Literally "the baker" in Italian, Il Fornaio offers wood-fired rotisserie and grilled meats, poultry and game; housemade and imported pastas; pizzas from a wood burning oven; fresh salads and housemade soups; antipasti and a wide variety of desserts made daily from scratch.   • "It was quite noisy and we couldn't talk to the people as a whole unless you sat next to them. The food was pricey for the quality. There are much better restaurants in the Reston area. The majority in the group mentioned they would not come back."

  • "A pleasant Italian restaurant addition to Reston Town Center. Convenient parking one block away, friendly waitstaff, who will help guide you through the specials and menu options. Our meal was preceded with warm, crusty bread and olive-balsamic oils for dipping. The cold seafood appetizer was sufficient to share between two, and the separate pasta entrees were just as hoped for. Dessert was again shared; a trio of delicious gelato's with cookie accompaniment."

  • "This place was packed/the energy level is high. The noise level is also pretty high as well. Food was good but not particularly memorable. We asked to have our meal paced slowly since we were there to relax and enjoy the conversation. The food came out whiz bang fast instead. I guess they were trying to move the table. It was a Saturday night so, sure, we weren't going to be able to linger all that long but as soon as we had finished that last bite of appetizer, the main courses were slapped on the table. It is a cool looking place and a has a nice vibe for a quick and fairly elegant meal out. Just don't go there with thoughts of a quiet, romantic Italian dinner."

  • "Overall a nice dining experience. We all ordered rack of lamb and it was very nice but for some unknown reason it took a long time to receive it. Server stated they wanted it cooked properly (?? we all ordered medium) so maybe they overcooked the first order or just dropped the ball. The person who delivered our entrees also apologized for the delay. Not a huge problem. We have eaten here before and always enjoyed our meals."

  • "To celebrate our special event, my wife and I decided to return to Il Fornaio after the fantastic dining experience we had there with our daughters and grandchildren. We were warmly met at the hostess station with a smile and a welcome and escorted to the quiet table I requested. After seating us, the hostess confirmed our anniversary celebration with me to ensure she could advise the staff. Carlos was prompt to start his awesome service and took our drink order. Within a few minutes, the manager on duty greeted us with complimentary glasses of champagne and wished us well on our wedding anniversary. The appetizers, main course, dessert, and bottle of wine were great, but Carlos was the star of our evening!"

  • "a word about the other patrons. I had to notify a member of your staff as the people seated next to us began experiencing some gas about halfway through dessert. Your restaurant does not seem like the type of place that this would be ok. I am thankful that we were about to leave when it started, but this is RIDICULOUS! My money is just as green as his and I deserve to eat without the aromatics that this guy was giving off!"

  • "Recommend reservations - even on weeknights. It is a hopping place many nights, and can be a tad loud, but the food was excellent and our waiter very professional. I took my younger daughter (15) there and though we enjoyed ourselves, I'm not sure it is the best choice for families."

  • "Our particular server was a bit cold but I did see others nearby doing a much better job. Perhaps she was just having a bad day. The food was very good .... Pricey but not outrageous ... My only real complaint was it was sooo crowded and so very loud and a little claustrophobic. But I think you can say that about almost every restaurant in Reston Towncenter. I would go again."

  • "We started out with the Boars meatball and polenta appetizer; the polenta was good, but the meatballs were just OK. My wife got the beet salad, which was excellent and I got the Il forniao house salad that was also excellent. For entries she chose the beef tenderloin with potatoes and spinach; the beef was cooked a perfect medium rare and tasted very good. I ordered the cannelloni stuffed with chicken, spinach and cheese and topped with bechamel sauce. The cannelloni were very good, but the sauce was a little too heavy. If you order the cannelloni, I would recommend substituting a marinara sauce instead. Overall it was very good and the waitstaff was attentive and did not rush us in any way."

  • "Very disappointed in our latest visit to Il Fornaio. Very crowded and very noisy. Did not receive first course until 45 minutes after order. Long delays between courses. My wife's chicken was dry. My son and I ordered same main course; his was dry and seemed to have a different sauce than mine. Waiter (who we have had before) was good given the apparently overburdened kitchen. In fact, he told us restaurant had 300 reservations...most between 7 and 8:30. Clearly, this restaurant cannot handle large number of reservations. We wIll never go on Saturday night again."

