. We arrived and were seated in the corner, then 10 min later the table fright in front of fireplace got up and we asked if we could move over. no problem at all. our waiter was awesome, attentive, atmosphere cozy and the food was very very good. This place is so good and it really feels like such a special night out without breaking the wallet. Thank you Il Fresco!"

  • "This is a very interesting place, located in a 300 year old house that retains the charm of the period. Fireplaces are located in each room and the waiter was nice enough to regulate the flame so we weren’t roasted out. The food was excellent. My wife had the Halibut and I had the sashimi grade tuna steak. Both were awesome! You can tell this is a place for special events as it was our anniversary and several of the tables around us were celebrating birthdays. The wine list is excellent; we enjoyed a bottle of 2011 Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon. Just note, that they do not allow outside wine on weekends."

  • "We enjoyed a great night out at Il Fresco. Food was great and the ambiance in this cozy old farmhouse was perfect on a chilly night. We sat in the basement/wine cellar and it was quiet and cozy with low ceiling beams and the fireplace burning. We've eaten here on many occasions in the past and all the rooms are lovely especially those with fireplaces in the winter and the garden area in the summer. Love this little gem hidden right in a more commercial area of Orangetown."

  • "For me, it doesn't get better than IL-FRESCO. This was probably my 10th visit & everything has ALWAYS been "top draw!" If I could get them to open a branch in the NORTH POLE, I suspect I would go once a week! :) It's THE most beautiful setting, with fire places a'burning...and of course the most important thing: GREAT FOOD!
