A word from Il Forno
The “food, owners and servers are all so very Italian” at this “neighborhood favorite” next to Santa Monica Airport (and its branch on Colorado Avenue) where locals go for “delicious, unpretentious”, “reasonably priced” fare and “friendly”, “attentive” service in a “low-key” setting that’s “perfect” when “you want a tablecloth but don’t want to get dressed up.Continued

  • "We love Il Forno, on Ocean Park Blvd... delicious food, wonderful service, marvelous menu. I keep ordering the same thing each time as I cannot get away from it! Great wine list; by the glass too. I cannot wait to return! Thank you Il Forno!"

  • "We love authentic Italian....and Il Forno is the place! Bruschetta and bread were outstanding. Husband has the scampi and I had the veal. Both were prepared perfectly. Shared the chocolate raspberry cake for dessert. It was husband's birthday and this dinner was a hit. We look forward to many returns."

  • "We have been dining at Il Forno for many, many years. The food and service are always consistently good -don't miss the fresh artichoke salad, the branzino or the tuna carpaccio!"

  • "Surprised to find this food friendly restaurant which is located in a small shopping center. The landscaping helps to hide the traffic on Ocean Park Ave. The service was attentive and the food tasty and innovative."

  • "My folks have been to Il Forno many times and this was a first for me in a long, long time. I had the most delicious lunch, with delicious bread, wine, gorgeous greens dressed with balsamic, grilled chicken... The waiter was great, the staff was great and the food was delicious. Il Forno is a beautiful little restaurant, little lights, plants - something very happy and upscale about it. I cannot wait to return."

  • "This restaurant is great for families with kids. But if you don't have any with you, you will not enjoy the atmosphere. The noise level was horrible; mostly caused by small children whose parents looked too exhausted to care about keeping them quiet. There is a room to the side which was better than the main room. The food was good but not good enough to overcome the unpleasant atmosphere. Maybe if you dined there much later at a time when kids are already in bed, it would be much better."

  • "We absolutely adore Il Forno. We have been coming here for years. The food is amazing (love the Tortellini and the pizza)! Wine list is great. It is a perfect restaurant because there is a nicer side for the special occasion and a more casual side when we come with our kids. The waiters and owners remember us even when we haven't been for months at a time. They treat us like family. Our kids love the waiters (especially Michael). Such a neighborhood gem! We would come here more often, but it is a slightly more expensive meal for a family of four if you get wine, coffee, etc. Definitely a must try for Angelenos! Every friend/family member we have ever taken here loves it too."

  • "This place is great. There isn't one thing on the menu that didn't look delicious. My girlfriend is a chef, and she said this is the best restaurant I've taken her too. The service is great and i had the best risotto I've ever ordered. And the parking is easy - no valet. It's now on our regular's list."

  • "Food was ok, service terrible. All kinds of seating issues and waiters pulling houdini acts. Would maybe try again if in the area, but doubtful."

  • "Great spot and a great place to have a nice meal. We went here for a valentine meal. Really cool place., However, two people, drinks, appetizers, mains, dessert and drinks - 160.00 plus 20.00 tip. Whew! I had the caprese, basically tomato and some buffalo cheese, 12.00!!! At the grocery store i could get 2 packs of buffalo cheese and 5 tomatoes for that price. Booze, my two personi bottle beers were 16.00!!! Not draft but bottle. I can get 6 bottles of beer for 9.99 at Ralphs. Just a real disappointment what restaurants are chagrin these days, no wonder people are staying home more. However, the staff were superb, the setting is wonderful and the food is excellent. Parking is easy too."

  • "We ave been frequenting Ill Fornofor many years for their home made pastas, excellent fish dishes and the friendly service . Thr service lacked this Saturday night. Waiter said he was too busy to filet the Brancino. It was embarrassing , as we recommended Il lForno to our new friends, who came from Beverly Hills. I had never seen the place so busy as last Saturday. Pasta dishes were excellent."

  • "We went for DineLA on a Wednesday night. Their bread and bruschetta is fantastic! We ordered a Four Graces pinot noir, really delicious. I ordered a filet mignon, and it was perfect, tender and delicious, with vegetables as a side. The tiramisu was really good as well, fluffy and light, not too sweet, just the right amount. Will go back again!"

  • "Overall the good was great, the service was great and had a fun time with a few of my friends. Not the best place for large groups but 4 or less will have a good time."
    Dined on 1/29/2014
  • "Great original Italian food in a friendly neighborhood setting. Bread is great along with salads and pasta dishes. Only knock on restaurant is tendency to be understaffed at lunch, which means longer waits, empty tables with dirty dishes still on top, and worst of all, a bad parking arrangement. This is one of six restaurants sharing a small plaza area. Good ambience for all six, but the parking lot and adjacent street parking are inadequate for the lunch crowd, in particular. Even so, we will return when we want more linguini and ravioli!"

  • "Have been going to Il Fornio for about 20 years and love it. Food, Service, Ambience is great. Service was a little slow due to crowd on that evening, but still love it. Our favorite Italian Restaurant!!!"

  • "i have eaten here a number of times and generally i get the table I requested. however on my last two trips i did not. i asked for a corner table. i realized that it was a busy evening but since i was there on time i expected a better table. instead of the corner i was on the main aisle in front of the cooking area. This is the second time back to back that this has happened. whild the the food and service is always good we need to fix the seating or I will no longer eat here."

  • "We moved to the Bay Area over 15 years ago but never forgot the great food we enjoyed when we lived in L.A. A recent visit had us savoring the same great seafood salad, crisp pizza, complimentary e tomato brushetta and wonderful pastas. We even remembered some of the waiters. After 29 years, this place has it down."

  • "I've been dining at this restaurant for well over 25 years. I don't know of any restaurant, or any business for that matter, that is better managed, better staffed, and more customer friendly than Il Forno. Every single person that works there is extremely friendly. I cannot sing enough praises. The food is across the board AMAZING. Anything that you order on the menu is absolutely delicious. To sum it up, I've travelled to Italy and back, and by far the food at Il Forno is the best Italian food I've ever tasted. Thank you so much Il Forno, for being the best restaurant that me and my entire family can enjoy every week!!"

  • "How many restaurants remain consistent in food quality, service and ambiance for over 25 years? That's how long we've been visiting Il Forno for dependably delicious Italian food in a comfortable but unpretentious setting. The professional staff always delivers good service, and we've never had a bad dish or an off-night. A family favorite. Highly recommended!"

  • "Il Forno is an extraordinary restaurant, consistently serving authentic, delicious, high quality Italilan food, in a very welcoming, friendly and comfortable environment. Excellent wine list. Excellent service. Really excellent food! Set in an unlikely location, in a little strip mall on Ocean Park Ave., it's MUCH better than most of the better known, more expensive Italian restaurants in LA. Highest recommendation."

  • "The setting so close you can share your food and conversation with stranger. People actually shoved on your back in order to get out of their chair. I don't recommend this place if you are looking to share a romantic dinner with each other. Pasta too salty."

  • "Whether for lunch or dinner, whether for work or with family, I am always warmly greeted, well fed and pleasantly treated at Il Forno. Il love the pastas, and the salads. They do a great job with fish, too. Its casual, but not too casual. It's upscale without being pretentious. It's just right -- and that's why i keep going back. I do not hesitate to recommend for any occasion."