  • "First time at Il Fornaio and was quite impressed. The restaurant features a region of Italy each month. I had the tasting menu which is one of the appetizers, pasta dish, and the main course. Everything was excellent. My main course was the sea bass which was cooked perfectly and the portion was very good (i.e. satisfying, not over abundant). My wife had the seafood risotto which was probably one of the best I've ever tasted."

  • "My wife and I decided to have a spur of the moment date night which landed us at Il Fornaio (and I am glad it did). Everything about our experience there was great. Our server was very engaging and had a great personality. Since we have never been to Il Fornaio, we relied on the server for several suggestions for food and drink which turned out to be awesome. We did the taste of the month menu which is a special menu that focuses on a particular region in Italy and contains dishes inspired from the area. For $30, we received three dishes (one from each section on the menu). It was a great way to experience the food and the portions spread out through the three dishes left us feeling very satisfied. We can't wait to go back again!"

  • "Il Fornaio never fails to provide delicious, professionally prepared and served, authentic Italian cuisine. We started with the Carpaccio de Melanazane (grilled,thinly sliced eggplant, with goat cheese, roasted red peppers, and tomato). I followed with the Zuppe di Pesce and my wife had the linguine frutti di mare. Both were served with a tasty, slightly spicy red tomato sauce/broth. The seafood was tender and flavorful. The bread was hearty and delicious. I washed it all down with a lovely dry white wine. We capped of dinner by sharing the trio dessert plate of tiramisu, apple crepe with vanilla ice cream, and chocolate torte. It was sumptuous! We need an Il Forniao IN THE CITY!"

  • "It was cold, we were standing at the front door of the restaurant at 745 on a saturday night and could not get inside - the door was locked, accidentally of course - but we stood there knocking and waving to the people around the front desk for a few moments before someone figured out that the door was locked. The manager and the hostess looked annoyed, and neither of them gave us any eye contact or said a word to us about the fact that we had just been locked out of the restaurant. There was a lot of shuffling and rearranging of menus and still no eye contact. Finally I leaned over the desk and said, "uh hi, we're here for a reservation" the place is loud, stuffy and hot both times I have been there. But Food is good, worth the hassle."

I Iooked at restaurants at Reston Town Center and came up with this Italian restaurant, mainly because I liked the look of the place. All four of us had the fixed prix offering. It was excellent. The portions were small, yet with three courses, an ample amount of food. Stunning place as well. Yes, we will return."

  • "The food is very good here and we love going out to the Town Center. The wine list has some unique and unusual finds, with great descriptions. My only issue is the service--while moderately attentive, it is VERY impersonal, which makes the dining experience not as enjoyable. When we go out it is nice to feel like we are welcome guests at a restaurant--not merely warm bodies providing a tip."

  • "Everything is delicious, and the vibe is such you could be in NYC, energetic, friendly, excellent service. Its Happy Hour is the BEST in Reston Town Center or Tyson's. Menu offerings, not happy hour lower octane options. They also have great cooking classes and fun events for family and adults. It generates a loyal fan base for good reason."

  • "We were a group of 7 and it seemed that the variety of food was wonderful... On the menu. Unfortunately, some of the dishes didn't seem to blend well on the plate. It seemed to just be 3 things on a plate made a dish, not that they really complimented each other. But other dishes were great. Wine list was diverse and a good selection. Our server, Murat, was the best!"

  • "Perfect ambiance and fiesta regionale for a valentines day dinner. They had a live band that night (special event band) that keep low and mellow in the back ground. Food was great--did the three course tasting menu with the wine pairing. My wife and I split the three courses and added one salad, and were more than satisfied. The lamb entrée was amazing!"

  • "The food and service could not have been better on this visit. I ordered the spinach ravioli with sausage and can't stop thinking about it! It was that good and I got to restaurants a lot. Kevin, our server, made the meal even better because he was very helpful, friendly and made it a very enjoyable trip. Have been here a lot and haven't had many problems (aside from over dressed salads) so I am definitely coming back with friends as well as our customers. I may have to do that soon as I just can't stop thinking about that ravioli....."
